========================================= Wow, two weeks gone by already? Sheesh, where is the time going! Anywho, I visited the site of the Haunted Castle today and boy was it looked good. All of the scaffolding was gone, track is all in, and themeing is nearly completely finished. They are still finishing up some electrical and painting on the outside of the structure. When I went last week I snapped a picture of the NEW cars on the track, and I forgot to post them! So the pics of the car will be from LAST WEEK, otherwise, the pictures are from this week. The ride is going to open on May 28th, 2010 - enjoy the update! ~Nicholas Newly painted building next to the HC. Those 'cheese' slabs were blue last year! Scaffolding is gone! Looking really nice. Looking farther down the NEW HC... Another look. This photo is from May 4th, 2010. THE RIDE CAR!!!!!!111 This photo is also from May 4th, 2010. The ice cream stand is on the right, and the games next up in the 'red'. Remember this little building across from the Haunted Castle in past updates? According to the workers, this will be a funnel cake stand - MMMM!! Panoramic view of the ride - nearly finished! Another beach-side angle... Starting to continue painting. The color at the very top is what the rest will look like. Street-side view basically the same... Looks good! From across the street. ====================== NEXT UPDATE: Stay tuned as we approach the opening of the new ride. I am trying to get a behind the scenes tour of the ride before it opens as well as to try to go to the ride on opening day May 28th, 2010. Thanks for watching!

Welcome to today's update! The Haunted Castle is REALLY coming along and will be opening on May 28th, 2010. Most of the interior is being completed and all of the ride track is in. The facade facing the street is nearly done and the front side is looking great too. It looked like they were going to test ride vehicles within the next week or so. I am amazed at how fast this thing is coming along and I commend the workers on this great looking ride. Also, there appears to be a new building on the Boardwalk itself, possibly for food or something. If you haven't checked out the Boardwalk's website recently, you should check out the page they have on the new ride! http://www.beachboardwalk.com/rides/hauntedcastle Enjoy the update! ~Nicholas(coaster-crazy) ADMIN EDIT: I went ahead and deleted your double post because it didn't have any purpose besides bumping the discussion by looking for responses. While we appreciate your updates, remember that responses will come in time--there isn't any need to ask for them specifically. Front side of the castle. Here is where the ride will come out at the end of the ride. Notice the track coming in - (doors are temporary) Looking down the front side. Nice! Closer up on the details. New building on the front of the castle. What do you think will/should go in it? This is where the Black & White ice cream stand will return to on the HC building. Panoramic view. Street side is getting closer to completion. Strange color combination though... Another angle.. Full view of the back of the ride. BONUS PIC! ============== Stay tuned for next week's update and look out for the ride's opening on May 28th, 2010 !!!! Thanks for looking!

^Thanks for the comment! ====================== Welcome to the next update on the Haunted Castle - it's also my 16th birthday today! Anywho, today there seemed to be a lot more progress on the ride. Almost all of the shingles were completed, wood was going up, there was track about, AND themeing has started to show up on the walls inside the ride! It was very exciting. The ride is really moving along very quickly and the Memorial Day weekend opening date might just become a reality. I'm hoping to be there on opening day if I can find out when that will be. Enjoy the update! ~Nicholas Front-side view of the Haunted Castle. It's coming along! More progress... Farther out view of the ride. It sure is HUGE! This is where the ride will come OUT of the basement and back into the station. Notice the themeing on the walls and that animatronic in the corner! Another angle of the ride. Back-side of the new ride. This deck is for the employee lounge which is located directly next to the ride. That railing is new. More curved track has appeared! It's only a matter of time for the cars.... More dark ride trackiness! This was on the track pieces. The company that made the track! Back side of the ride is looking great! ======================== Thanks for checking this update out! Come back next week for another update!

Well will you look at that! It's coaster-crazy actually making an update to his own topic, and with HIS own pictures! AMAZING! ... anywho, yes, I'm actually making an update, and it's sure been a long time. There has been a ton of progress on the ride since the last update I've made as well as the last update off of the Boardwalk's Facebook page. The whole building has been stuckoed and the windows are all in the building. Shingles and wooden panels are also starting to appear on the building. But, the most exciting thing I noticed today was track! Various pieces of sloped and curved track appeared on the back side of the Haunted Castle. I was so excited to see it there. It's only a matter of time before this ride opens up. Enjoy the update, cause who knows how long it will be till I post another one! ~Nicholas (coaster-crazy) Frontal side of the NEW Haunted Castle. Notice the newly put up shingles and stuckoed building. Closer shot of the new shingles. Also notice the windows they put in a couple weeks ago. Looking good! Wide shot of the Haunted Castle. The building to the left of the ride is newly painted. Those cheese looking things were completely blue last year - now they're orange! Closer view of the right side of the Haunted Castle. Stucko fans unite! More Haunted Castleness.. it's really coming along! Okay, now I'm just getting all angular on you. The left opening is where the queue will begin for the Haunted Castle. Mwhahahahah! (had to do it.) Street-side view of the Haunted Castle - not too spooky on this side ... AND I see you dark ride track!!! TRRRAAACCCKKKK!!!! YESSSS! ... it's about time too! Sexy curvy dark ride track. OH YEAH! ========== AND, this concludes this update! I won't promise an update next week since I probably won't do one, so look out for another update soon! The Haunted Castle has a tentative opening date of Memorial Day Weekend 2010!!!!

Ride You Felt Was Unsafe?
coaster-crazy replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This only happened once. I was riding Vortex at California's Great America, which IMO is a very rough stand-up. For those of you who know how Stand-up restraints are, you stand-up, have a shoulder harness, and a seatbelt connected to the bottom of the harness. My harness was lose, and the only thing keeping me from flying out was the seatbelt. I asked the ride op before getting on and he said " Oh, it's fine." It was the scariest ride of my life. Thank god the seatbelts held. I still ride this ride though. -

Amazing update Shane! Lots of great, great pictures and press releases. This must take a lot of work to put up all these pictures for us. Thank you! -
Hey guys, welcome to the next update!! I was at the Boardwalk yesterday and have seen some changes in the exterior of the building. A lot more steel has been put up and parts of the structure have been sealed off. There has also been some progress under ground but the pictures I took were too dark to see. But basically most of the steel has been put underground marking where the walls will be for the track to follow around. They are still aiming for a Memorial Day weekend opening - let's hope they make it! Enjoy the update. ~Nicholas Front left corner of the building with more steel. You can also walk in front of the ride on the NEW boarwalk section! Side-view of the Haunted Castle. Working away on the steel! Closer up on the side.... Looking down the front of the Haunted Castle... where that worker is is where you will enter for the ride. A lot more steel has been put up on the front side. Panorama of ride from beach. I liked how the colors of the Sky Glider were on the top of the picture. Beach side pic from the other side. See how we can walk in front of it now? A street-side view showing a LOT of wood that has sealed most of the back.. and look! A scissor lift! BONUS PIC!!! .. They were blowing the pealing paint off the Sea Swing's platform so they needed to raise the ride. You don't see a swings ride in this position when it's not moving very often!!

@ghost: Thanks! @UberBeavis: You should come back to Santa Cruz this Summer, and thanks! ================================== ================================== Hey guys! I'm back again with another cool update! I just went to the Boardwalk today and I saw some big changes in the exterior of the NEW Haunted Castle. There is a lot of steel that has been put up, for where the walls/windows/doorways will be. It seems to make the ride building feel much bigger to me. According to a construction worker there, they have begun putting up the walls on the basement level of the ride. I also have included 2 pictures of the 2010 park map that advertise for the NEW Haunted Castle. I was just there on Sunday with some friends and it was great fun. Anywho, thanks for looking and if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, let me know! Enjoy! ~Nicholas This is where you will enter the queue for the ride. Nice shiny steel eh? Looking farther down at the Haunted Castle's new steel. Looking good. Standing on the beach looking at the new ride. The stairs to the left are brand new. Also, we are now let much closer up to the Boardwalk then before. A view of the left side of the ride's construction. A beach-side panoramic view of construction. Meanwhile, they were also working on pulling new cables through the tower. Apparently, they really needed replacing. Street-side view of the construction. Looks like they haven't quite finished up with the steel on the 2nd floor. Front-side of the 2010 Boardwalk map with an advertisement for the new ride! Inside the 2010 map you can find another little blurb about the ride including a logo. I'm not sure if this is the final logo, however. =========== Update next Tuesday! Stay tuned.

^Thanks for the comment! =============== MINI UPDATE FEBRUARY 8, 2010 =============== Hey guys, I'm back with another update - but it's a mini update actually! There will be a big update tomorrow with new pictures of construction. So look forward to that! Below is a video showing some concept art of the ride itself, as well as some of the exterior of the building. Also below is a picture of something I got from the ride 'building' during the demolition. Enjoy, and look forward to the real update tomorrow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REWxhFawbz4 (video courtesy of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk) Here is part of a sign I own from the Ice Cream stand originally part of the Haunted Castle's building. The stand has been there for over 30 years. Here is a view of the REAL stand before demolition. I have one of those piece.(I'm guessing one of the end's since the paint is cutoff on mine) Another view of the Ice Cream stand/Haunted Castle. (on right) ==== Next update will be tomorrow! Look forward to that! =======
