  1. Heading to the mountain tomorrow morning for some rides and then FF at night. What’s the scoop on the crowds? Our hope is both the weekday and heat would keep the people out til night time. Hope for a nice smooth ride on apocalypse QQ: we have gold passes, what is the cost for the express maze pass? I saw a $32 price from a 3rd party website but not sure how reliable that is. Also, are there In/out privileges at night?
  2. Checked out haunt last night (Sunday). The skeleton key rooms were awesome. All 5 are brand new this year and extremely interactive. The 2 new mazes were also great. Chaos house is all about visuals. Lots of psychedelic-like experiences with strobe lights, crazy painted walls and best of all a room that appears to have a foggy film-like waist high surface that makes the scares surprising. Backwoods, which is planted on a stilted platform inside the old Pictorium, was also great. Less scares but incredible attention to detail on everything from the backwoods lodge bedrooms to the swampy walkways connecting everything. Definitely inspired by Voodoo at Knotts. The bad! Demon reignited? WTF. So much potential to make the ride experience great again by lighting up the tunnels. Instead of taking the time to do it right they just added a few different colored strobes in the two tunnels and the music was too quiet to hear anything. No fog. The waterfall in the corkscrew was a good touch and even splashed a little on our train. Maybe it's just a matter of a pretty quiet night at the park being the first Sunday, but on our backwoods walk-through two yellow jacket wearing park security guards were right behind us the majority of the time ruining the experience- from the moment we went in. We're minding our own business being respectful all night, WTF? Pissed us off badly. We're platinum pass holders with the season fast lane add-on, purchased the fast lane plus skeleton key on the least busy night of the weekend and this happens. I asked the guys if there was an issue and if we could please have some space and still they're right on our ass. Should have made the Demon like it's Gurnee counterpart below, instead did some quick and easy strobe lights
  3. Ha! Good question. We are thinking about taking the shuttle to Disney one of the days, maybe Wednesday, because it seems like a slow time of year + the montezuma and xcellerator ride closures. Maybe do that and suck it up and get the fast lane at Knott's Thursdays if the holiday thing is an issue. Back on topic- gonna be at sfmm the following Friday 29th and hope for a marathon kinda day! Would be great if apocalypse opened
  4. SFMM operates within the schedule for Los Angeles Unified School District and the 21st is Rosh Hashanah a Jewish holiday or remembrance time. Has something to do with getting head for a year per Wikipedia. Etymology: "Rosh" is the Hebrew word for "head", "ha" is the definite article ("the"), and "shanah" means year. Thus "Rosh HaShanah" means 'head [of] the year', referring to the Jewish day of new year. Just come on Wednesday if you can as even though they are open 2 hours less than Thursday you will have a freestyle of the park and will be able to get multi rides on most. While it might be doable to get on most attractions once on Thursday it will be more crowded. Uh oh! Planned a trip to Knott's this Wednesday morning to Friday night to get some rides and first night of scary farm... this hashanah traffic gonna be over there too???
  5. Who's the guy on here that kept trolling this and the Knott's thread about that rare intamin surf rider? Quiet now. Either way, that negative energy went to way better things. Announcements period are $. We are fortunate.
  6. happy to report, and this might be old news, that with fast lane they're now letting you in at the first gate in ghostrider. forEVER it was that earlier one right off the stairs. now it's about a 3-5 min wait vs. 20ish. not happy to report the grouper at xcelerator (on friday) was not killing it. WTF is 30 minutes with fast lane? rest of park was magical
  7. Now that the construction walls are up and both Knott's & CGA is anyone good enough with google maps to do a topographic comparison to see which park is working with more real estate?
  8. You know queef, I heard that 280 designer story once too so I took a look at the 280 wiki page again. There's a ton of 'SR 1' references: "In the 1964 renumbering, the Route 280 designation was officially applied to the planned route. This replaced SR 1 in San Francisco; the new SR 1 alignment turned northeast where I-280 now runs, quickly ending at State Route 82 (San Jose Avenue/Alemany Boulevard). SR 1, however, continued to be signed along its former (and current) alignment, which had not been upgraded to freeway standards. A realignment approved January 1968 took I-280 onto its current route. This ran along what had been SR 1, SR 82, State Route 87 and I-480 (downgraded to a State Route then), ending at Interstate 80 at the west end of the Bay Bridge.[1] This change was made on the state level in 1968, restoring SR 1 to its current alignment and truncating SR 82, SR 87 and SR 480.[2]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_280_(California)
  9. Anybody making it out to this today or know where it's at?
  10. Hey there! I'm hitting Carowids up for the first time this Monday, I come in peace from californias great America Question: weather forecast says there will be thunderstorms, what is the park policy for this? We plan on doing the whole day as it's the only day we are able to go. Does the park close and reopen when a weather event like that happens?
  11. how does it work if it's a group of 3 or 4 and only 2 have gold passes? Do they let the other people slide and go in too?
  12. hand it to the bell desk at the hotel next door
  13. how was it? we went last night. seemed pretty packed! might be because it's only part of the park that's open for the event. gold striker was running 2 trains and flight deck only one . hope the success of this years event encourages them to blow the event wide open next year, or reinvest a little into that hyper it was kinda cool to see the endeavor lake drained and the skeleton key houses flipped into christmas themes. they gotta deck out the bridge near mass effect's ceiling with lights like the one near the kids zone/wax museum. also cool to finally be able to walk under the old tidal wave supports on that service road. it's time to throw some rides in all of that unused real estate like sfgam has!!!
  14. Happy friday! A couple of friends and I will be heading down to the sfm mountain Saturday to get a full day in on Sunday QQ I purchased the cheap Labor Day flash sale for the SFDK got gold/ free parking. My two nimrod friends bought regular tickets. will they be ableto hang with me and get in early? *lI also have the discover option too. Does one like me get you in faster than another? What are the rides that are closed in the D.C. Land? Cheers!
  15. I hope that is true, but I find that very hard to believe. It wasn't a maze...it was a VR experience. It would be quite the undertaking to re-shoot it, post production, re-programming the FX to match, etc. It ain't happening this year. There's also a maze at cga called 'insanitarium' that they took off the website and evidently kept, but are now reworking and renaming cause of these assholehats
  16. its an election year and this group is trying to get press. F em. But they f'd us
  17. Just sucks that they're doing the PC thing. An ideal situation for the business & both parties would include a clever and quick makeover for the tainted attractions. These things take brain power and resources to create so in a short haloween season that's a challenging task. CF is in the business of making money so likely they're trying to do some kind of alternative at Knott's. Crap thing is that CGA is like a red headed step child when it comes to these things. Solution? Move/Go where the haunts are better?
  18. Isn't all this crap covered under the freedom of speech and expression?
  19. Going to Knotts tomorrow and will try their Fear 5150 and then give CGA's a shot when I get back on Sunday. Hope they're both killer. Saw this inside the old mirror mirror building over the weekend
  20. No, but I would expect both to still be down then. I doubt either will be up before the beginning of Scary Farm. crossing fingers, it is the first weekend of haunt so we have that going for us
  21. The park told us directly yesterday that Ghostrider is going down for maintenance beginning today. They said that Xcelerator is also going down at the same time for cable replacement. They elaborated by saying that to expect Ghostrider to still undergo roughly the same maintenance schedule from now on, though at least for now it's not for retracking. It's more for hardware adjustments due to natural changes in the new wood. One trivia tidbit I found particularly interesting is that they said that the refurb was 3 years in the making and that one inspiration for part of the reprofiling (particularly taking out the mcbr) was Gold Striker at CGA. They said they liked how it ran full out from start to finish and never slowed down, and I think they did a great job achieving that same experience with the refurb. And yes that means GhostRider is definitely back. I got 10 laps in yesterday but could have done twice that if there were enough time. There is no more discomfort in this ride, it's simply fantastic. You get more air in the front, but the back row is nice too as I feel like I get more lateral G's as you get whipped around the corners. In this condition it's the best traditional woodie on the west coast. It's also my new favorite overall night ride. That new lighting package is perfect. Knott's and GCI hit it out of the park with this project. Completely blew away my expectations of just how much better they could make the ride, but at the same time I'm not surprised as that's the kind of people that run Knott's. Heading to the park next Friday, did they say when Ghostrider and Xcellerator are back up? Hoping to get some dead park time when it opens Friday morning
