To be honest I could have a horrible day and as long as I get a couple rides in, maybe get my 7 year old brave enough to try a big coaster I will be over the moon. It has been since January 2020, a baby, and a pandemic since the last time I have had a good coaster ride in. Had 2 quick rides on the Zippin Pippin since it is local to me but MAN I got the itch. Gonna be good to get a proper trip in. -

We are planning a trip for the last week in march. My wife came across trip advisor reviews from opening weekend about parking and food being an absolute disaster. I am willing to give them opening week staffing issues a pass this. Wondering if anyone has heard of some of the opening day issues have been resolved. It would still be considered spring break when we go. -
The first drop and first overback make it look a lot like if millenium force was 120 feet shorter... Love it!. It will be really interesting to see the Minimalist approach to wood supports. All i can say is RMC is on a completely different level than what anyone is doing out there in the coaster world. Wood or steel.

Best Gravity Group Woodie
uwgbdork replied to djboss302's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to give my love to the zippin pippin simply because I can make it out to ride twice while on a lunch hour! The only other I have been on is Hades 360 (2nd day open) and at the time had some very good rides on it. It was sad to me to hear that it could not even last till the summer before getting unbearably rough. The zippin pippin however is still butter, only costs 1$ to ride, and has a killer ejector airtime moment just before the final brakerun. Dollar for dollar in cost per ride nothing can touch the zippin pippin! -
I saw a launch of one of the shuttles back when i was on the Disney College Program. (wow that was 9 years ago now!!!) i was pretty far away and the sound and feeling was unlike anything i have ever experienced yet to this day! I would love to get back down there for another launch and tour the center!

so..... who had 2013 in the office pool? -
For 165 foot tall wooden coaster you are talking a Massive structure and footprint. I think if this will in fact be what's going in you could expect a Texas Giant Style/Mean Streak style footprint with it overtaking Camp Cartoon Network and possibly as far as the wilderness theater. Eagle is only 127 feet tall.... The structure and footprint are nearly an entire side of the park. Granted i do get that there are 32 years of engineering that have improved since that time but still will be Massive.

Something to note.... If it is a premier launch coaster it will be different than YOLO... That is definitely a built into the terrain and with the area that it is probably going there is a lot of room to work with. It is right on the Park Border, support buildings and picknic areas could be changed, and Camp Cartoon network is always a dead zone. Just thoughts.

After going on memorial day i think we would see train replacements needed on Cyclops and Zuess long before you will see them add a second train to Hades. What I would really expect to see is the Old PTC's from Hades moved over to Cyclops or Zuess. I could see them still on site down near the maintenance area down by the waterpark area. Wish i would have thought to grab the camera on our way back thru from the indoor waterpark. Also If anyone hasn't checked out my trip report here is link! #shamelessplug

Hades 360 Photo Trip Report
uwgbdork replied to uwgbdork's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The more I think about it the more i am leaning towards Hades in the side by side. They were both really close and both did things that you would not expect. Outlaw run was full of twisty goodness, and the moments of 90 degree sideways air time were completely unique. But what is really selling me on Hades 360 is the Overall experience. I love the fact that there is the long section before hitting the lift hill, and was just blown away by the loop. Running the entire tunnel in pitch black to the first thing you see out of the tunnel as you emerge is that loop? So awesome. But before casting my final judgement gonna wait a few days and let the initial high wear off. My wife on the other hand gave the edge to Hades instantly after our first circuit... but then again she has did rank Mean Streak on her list ungodly high.... -

Definatly more sore from the stairs and hills than from the rides, but any aches and pains today would have been from Zues and Cyclops, not Hades -
Hades 360 Photo Trip Report
uwgbdork replied to uwgbdork's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I did say it was rough, It was more in the "I just rode a woodie" rough It was very re-ridable, you are not gonna get off feeling like you got hit by freight train. Running thru the tunnel it Roars. To be honest the only part I felt that it could stand for some retrackwork yet was the Main drop into the tunnel. But over all the Timberliners do a great job of absorbing a good part of the chatter. -

Haha it might have been!! Was a good time either way! Won't Claim I was the only TPR lurking around the new Hawtness! -
Comparing Hades 360 to The Voyage, why is a ride only allowed one key maneuver? The overbanked turn rides so beautifully and does nothing to overshadow the 90 degree turn, it adds to the overall experience of the ride. The overbanked turn is actually my favorite part of the new addition. It was such an incredible way of changing directions when at high speed. It doesn't simply point you to the ground and turn; the ride starts at an upward angle, begins the turn, and the rotation happens about a fixed point with an invisible line being drawn about the riders spines to that fixed point for the entire maneuver. It's so beautiful I can't even comprehend what this will do for roller coasters of the future. Think of any huge B&M with a hammerhead turn where the riders bank towards the ground versus the air. This is the real beauty of Gravity Group's design. CORRECTION: I just remembered Leviathan as well as Diamondback does in fact have a downward facing hammerhead turn. I do agree with you on most of the rest of what you said; Zeus needs an overhaul and so does Cyclops. The old Hades train is nowhere to be found and the Zeus backseat was out of commission today. The first drop on Pegasus was rebuilt, however. The old trains are sitting behind the long "building of retail" Could see them today in the little gap between that and the "indoor theme park" section

With the holiday weekend approaching, my wife and I were planning to take a trip down to Great America in Gurnee but with Friday's announcement that Hades 360 was up and running our plans were easily changed! So we packed up the cooler and headed the 2 and a half hours down to the Dells. It had been a few years since I had been down to the park and the other times I had been to the city we opted to go to Noah's Ark or some of the other water resorts so Mt. Olympus had been kind of an elusive park well within my reach. I walked off of Hades 360 incredibly impressed! There were just so many good things about the ride. Unfortunately I was not able to compare to it's original form, but the new track work and new trains are just awesome. My job now is to mull it over and i still have not been able to make the call of which I liked better between Hades 360 and Outlaw Run which we were able to hit up on our anniversary vacation earlier this month. So far it is Memorial Day 2013 and already has been an AWESOME coaster season! I will definatly say this for those that have never visited Mt. Olympus before, it is not your corporate park. We got in line right at park open to see the first (and pretty sure only) test of the ride with a full train of ride ops. It seemed like they recruited every worker in a 500 yard radius to jump on and give er a whirl before letting the public on. We get into the station to see some building supplies still laying around the station. My wife put it best. "other parks use water dummies....they use people here! They would only send a train today with EVERY seat filled. In fact before our first ride of the day we needed to wait till one of the many teenagers waiting for the second ride of the day would jump in the 1 empty seat. The ride itself is pretty rough in parts yet especially in the first drop but the new Timberliner's just haul ass thru the course and were very comfortable! You could still feel a lot of chattering in some of the old track sections but all the padding in the seats are pretty good at absorbing the bumps. The Loop is really cool visually and if you have your hands up you can't help but wonder if there is enough clearance. Gonna have a hard time putting my Mitch Hawker wood poll together this year. Yay for 2 looping woodies! (note.... My wife is firmly on Hades 360 winning over Outlaw Run) Just arrived at the Park on a wonderful 55 degree morning...... Yeah it never warmed up The new turnaround (aka NEW HAWTNESS) As you can see the announcement that it was open gave the impression it was rushed open for this weekend, but you won't see me complaining! Looks like a winner! Note....no empty seats. yes this was by direct order from management and it was not because of crowds..... There was no crowd. My lovely wife is slowly converted into a coaster nut!! When we met she never had been on one.... Now she loves em! Doing my public service as seat filler! Glad to be of service. I can only wish others would do the same. It takes sacrifice! Motion Shot! as you can see it was hauling ass past the station! New wood! "we'll worry about cleaning up later, lets get this B open!" Obligatory "stand in front of the entrance shot" Yes the Outlaw run sweatshirt was planned! Want your own? all parts available at your Local Home Depot, not gonna lie, forgot just HOW CLOSE the paths are to the rides.... shouldn't there be a fence or something? Love the new Timberliners! Ride in style, is more of a modern look compared to the Millennium Flyers but are stylish for sure! Does it qualify as a parking lot coaster if it goes under it? 360 DEGREE'S NERD SHOT of the new track leading into the loop! just soooo fun, thought the arms were gonna hit but didn't keep me from keeping em up! The color of the trains just POP Gotta give some love to the overbank too, didn't wait for the train, my wife was waiting in the car and didn't want to wait for another cycle. Thanks For Reading!! Now I have some thinking to do... good thing the Mitch Hawker Pole is not till winter!!!!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
uwgbdork replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Has anyone possibly thought this completely through.....Maybe Cedar Fair is thinking about creating a highly marketable product that will excite everyone instead of just catering only to enthusiasts. I just want to put this out there for perspective. When cedar point has built a new ride they have always tried to build the latest and best version of the current and new style. Magnum was the first to go over 200 feet, SFGam Built Batman in 1992, the cedar point commissioned an improved version of it next building Raptor. Mantis was the biggest Stand-Up for its time, Millennium force was the first to go over 300 and of course TTD was the first over 400, but again was the next evolution of a new style. I think the Haters out there forget that the coaster enthusiast is only a small portion of who they market to and this is a great way to add to the park (in an area of the park that really needed some revitalization) in a way that only adds variety as well as marketability to the park. I think they will only have success with this! One more thing, can you think of any better way to put an exclamation point on the front of the park? -

Begin plans to make the 500 miles trek again.... Went last year and thought the front of the park needed some lovin' I think this is just what the doctor ordered! Also I think this will be and awesome way to show what this place is really about right as you are walking in the gate! Also gives plenty of excuse to create a new signature look to the front gates. Will really class the place up and get the GP excited to run in! I know i will be acting like a child when I go back! As for the wing rider concept. Rode X-flight this spring and was quite impressed. The trains really did give a different dynamic to the ride and the fly-through was not only stunning to watch off the ride, is quite the effective foot/headchopper. Looking forward to seeing what the double keyhole is like. My only complaint would have to be the color scheme, the blue is kinda meh... would have liked to see something a little bolder. But that is minimal. -
I just want to give great thanks to all of those who have donated so far!! I was so surprised when I clicked on the website at work this morning to find all those who have donated to me already! I feel that we as a coaster community are so tight knit even though soooo many of us have never met face to face. I can't wait and am proud to represent TPR at Valleyfair this June!!! I will be doing an introductory of myself later this week. Again just a big thanks to all! And to all who have donated Items to sweeten the donations!
