  1. Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I don't know for sure why it happened. Maybe Oreo sensed that Joni was sick or something. I guess maybe we just missed something with Joni. I know from past experience with rodents that sometimes if a mother has given birth and it senses that one of the babies is sick, the mom will reject the one that is sick to concentrate on caring for the ones that are healthy. And sometimes, after a female animal gives birth, she just shows no interest in nursing the babies. There are stories about bigger animals that do the same on television sometimes. We've had to bottle raise puppies in the past when the mom wouldn't. Oreo's litter was actually larger than normal and she's a first time mom, so things like this just happen I guess. Both Socks and Ringo are growing quickly, and Oreo is doing a fine job with them, so we're very thankful for that.
  2. I'm very sad to report that we've lost little Joni. She was only with us for 5 days but she was a beautiful little creature and she'll always be in our hearts.
  3. I'd like to ask everyone to keep our little female guinea pig, Joni, in their thoughts. Her mom has started rejecting her, so we've started her on milk replacement formula. We'll be feeding her by syringe every 3 to 4 hours for the next several days. I'll post updates about her everyday or so for a few days and I'll post more pics of all the babies in a couple of days.
  4. Here's a couple of pics of our newest rescue/adoption. Her name is Goober. Goober peeking out of her log house. This is Goober. Somebody brought to the pet shop because they didn't want her so we took her home.
  5. I've been playing around a little with Super Mario DS (the only game we have for the DS so far). I've started The Bard's Tale on PS2 but Haven't palyed it much lately.
  6. ^Cool! I'd be happy to give you any insight that I can and my daughters will help me with what I don't know, because they've researched even more than I have. Having a PigTums on here would be AWESOME!!
  7. I also think that he should be given over to the Kurds. I think that his punishment should be left to those that he unjustly persecuted the most.
  8. ^Cool, I love chinchillas. I'd eventually like to get a couple. I"m also hoping to eventually get sugar gliders and a couple of ferrets. We're hoping to breed Princess next year if we're able to buy a house. I definently keep posting pics of the baby guinea pigs progress for as long as Robb and Elissa will let me!
  9. No, they haven't been to the vet yet. They're all extremely healthy and active so we don't feel a huge rush to take them. They get the best food and vitamins and we use the Carefresh Ultra bedding (the best available at our local pet shop) and it's completely changed at least once a week. Yeah, we knew Oreo was pregnant. Actually, we thought she had gotten pregnant before she actually did. Their gestation is around 65 days and it was close to 80 day from the time we thought she got pregnant til she had the babies, so obviously we were wrong about the actual date of conception. It was really cool for the last month or so of her pregnancy because we could really feel the babies moving around in her tummy. Coco and Oreo have been doing exceptionally well with the babies. Coco is very protective of them. The only thing he does that I'm not real happy about is that he kind of runs over them when he's playing in the cage, but they've never squealed like they were hurt or anything, so I don't think it hurts them at all. Oreo has been a very attentive mom. She feeds them numerous times throughout the day and stays close to them unless she's eating. She's fairly young and this is her first litter, so we're very happy with the way she's adapting to motherhood. I really wish that the 4th baby had survived because it was the only one that had it's mom's coloring. To be honest, until we got Sugar (our older female that was a rescue) I was never a fan of guinea pigs, but she really won me over and her cage is right next to my chair, so we've really bonded and we talk to each other all the time. If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them as best I can, so please ask away. We are keeping all 3 of them (so we'll have to invest in a new cage in the near future). We will most likely breed them again and if it's successful, we plan to sell the babies through our local pet shop, but, I suspect we'll fall in love with them, and that'll make it very hard to sell them. Well, you're right about Ringo (him and the fact that he has a white ring around his neck). Joni is actually named after a lady that my wife works with whose birthday was the same day as the babies were born. Socks, well, that's because he's mostly brown but has little white patches around a couple of his feet, hence Socks. I haven't seen ours do that yet, but that would be really cute if they did. Our American Eskimo, Princess, just adores the parents and the babies. She thinks she's everybody's momma, and she's been so excited to see the babies. We have a playpen for the parents and from day one, every time we put the parents in the playpen, Princess will walk around the outside of the playpen, just following them around and nuzzling them and they nuzzle her right back. It's really kind of amazing.
  10. Happy Birthday Corkscrew Mad and Voovegas!
  11. Here's an individual pic of each baby as well as mom and dad. Enjoy! Socks - 2 Days Old Ringo - 2 Days Old Joni - 2 Days Old Oreo the Shy Mommy Cocoa the Proud Daddy
  12. Happy Birthday cadillacranch, GoldRusheROCKS, Gregory DG, laserranger1064nm and Rachael127!
  13. Nah, they're in a different freezer in a different part of the house, no food goes in there. And for you tngdiablo, here's a pic of our gerbil Digger.
  14. ^I know this will probably sound really weird to some people, but we're renting a house right now and we've had a couple of our small animal family members pass away and we've wrapped them up very carefully and we have them stored in a freezer (and no there's no food in the freezer) for the time being. We are planning on buying a house next year and we are going to designate part of the back yard as a Memorial Park for our friends that have passed and bury them there. We decided against burying them where we live now, because we don't want the graves disrupted by someone else who would move in here after us.
  15. Happy Birthday diggerg56 and Francois!
  16. Awwww, they're really cute! We used to have a male that looked a lot like Schmitty and the babies mother had the same colors also, but she's an Abyssinian.
  17. ^Yeah, I know, they're something of a family favorite meal in parts of Peru. What can I say, one man's beautiful baby is another man's dinner. I'm sure those who consider cows sacred are absolutely appalled at what is a normal meal for most of us on this board.
  18. I redid the pics Craig, hopefully you'll be able to see the little darlin's now.
  19. They are precious little creatures! I'll post new pics every couple of days so that everyone can watch them grow up.
  20. One of our Guinea Pigs had her babies between 3 and 6:45 this morning. They are so fantastically cute that I can't help sharing a few pics of the new arrivals! I hope you like them!
  21. I'm definently planning on buying it in a few months (have to take care of some other obligations first). I'm also planning on buying the original since we're getting a GC for Christmas. I've only seen videos of the 2 games, but I think I'm going to love them both!!
  22. Happy Birthday 65skylark and X250!
  23. Happy Birthday DerangedChild and Outatime!
  24. I voted for #3. I just really like the secluded look of it.
  25. I've been using Firefox for several months now and I haven't had any trouble viewing anything on TPR.
