  1. I always wanted to work at magic mountain cause I live 3 miles away, but never found an excuse to apply. Maybe if things go bad this summer, I can use the extra money.
  2. My season pass came with a coupon for entrance to the x2 flashpass line. They're numbered and you need to show your pass to use it. Still, it was a nice bonus even though I didn't get a season pass sports bottle. The park is looking okay, but I still say it's 1% of what it was in the late 70's. The park was amazing and now it's just kinda nice. More coasters though. I guess you trade beauty for track.
  3. shouldn't the music be more in line with their new volcano theme? Isn't that what they settled on.
  4. I was always afraid of upside down coasters because of what I thought it would feel like, I missed dozens of coasters over the years and would only ride woodies, (colossus rocks) but then I got talked into batman because it only had one loop so I stood in the queue line and realized it had two but by then I was kinda committed so I figured if I didn't think about it I would survive, even if I didn't like it I wouldn't have to ride more. Well I got off and I was a little light headed cause batman is a smaller loop and tighter but It wasn't like I feared, instead of 'hanging' I found it you feel pushed into the seat, so it's actually opposite of what I thought and was a lot of fun. Just don't think about it looping, just think of ice cream or the girl/guy in front of you that's cute, and sit in an inside seat your first time and you'll have fun. Strangely enough, start with scream, it's the most fun without being painful at all. If it's too frightening get batman, but the loops are tighter and smaller so it'll make you a bit dizzier for a minute or two, just remember at the top of the lift hill take some deep breeaths because if I don't I get a headache, just concentrate on breathing and you'll be better than fine, you'll be a coaster rider.
  5. There is a problem with the 'top of the hill' is that it's not easy to get to. You take orient or you walk the hill. All that's there is superman, sky tower and ninja, the pizza place that was a steakhouse and stairs to tatsu (for which the entrance is in mining town instead of samurai summit which is cross theming in my opinion) So you have the empty eagle's flight building with only a bathroom and superman store there. The formerly high class pizza joint, the magic pagoda/willoughby mansion with the snack bar above it and the japanese garden is gone, any real reason to go or stay up there? not really, ride the two coasters and get out. It'll take a ton of work or a transportation ride to get people up there, dragon's gone, eagle's flight gone, metro gone, it's isolated and that's sad. Big waste of space now, could have been made beautiful but like the fountain's waterfall went dry, the gardens were torn out and it's forsaken. That will probably be outside even their 5 year plan since it's not an obvious moneymaker.
  6. Wow, laughing dragon, i've been to the park countless times and that's one of the places I've never been inside. I've seen it open, but never went in. It's just the regular pizza nowadays right like at waterfront but it's indoors and probably air conditioned?
  7. Sorry about the photo crack, I guess I should have phrased it "although I don't use the photo booths, there are the following....." ... " but batman and superman are the only ones closed so I disagree that it's an issue the park needs to work on". I'm sorry I made it personal, truce? You are right, ever since the donut post things have gottten kinda complainey and we're all guilty of it, I guess since we think they're finaly listening we want our 2c in. Sorry to everyone for being a pain.
  8. Wow, other photo huts. They have x, viper, tatsu, scream, the kiddie one, goliath, the antique photo place and the main gate one and the one in the back, oh and jet stream. The only removed ones are batman and superman. Do you really need that many pictures? Maybe they could hide the fact that they are removed a little better but most people have digital cameras now. Although their photo card thing is neat to just hand the one you get at the main gate to the ride photo place and buy them from home might be nice for kids who go without parents. Never thought that much about the kodak people, just try to avoid them at the main gate but I feel bad for the workers who probably get paid more for more pictures. Oh well.
  9. Yeah, colossus is the centerpiece of the park. It's the first thing people marvel at when they get out of their car, and to see it so shabby and unpainted is just embarrassing. But again, from the corporate level it's all about what will have greatest ROI, not what will improve their image on the ground.
  10. Like alan greenspan would say, i'm cautiously optimistic. There is so much to work on and so much going for the park anyway, it's hard to not be excited and at the same time fearful that it'll turn into another premiere parks debacle. I have faith because this new guy seems to really want to get it working, although turning around an aircraft carrier of a park takes some planning and time. It's all there though, they just are REALLY tight lipped about it. The employees i've asked told me there are secret plans that while aren't massive they promise they're doing something about X. And nobody ever told me 3 trains, my impression was 2 and the third would come later, but maybe. It would be a treat. Just to fix the broken lift lights would show some pizazz. In the next 5 years what are the chances of new Rev trains? They beat my head so much with the OTSR and it could be much better designed. There's gotta be a marketing angle they can use. Plus the 2009 coaster better be something special or unique. Another "parking lot express" lovely as scream is or another damned wild mouse/tony hawk/timberline twister like everyone and their mom puts in and everyone forgets about will piss me off to no end. Please whoever's designing it kick our asses with something my 8 year old sister will just barely agree to ride and then love it, while still making it worth my and my brother's time. It's a tall order but dammit this is MAGIC MOUNTAIN, and it needs to be the coaster capital again.
  11. Hee hee, riddler spend it stuck on the lift hill. It's still there yesterday. Whee! Park is lots of fun again. It's looking pretty cleaned up with new plants and stuff. I think they need to work on major things now. Valencia falls will look nice again I hope. Doing something with the Spillikin Ghetto area would be nice too, even just replacing the bay theming that's rotting away would show some care. Gotham looks great though, I mean for a burned out warehouse district theme that is, at least it's freshly painted burned out warehouse theme. Although now that it's summer I think they'll just sit on those things until september. And why is TATSU misbehaving! It's down for so long lately.
  12. Sorry for the misquote, corrected the error. Apologies, but I stand by my point without misquoting you. I think i'll wait to see if it's improvement in the staff or just paint with the same old trying but tired staff. Can somebody bring me back magic in a themepark? I dare you.
  13. I've been told so many conflicting stories about Superman. It can't double launch because it draws too much electricity and blows breakers, can't do it because weird dynamics in the tower cause mechanical problems, people throw stuff between the cars so it's a liablity, blah blah blah. They never race colossus either and it could too. I think it's also staffing because neither of those are popular enough to warrant two op crews, mixed with various mechanical operation reasons (wanting to keep it open 100% means 50% up and running each 50% of the time. I saw the internationals there today. They're usually hardworking, but cause lots of stress to the local employees so I noticed a lot of confused faces and tired faces. Not too many supervisors in suits out there, probably understaffed like when my brother worked there. He quit because of it. No wonder they don't have many supervisors. Lots of people today though, enjoyed my rides as usual, but I wonder how they treat employees these days or is all the 'new six flags' money going into P.R. and maintenance? Rob complained about someone* hating the shirts, don't they get any input or was it forced on them last minute like they always used to surprise them with big changes? *edited with apologies.
  14. Hmm, dead thread? never got some answers? could you hide them in the wrong color or something? Also what do you mean sky tower was for playboy chicago? it was built at the park. The tower museum has pictures of it under construction. And what olympic training was done at rapids? Answers: Transportation rides: Funicular?/Orient Express, Dragon, Sky Tower, Metro(monorail), grand centennial train, eagle's flight both sides, plus misc little kids rides. The dolphin show was where batman was right? and the mystic lake was up front replaced by hurricane harbor? I think that's right. Did el bumpo get replaced by the dolphin show or were they there at the same time? El bumpo was in that water behind "waterfront", the gazebo is still there. Did somebody say those are the same boats as the ones over at Mountasia or are they lying to me? It was Atom Smasher, after Subway after Himalaya. What were all the stores in spillikin bay? I know glass blower, candy, candleshop, I'm not sure if the sign guy was there back then. Anyone have a good map from then? Plus where exactly was the nightclub, what places served alcohol, and Before mooseburger lodge was Timbermill, and before that was Das Alpenhaus. Can anyone help me with some of these?
  15. I rescind my vote for EL Loco and now vote for the EAGLE'S FLIGHT canoe. Okay tired and rambling deleted, sorry.
  16. Since they've obviously already chosen and don't care what I think, I WISH IT WAS AN EL LOCO, that's such a neat idea, it would be a perfect replacement for Flashback, although maybe where spinout was not near HH, since that should be a deluge in that space, a lift hill water slide? That's my vote. A pony express clone would be idiotic. My 10 year old sister wants to ride X and goliath, not gold rusher. I mean, who are they selling to, the market that's driving KNOTTS down the tubes? Seriously. Anyway, just being bitter, they know i'll come and ride anything so bring it on! They shouldn't have mentioned it now X2 will get swept under the rug, without any more theming what's going to draw people to it? How many people were there today, lots, but the parking lot didn't cross into overflow. Wonder how the summer will go? Goldrusher^2 in 2009!! It's gold rushyier!
  17. ^I've only seen it next to tatsu at soda shack, sometimes it's at surfside grill when it's open, but I can't think of anywhere else. Maybe in bunny world somewhere?
  18. I'm in the minority here, I thought it was a nice gesture to locals and long time fans, it wasn't really an advetised policy more of a in the know thing. But nobody is into nice gestures in companies anymore. Does anyone think it'll make that big a difference? I never see last years bottles. Isn't it just to cut ties with the past/make a small number of people really angry when they go for their drink? I guess I'll take the museum as an apology, Can't wait for it to open.
  19. This wasn't really a 'six flags' thing, more a magic mountain one, an employee suggested it, there's a video on the daily news website.
  20. I hope it's well protected, that stuff is one of a kind. Is the only reason the lower level is closed, because people can throw stuff out the gratings, or is it staffing?
  21. It was fine for kids, which is the audience they're going for for newton. Now for CSI I have to say the first thing that I thought was "a clue a clue" so I guess I wasn't alone. Apparently it has taped info but I really can't imagine how you take an adult drama about frankly disgusting things and turn it into family friendly fare without it being patently ridiculous. I don't want to be negative, they always do a fair job, but you're not competing with podunk middle of nowhere, were IN LA, it should have better production values than the local Canyon Theater Guild and that would take a bit of work and money. Maybe corporate level involvement will help but I'm really on the fence here, guess i'll have to wait and give them a chance before I go off and review it prematurely?
  22. Yep, magic mountain is pretty much boxed in, The road path is i'm sure decided, but they'll never tell us until it's built. And 'those rich people' who built magic are NOT the same. LNR or Lennar, a french development company bought out Newhall Land and Farm and are building probably onto the master plan but with a much more careless profit motive than the family had (though probably not much, they just have the capital to finally build it all). And they'll build things up to the park, and six flags has no interest in purchasing more land from them. I was told they were offered some a few years back. The new company is very cash poor, and more careful with their credit. The connecting to 126 is my assumption since it'll probably go along the south side of that filmore valley area, but that's up to the county and the developers. But houses will come with noise complaints and that's just going to suck but will absolutely be. All paths are good, Sharktums suggested path is good, but there are delays in all directions so just enjoy the excitement before the park, and ride some rides later. Enjoy.
  23. Old road is torn up, there is one lane each north and south, and the 5 offramp coming from the south going north is rerouted at a sharp 90 degree angle behind the denny's, but still has a high throughput because then you make 2 lefts and you don't have to wait in the northbound old road (single) lane that takes forever. Stick to the freeway but be careful, valencia is not going to save you any time unless you drive around by the mall down McBean. (Not for out of towners, you'll get lost maybe). It's because they're turning the acreage in front of magic mountain into more businesses and eventually putting Magic Mountain Parkway through to 126 to the west. But the damage is moving the old road 50 feet west to expand the offramps and give marie calendars back their parking lot. They're covering up the drainage ditch and rerouting the road there. They moved the gas station into the hills there where the new road will be but it's way back there for now. It's actually not too much worse going to/from magic mountain from the freeway. The traffic lines for that are about the same as the old light there. Just don't go north/south on the old road. You'll wait a while.
  24. someone told me magic momments since golden bear is for the concert series and batman is returning to the old dolphin theater. What's it called now, batman action theater or something else?
