You know, it is completely up to you. I would go with the cybershot, it just seems better overall. Not too much more expensive either if you can fork out the extra 50 or so bucks.

I've had two of those Cybershots, the 5.1 megapixel version (which I'm currently using, same shell as the 7.2) and the 7.2 model you're looking at (which was stolen at a park )...and I can say both have worked very well for me, never had any problems with them.

If you can drop another $100, I'd go with the Canon SD700.

Of course, I doubt that such liquidity (+50%) is likely, so thats probably out of the question. I have seen some Canon SD 620's on sale for under 200 bucks, if you can get one of those, I'd scoop it up.

The Nikon seemd *decent* but not worth the same price range as the Sony Cyber Shot, so I'd have to pick out of that if limited to just those two choices. Just remember that when buying a Sony product, you are effectively buying into the brand whereas other brands are a little more flexible.

I'll check out the Cannon also. But ya, I have been speaking to my mom's friend who is a photographer and she said go for the Sony, but i hear the COOLPIX takes good videos, and I am also looking for that too.

Even though we allready had this convorsation I'll post is on here

I say you should get the Coolpix, because the one I have is very good and I think it is a older model so the L3 should be alot better. The L3 is also cheeper and comes with free mb. Thats like free FOOD! So I think you should get the CoolPix L3- Mitchell

Ok guys, I am really stuck now, the same store that is giving the Nikon with a memory card is giving a Sony Cybershot 6.0mp with the same card! For the same price. The store is STAPLES

I am a photographer as well and a lot of my friends and I take shots on Canon's. They are proven products and are overall better. Just my opinion, I have an older model, getting a new one soon, but I have the powershots. Great digi zoom, optical zoom is VERY key as well....

Just a thought!

I have a Canon 20D, but you won't be getting that, but I do know that Canon cameras are EXCELLENT when it comes to image quality. I know about 4 or 5 people who have Cybershot A-series cameras and they have both great still quality and pretty darn good video qualities as well.

Weird, since probably 95% of photographers use Canon.

Digital zoom is worthless.

So you didn't ask the photographer what to get. You asked her if what you wanted would "work." Big difference. OKAY, anyway. Yes, the Sony will "work" as your first camera, no it is not the "preferred" camera.
