phazan Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Yesterday I went to PGA, and I had a great time. I got three rides on TopGun, three rides on Demon, (Go Demon!) one ride on Vortex, two rides on Survivor, and no rides on Grizzly or Invertigo (Hmmm I wonder why?) My cousin is a dancer, and she was having some type of dance competition or something at PGA, so her brother invited me to come along, so we could ride some coasters. We started out on TopGun. I have always liked TopGun, but I have never rode it in the back seat. The back seat was the only place I rode after that! It makes a big difference in the back, and makes the ride about two times better than in the front. TopGun was awesome! We then headed over to Survivor! That ride is so funny! They have you do weird chant type things in line, and it supposedly gets the people on the ride wet. It was better watching all the people singing and stomping to the ''chant'' in line, than the actual ride! But anyway, I got on the ride, and other than the fact that my back was in pain from the weird seats they have, I enjoyed it very much. As long as you get a seat that goes over the top, the ride rocks! Its cool actually going over the edge of the track at the top. We then rode DropZone, and it was great as always. I really wanted to go on Demon for some reason, so I talked my cousin into going on it once (He had a bad experience a few years ago!) We went on it, and surprisingly, we had a blast! If you ignore the spot right before the corkscrews, it was great! It wasn’t that rough, and the restraints weren’t really near my head at all. We ended up riding it three times! It was cool and cloudy that day, so there weren’t a lot of crowds. But whenever it is cold, there isn’t anyone in line for the water rides. It is really hard not to go on a ride that has no line, that I usually has the longest lines in the park! So I went on the Log ride and the Splash Boat ride, a few times, and it was great! I also rode Vortex, and I liked it, but it was really rough for some reason. The restraints are right near my ears, and it wasn’t very comfortable. It has a nice layout IMO, but its kind of a coaster that I would only ride once in a day. The day went fast, and it was time to go home after a great day. As we were leaving the parking lot, an ambulance and a fire truck came as well as some PGA security cars. We were wondering what had happened, and my aunt’s friend told us my cousin's friend had hurt her neck on Demon. It doesn’t sound like she could have got hurt that bad, but that’s all the information that I found out. It could have been serious, and it could have been people over reacting. I don’t know... But now here are the pictures. I want to tell you right now that I was with my cousin, and he isn’t very patient, so he didn’t want to wait 30 seconds for the trains to come, so I mostly have pictures of just the track. The other times, I just had bad luck, and it was hard to catch the train. The pictures are okay, but the DLR pictures I took are a lot better. And Thank You for reading! this PTR ends with a duck! Drop Zone!!! ... Too boring... Grizzly Gone!! Going....... Going... I love you Demon!! ... ... More Vortex. Its Vortex! ... These masks are supposed to get you wet, but they only spray mist. ... Survivor! In line for the back. ... ... ... Awesome coaster. TopGun!
Bush985 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Glad you had a good time at the park. It was a pretty good day yesterday. -RD
c0sterfreek Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 IM glad you had a good time, but I wasnt in any of your pics . I usally work Top Gun but i was at Delta Flyers for the day. And I agree with Ryan, it was a good day yesterday. Glad you had a good time, Chris
phazan Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 ^^The Delta Flyers are the little things that go avove the park and take you back and fourth to one side to the other, right? If so, I rode that, so I probably saw you!
coasterdude5 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Awesome pictures! It's scary, still after all these years how similar the park is to Six Flags Great America. And Demon is awesome!
Bush985 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I wish I wasn't so busy yesterday. I was running all over the park taking care of stuff. It's been great hte past two days, rain has threatened but never hit. -RD
phazan Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 ^I was expecting rain, and all there was was coastal fog!
man Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 When I was there rain hit and survivor wouldnt run and I rode it three times where it spun in the station hey did ya see the top gun ghost
okinawaboy11 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Wow, I didn't know that Top Gun had an open station (As in no Roof). How many coasters do you know that have open stations? None that I can think of.
phazan Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 ^^Yes man, I saw the notorious TopGun ghost!! He's really nice actually, I had a nice talk with him. Then, as I was riding TopGun I accidentally kicked his head off again. Sorry TopGun ghost! ^Vortex has an open station also. I cant remember any others though. I do know that Medusa at SFMW once had no roof over the loading area.
NoahTheBoa Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Cool TR. PGA is a good park, I was there a couple weeks ago for our band trip. You're right, I can't recall very many open stations.
What Now Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 ^^ Don't Demon and Invertigo have open stations too?
Bush985 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Yes, Vortex, Top Gun, Demon, Invertigo, Taxi Jam and Runaway Reptar all have open stations. No cover. -RD
man Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 6 coasters wow I am amazed. edit-including thouse I know 8. So did survivor kinda like bounce.
c0sterfreek Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Yes those are the things that went over the park . I was the loader that day.
phazan Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 Hey I have a question for the people who work at PGA. Did any of you here about the incident that happened on Demon?
okinawaboy11 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 The incident that I THINK you'r talking about happened in 1998, at SIX FLAGS Great America. Not Paramount. I was acually at the park. No on the coaster (DAMN:P). I Acuallt was too afraid to ride Demon then, I only rode Viper and American Eagle. Anywho, it got stuck in the loop, a wheel came off.
phazan Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 ^No, lol I should have been more clear. Saturday an ambulance, firetruck, and PGA security responded to someone getting their neck hurt somehow on Demon. I was wondering if they overreacted, or if the girl was really hurt.
Bush985 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Anytime anyone reports a neck injury or says there is something wrong, the park or place will throw them on a backboard. It is standard procedure for most places. Neck injuries are very serious. I don't know what happened at PGA, but I would guess it was a precausion. -RD
pvcoasterguy Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 ^^ Actually, SFGAm's Demon broke an axle, which caused a safety system to engage and stop the train. Unfortunately, it stopped it in the loop. However, the Mindbender in the West Edmonton suffered the same type of mechanical failure, although this accident was due to faulty maintainence. Unfortunately, the coaster did not have the safety system, and the last car of the coaster slammed into a concrete pillar. So, the part right before the corkscrews is bad at PGA also? It's a terrible section of track at Six Flags Great America. It's a really bad transition.
phazan Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 ^Yes, the transition is very bad! It levels out after the drop right before the corkscrews, while the track is banked. It slams you into the side of the car.Its weird though, the corkscrews are like perfectly smooth!
