Reality15
I just got back from the Lansing Mall parking lot where Skerbeck's (Escanaba, MI amsuement company) has setup their midway full of rides, games, carnies, and more. I got an armband, and I'll probably be going back up later to ride a little bit more, and then later this week to take videos and more pictures, and then next weekend with some friends, so this may be an ongoing trip report. And of a CARNIVAL, at that! Got there, got an armband, and rode my first Cliff Hanger. While sure, they're not as comfortable as I can imagine a B&M flyer to be, it did impress me. The ops were running nice long cycles on everything, so we got to fly for quite a while. After that we took a spin on the Spider, which I've been on many many many times, but the long ride cycle once again just made the ride. I think it lasted about 4 minutes from ending of the load cycle to beginning of the unload cycle, all of which was spinning. Then I took my first ride on a Gravitron. I've never been on a Gravitron/Rotor, so I didn't really know what exactly to expect. I knew you got plastered to the wall, but the whole up/down thing really freaked me out. Great ride though, with (once again), a nice long cycle. I started to feel a little hungry, so I opted for one more ride before heading home (I live about a minute away), this time on the High Flyer. I don't know exactly what model this is from where, but it was (once again) a first for me, and, if the long ride cycles continue tonight, a last. It was fun, sure, but getting held up there at the top just hurts. Not SLC hurt, sure, but just hurt. Hopefully they'll setup the Loop-o-Plane and Toboggan sometime this week, they had them on-site on Wednesday when they got here but they're not on the midway anywhere. Alright, enough of that, on to the pictures I have right now. More pictures and videos as the week progresses! The far end of the midway. I hoped this would turn out, and it did. They also have Euro Bungees and a rock wall for $5.00 extra. One ride I opted not to go for, the Zipper. Remember Rob's "Manhattan Express" video? ;o) Now if only these happy smiles were around AFTER the ride. My sister : "I swear to god I'll kill you if you spin this thing right now..." Great ride, even for being on a carnival midway. At least it's better than a Vekoma flyer! Getting ready for our first ride of the day - the Cliff Hanger. trustkill22
Last time I was at a Fair was our local fair which is on during our May 2/4 weekend and it is the most haggard fair that it was my first time going in 8 years and last year I only got a candy apple and left. I love carnie though because for my candy apple I brought $5.00 and came home with $25.00. Tyler"Yes, I made $20.00"D
Rider117
You missed out on a Zipper?!?!?! Are you crazy? There awesome!
Reality15
Haha, me, ride a Zipper? Yeah right! Those things look more painful than anything produced by Arrow or Vekoma! Was just up there again. It was just packed wall-to-wall, so I made my way over to the Cliff Hanger, took a ride, and left. I didn't expect it to be that busy, but dang, they were making a killing off the people there. I didn't have my camera/videocamera with me, so there's no new media to look at. Next weekend, I promise...
DerekRx
Carnies scare the bejesus out of me. But thanks for the photos, looks like you had fun!
Shockwave
Sweet, I love all these fairs where you more or less take your own life in your hands! I have a soft spot for those inverting sky flyer type things. And the 'Flying' flat ride looks a lot more comfortable than the George Foreman grills! Nrthwnd
~ ~ ~ ~ Any carnival I've seen TRs on here seem to have loads more interesting flats and stuff... than my 'home park' cough*cough. Ah, but that's in the Rant Thread, lol. Thanks for sharing your trip to your carnival, and looking forward to more pix and vids. And ZIPPERS RULE! (Wait, did that 'read' right??? )
Reality15
Trust me, I know all about boring flats. My homepark (Michigan's Adventure) has worse flats than Fun Spot (my other homepark). If I want a waterpark, I go to Michigan's Adventure. If I want rides, I go to Fun Spot. I'm sitting here on my computer right now, and I can see the lights on the ferris wheel outside my window. Usually it's on the other side of the mall, but when they built the new Best Buy they moved it over to this side. And I still wish I knew what happened to the Toboggan and the Loop-o-Plane... BrownStreak
I myself am a sucker for carnivals. Once my ex and I were driving to his home in Toronto and we saw a Ferris Wheel off to the side of the highway coming into downtown Toronto. We drove over expecting to see a carnival but instead found that the Ferris Wheel has new automobiles on it!!!! They were filming a commercial! Wish I had gotten a picture.
