robbalvey Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 While on one hand I do look at a game from the development point of view, I also "play" games as a gamer. Sometimes it's understanding the "under the hood" stuff that actually makes me appreciate a game more, but in this case it just makes me understand the corporate management decisions that went into it. It's one of those games where if they creator had his way, it would have never been made. And it shows. The game hurts the rest of the franchise. Had this been the first game of the series, there never would have been a #2. But I think some people will make exceptions for this version because of #1 and #2. I just can't do that. If a game is bad, I call it like it is, regardless of how much I might like the previous versions. I'm actually hopefull that they are able to continue the series and make GOOD games out of them, but I really can't see how far they could take it, which is one of the reasons I know the original creator didn't want to do #2 or the PSP version. How much stuff can you really roll up in a ball? --Robb
PhishyBrewer Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 ^ What?! I was asking a serious question! I know. And I was only joking... man, we'd never would get a long would we?
crispy Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 WHAT???!!!! A NES emulator, what did I miss here, how the hell do I do that?????!!!!!! It's kind of a "development" thing. But you need to get a GBA flashcard, and then install the NES emulator on it. Here's a link that might be able to help you out: http://www.gameboy-advance.net/emulated/nes_roms_on_gba.htm --Robb THANKS!!!!!
Splash_Mountain Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I'm disapointed to hear about this, Katamari is such a fun game.
Imhotep Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I agree, it's pretty bad. Now is it bad, or is it just bad compared to what we've come to expect from Katamari!?!? I think its the latter...
robbalvey Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 It's definitely bad due to what we've come to expect. I ended up having to play it a little more today (I couldn't get my Lumines UMD to work! Stupid PSP and the faulty UMDs!!!) and I was trying to play the "peacock" level (I love that word) and it was just SO frustrating! It would appear that they have designed many sections of the level where they put the small stuff in front or in between the big stuff so you HAVE to play through the level slowly to try and not bash into the larger objects. Again, it's such poor level design. What used to be fun about the original Katamari is just rolling around everywhere picking up all the random objects, and in this version they've made even the basic game mechanic of "rolling stuff up" difficult to do. I need to just throw the game in the trash so I'm not frustrated anymore!!! --Robb "Had this version been Katamari 1 we would have never seen a sequel." Alvey
PhishyBrewer Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but... I just got my Japanese version of Katamari in the mail today from Hong Kong and the controls are soooooooooooo much more easier to use them the US version. Same buttons and all, it just seems to spins smoother. I don't know... maybe I'm just retarded. The US map and the Japanese map. All hail the King of the Cosmos.
PhishyBrewer Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 And just a little FYI for those interested in playing PSP import games; Region 1,2 and 3 work on my US version PSP. Welcome to Wally Island
robbalvey Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 And just a little FYI for those interested in playing PSP import games; Region 1,2 and 3 work on my US version PSP. Yes there is no region lock-out on PSP games. Never has been. Same goes with the DS games. --Robb
