pkdcoaster
^ S&S Towers do not depend on gravity in any way How can anyone say that about an amusement ride.....especially when they are that high.....if they didnt depend on gravity..they would have the same speed up the towers...gravity slows down the space shots going up...... (I am not saying they are coasters BTW) JEFF

viking86
S&S towers probably uses gravity to help slow the cars down when they are going up, but the speed is definately controlled. Its mostly noticable on the "downward launch" towers. After a short acceleration burst at the top, the cars move with constant speed downwards until it starts slowing down, unlike the Intamin and Fabbri towers (which are far more exciting) that just keeps accelerating all the way until they hit the brakes at the bottom. MattJackson
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I know S&S towers are not coasters. I'm just saying that with the classification some of you are using, they very well could be. You could say, coasters are rides in which one or more cars containing riders travels along a guided track, and relies on gravity at some point to complete a full circuit. But that sounds a little...incomplete.
martinb
I personally don't really class Stealth (Thorpe Park) as a coaster, more of a thrill ride! In saying that, should Tidal Wave at Thorpe Park be classed as a coaster? It has wheels, it goes up a lift hill and comes downhill! How on earth this is classed is a coaster: http://www.rcdb.com/ig884.htm?picture=3 And never in a million years would I class this as a coaster: http://www.rcdb.com/ig883.htm?picture=9 AGAIN this just aint a coaster: http://www.rcdb.com/ig2648.htm?picture=
ncf
That last link there is definately a coaster! Well I atleast think so...
martinb
^Well if you class that as a coaster, what do you class the Zamperla Disk'O as? ZAMPERLA.bmp
ncf
No that's not a coaster. I've ridden Halfpipe at Särkänniemi, and it certainly felt and looked like coaster to me
martinb
How can you class the Half Pipe as a coaster but not the Disk'O? They are near enough the same thing apart from ones alot bigger!

The first two may be kiddie coasters, but they are coasters. A Half-Pipe is simply a giant disk'o, which itself is a giant rockin' tug, which is not a coaster. martinb
How do you mean you would disagree? Do you think they are coasters or not? Do you class the Half Pipe as a coaster? Your edit beat me to it! So you think the first two links are coasters, really? How on earth can they be classed as coasters? Especially the Tubtwist ride, it's just a golf caddy with a round seat, its got go-kats wheels!NEVER A COASTER
viking86
How can you class the Half Pipe as a coaster but not the Disk'O? They are near enough the same thing apart from ones alot bigger! The Disk'O is powered all the way, while the halfpipe coasters are launched up the towers so I agree with ncf.
ahecht
I've never been on a Disk'O, but I know that the rockin' tug is powered only by a kicker wheel in the middle, and coasts up the two sides.
