Hello everyone. I was planning on going to SFMW today for the opening, but I had a lot of work to do today, so I am going tomorrow.

I bought season passes, and I was wondering a few things.

The web site is a little misleading, and I can't find any definitive answers.

-It says that if you process your pass before April 24th, you can get free "Bring Your Friend" tickets. Can you use these tickets the same day you receive them? We have some friends coming, and we would like to help pay for their tickets. Can we use these "Bring Your Friend" tickets when we go tomorrow?

-What other kind of discounts come in the coupon book that comes with Season Passes?

-Did anyone go for the opening today? How did the park look, etc. ?

Thanks!

I just came back from Marine World. The park looked ok, and all of the rollercoasters only had one car on the track.

Vertical Velocity and Kong was not running, and Zonga doesn't look like it will be opened again, because the new park map doesn't even show the ride on it.

Medusa only has two trains, and one looks pretty beat up, so only one was running today. Medusa also kept breaking down all day.

Roar now only has one train; I didn't even see the other one in storage.

Boomerang needs new cars or shoulder harnesses because they give off a sickening smell. Mildew has infected the harnesses, creating a unjoyable ride, not to mention the jerkiness of the ride.

Cobra, the kiddie coaster, was running today, and they only let you go around the track once.

Tava's Jungleland isn't built yet. They really haven't done anything yet, except put up part of the play structure. It is being built in front of Tiger Island, but behind Jambo.

Damn, that's just one horrible thing after another... I'm going tomorrow, I hope things'll be better... Vertical Velocity is one of my favorite rides, and that's sad Kong isn't running.

Oh, I almost forgot, they removed the trains (tracks and all), and some of the flat rides like the Tasmanian Devil, Monkey Business, Jambo, and VooDoo were closed.

Some of the rides, like the Wave Swinger closed at 4:00!

They now have a new parade, and a bunch of random superheroes standing at the front.

The new Shouka show does look great. The joint act with the dolphin and the killer whale really improved the show.

Oh, and to answer your question.

Can we use these "Bring Your Friend" tickets when we go tomorrow?

You need to go into the park and go to guest services (if you got your pass in the mail) to get the "Bring Your Friend" tickets. If you bought your pass online and have to go get it processed, then you need to get it processed and then you will recieve your "Bring Your Friend" tickets. After you get your "Bring Your Friend" tickets, you can just go back outside to the front of the park and walk back through the park entrance gates with your friends.

I hope more rides are open tomorrow.

That's exactly what I needed to know! Thank you!

That is lame. Don't they fix up the rides during the off season?

The coupon books are full of food and drink and games stuff, like for a basketball game buy 3 balls get 1 free or something. Nothing that great. Last year I got a season pass and I got my bring a friend free pass inside the park...so if you want to use it the same day you'd probably have to go back out and give it to them.

My reply is in bold in the quote:

Today the park was only running one train with some serious downtime issues that came about with a new control panel being installed last minute Friday night. The park ran 3 trains last year with no problems so I don't expect any less from them this year. Yet again, remember this is the first day of operations for the park in 2006.

Roar now only has one train; I didn't even see the other one in storage.

The other train is still in rehab, and you forgot to mention that the park re-tracked a LARGE portion of the ride. Roar is running as well as it did since it's opening year.

Boomerang needs new cars or shoulder harnesses because they give off a sickening smell. Mildew has infected the harnesses, creating a enjoyable ride, not to mention the jerkiness of the ride.

Funny, I was on this today with several people who work at the park and none of us noticed this. Yet again, I understand this is your opinion, but I honestly don't remember anything about a bad smell.

Cobra, the kiddie coaster, was running today, and they only let you go around the track once.

When have they ever done multiple circuits unless the park was extremely dead? Not saying that doesn't happen from time to time, but that's not normal operating procedure from what I've seen over the last few years.

I had the chance to shoot some photos for the park and noticed a ton of really positive changes, along with a handful of small opening day glitches at SFMW.

My friend Scott (Old Crow) from NCC just posted a quick TR from today and this is what he had to say:

I was hired by the park to do some photography and got to see much of the park while working. The park opened with a ceremony at the front gate that featured a switch thrown by two boys who were celebrating their birthday at the park. The switch was thrown and the gates went up and confetti and cheers filled the air.

Employees were everywhere to greet guests and help them find what they needed in the park. A large assortment of characters were out to welcome the kids and even some adults. It was really evident that employee / guest relations were better and I even noticed that security was beefed up this year.

There are subtle changes though out the park this year and the most eye catching is the construction to Tava's Jungleland and the new seating for the lakeside food court. Green mesh fences obscure the progress to the new area that stems from the entrance of the old Gentle Jungle, all the way to where the reptile display and lions and giraffes are. Right now the only progress you'll see is the vertical construction for Treehouse Play Structure. Everything else is just cement pads for rides and a plywood oval structure for cement to be poured for Safari River Journey. The placement of where the rides will go and overall structure for the new area looks to heading in the right direction and will enhance this side of the park.

The new table areas for the lakeside food court look pretty good. They removed the jumping fountains that have been unused for years, thus opening up the area for more room for tables and chairs. This opens the paths around the area and gives it a clean new look. A new cement centerpiece compass adorns the entrance to the new seating area.

Since I was working I didn't hit the rides but I did get to squeeze in a ride on Roar. Roar is running like it did when it first opened! It's gauge is nice and tight and while in the back seat I literally was pulled out of my seat and into the restraints during the first drop. Once again the ride's pace continues to get faster and faster and the brakes this year are very gradual and smooth. The orange train got a brand new undercarriage with new wheel assemblies. V2, Kong, Zonga (duh) and Jambo and a few other rides were down.

The food experiences were little to be desired on this trip and a few employees didn't have any clue to what they even served. This was the only negative part on this trip. Cobra's dispatch times were pretty lengthy but I'm sure that will pick up over time. Roar's one train op seemed to dispatch pretty quickly.

While working I got to photograph the dolphins and Shouka. Shouka's new show features Merlin the dolphin and we get to see both of them interact. Both shows are similar in quality compared to last year.

New this year is their parade. Characters, animals and park employees start the parade at 4 p.m. near the backside of Shouka Stadium and head towards the food court and past the shark experience. This is a nice way for the kids to see some of the more interesting animals up close. A monitor lizard, coral snake, a camel, a sea-lion and porcupine and monkey were all part of the parade.

I hope this gives you another perspective of opening day. I personally didn't get the chance to play around a ton during our visit, but my girl and I enjoyed our full day at SFMW.

^Despite my kvetching elsewhere about 6F adding parades instead of rides, the idea of animals joining in the SFMW parade is promising - it's always fun to see animals strolling through the park. And that's good news about Roar - last year, it was kinda neck-snapping in places.

But I still wish that SFMW would add at least a few good flats...if not a major thrill ride.

And that it would stop raining long enough to go.

So, we went today. And it was a lot of fun. Extremely hard to gage everything, since everything looks miserable soaked in rain. We got to the park at around noon, right when it started to pour. It did so the entire time, until the early unscheduled closing at 4pm.

The same rides were closed all day: Vertical Velocity, Kong, Zonga.

They closed Medusa down pretty early at around 3:30, and then when heading to Boomerang announced that the park would be closing early at 4.

I can't wait to go when it doesn't rain constantly, and I can at least get a ride on Kong and V2.

It was still tons of fun though. We also saw the Dolphin show, which was entertaining. And would have seen Shouka had the park not closed early.

That was my day at SFMW.

We were crossing our fingers yesterday because of how the weather was looking all last week. We lucked out with no rain, but the park got rather chilly after 4ish, (today looked like it was a going to be a rain out though.)

The parade itself has a lot of potential and I'm sure it will be fine tuned as the next couple of weeks go on. NCC will have an update of SFMW's opening weekend along with a nice series of construction shots from Tava's Jungleland coming a bit later this evening. I just got done processing all the photos so the hard part is done.

That's a spot I wanna go in the US trip to San Francisco. But no mean if it'd be rain on the day just I go there.

I can't say I couldn't get any ride though I had a long way from Japan, can I?

^SFMW isn't really in a circle shape. Thats one thing I hate about that park. You half to walk all the way around a long path to get to Roar and V2.
