AznShortBoi8021 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Today, I went rail and bus fanning with my brother and cousin. Took plenty of a pictures. Its great to have friends in the railroad industry First thing in the morning, we took the bus(106 Wellington Station) to Wellington Station. Had a little snack at Wellington Station while waiting for another bus. There, we then took the bus(90 Davis Station) to Sullivan Station. At Sullivan Station, we hopped on the bus(86 Cleveland Circle) to Harvard University. Then we got on the bus(66 Dudley Station) to Commonwealth and Harvard Ave's. We then hopped on the trolley(BX Kenmore Express) to Kenmore Station. We snapped a photo of the construction of the new Kenmore Bus Station. Hopped on the trolley(B Government Center) to Park Street/Downtown. Then we hopped on the subway(Orange Line to Oak Grove) to Wellington Station, once again. At Wellington Station, we hopped on the bus(134 North Woburn) to Winchester Center Station. Then walked 1/4 mile southwest to Wedgemere Station. After freezing our asses off for 45 minutes, the commuter train(2:25 PM to Lowell Station) to Lowell Station. There, we met up with my good friend who works for the MBCR(the company that runs the commuter trains in Massachusetts). He is a conductor, he make sures everyone has a train ticket. He let us ride in the cab! Thats the area where you control the train. We rode down to Boston/North Station. Then we hopped on the 4:25PM train to Haverhill(pronounced Have-rill. Have pronounced like Cave). We got off at Malden Center Station. Then tooked the bus(105 Sullivan Station) back to my house. To conclude this photo TR, a picture of McDonalds inside Boston/North Station. Track #11 is closed due to construction of a new highway in Boston. Someone threw a bag of crap onto the tracks. Unlike Washington D.C., no one cares if there is a bag of crap on the tracks. From left to right: F40PHM-2C #1069, GP40MC #1134 We're here! The last stop. Boston/North Station. Still in the cab car. Crossing the bridge into Boston North Station. Still in the cab car. Looking south at Boston North Station. I'm in the cab car. Sorry for the crappy picture. It is rare to see a Guilford freight train in Boston on Tuesdays. Only Thursdays. There is a coffee shop at Wedgemere Station. Its closed today. Looking north at Wedgemere Station. Looking south at Wedgemere Station Looking north at Winchester Center Station Looking south at Winchester Center Station. Here, they are constructing the new Kemore Bus Station. It is slated to open in 2007. But knowing its in Boston, it will probably open in 2010. Another shot of the Lemon. Near the intersection of Harvard Ave and Commonwealth Ave. Here is a Lemon, I mean Breda Type 8 Light Rail Vehicle. It is infamous for frequently derailing if traveling at speeds above 25 MPH. Brattle Street near Harvard Univerity. A Neoplan AN440LF/ETB. It is a bus that runs only on electricty. Harvard University, again. Here is a NABI 40LFW running on bus route number 1. Harvard University. Insert some funny comment here. Harvard University. Just after getting off the 86 bus. SNACK! A chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles, and Moutain Dew. A subway train about to enter revenue service. Wellington Station also doubles and a repair shop for subway cars.
ebl Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Nice to see another bus and train fan around here. I really enjoyed that report. Eric "lives 100 ft. from a busy Union Pacific rail line with plenty of passenger trains" L.
waterviper Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Pretty cool tr! It's very informative. If I ever go to boston I will be sure to rip out my palm top computer and bust out this thread to help find my way around.
ebl Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I just noticed: that Neoplan A440 bus---do my eyes deceive me or are there doors on the driver's (that would be facing the street) side of the bus? If so, it must be a customized bus that pulls up to a center island or something. At least I hope so... Eric
AznShortBoi8021 Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 ^Yeah, that is a driver side door. At Harvard University, the bus pulls into a badly designed tunnel. The tunnel was probably designed by a European. The bus pulls into the right side of the platform.Unless you want to squeeze into a 1 1/2 foot gap to enter the bus, you need a left side door.
Carnage Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I grew up living right next to train tracks. Though the novelty wore off pretty quickly when a freight train would block the crossing, resulting in a 45 minute walk down to where an underpass was. (when my house was directly across the tracks).
AznShortBoi8021 Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 MORE PICTURES! Here are some pictures from yesterday. I won't go into many details. One last shot of the Downeastah. And that concludes my photo TR. Another shot of the Downeaster, or Downeastah, as Bostonians like me say it. Here is the Amtrak Downeaster passing Lawrence Station. Back at Awrence, err, Lawrence Station. Here is a train going to Boston. The locomotive is in push mode. Here is the Nile River. It freezes each winter. Another look at the Mississippi River. Crossing the bridge. Here is the mighty Mississippi River. Here is a bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. The parking lot at Lawrence Station. Pretty modern looking. Here is the cab car of the train I was on. Welcome to Awrence Station! I mean Lawrence. I missed the L in this shot. More of the Guilford frieght yard. We're passing a Guilford freight yard in Andover. We just passed Oak Grove station in Malden. We're dragracing with a Novabus RTS. We won! Hooray for 40 MPH speed limits! Here is a bridge going over the Mystic River. Trains going over this bridge go to either Rockport or Newburyport. More of the abandoned RDC's. Effing gangsters! Abandoned RDC's along the Highline. As you can see, these cars were tagged. Stupid gangsters have no respect for antique rail cars. Now, I am on the commuter train to Lowell, MA. Here, we are dragracing with an Orange Line subway train. We lost. Stupid 25 codes at the Highline. At least it wasn't a 10 code. More pics of the repair yard. BTW, this repair yard is called Boston Engine Terminal, or commonly referred to as BET. I am on the Orange Line subway. It is rare to see Kawasaki Double Decker cars at this repair yard.
FlyingScooter Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 nice shots. Some of those Train stations looked like they are out of the movie: Citizen X.
V2-dude Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I go to school next to the Union Pacific yard in Oakland. I also own a caboose. It had its stairs an a few other things removed for transport, but we're going to weld them back on.
