Thrillrider15 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Somebody help me!! My Theme Park Review 2003 Season DVD isn't working (it's only DVD#1 that isn't working)!! Please help! It all started last night. I decided to watch the DVD on the computer. But for some reason, it could only play the first two videos (the introduction, and the Elissa moving to California). I also saw that the video wasn't playing at a fast pace frame rate. So then, I got an idea of ripping some of the videos I wanted to watch from the DVD, onto my computer (Unfortunatly, I have never used a DVD ripper before). So when I tried to rip it to my computer, it started coming up with this error on like the eighth video saying something (I can't really remember what it said). So then all the videos after the eighth video, got the same message. Then, the Drive the DVD was in started making noises (it kind of sounded like scratch noises). So then I exited the DVD ripping program, and opened the drive the DVD was in after it stopped making that weird noise. So then I open it, I look on the back of the disk, and I see a few scratch marks on the back of the DVD (whic weren't on the DVD before, because I take care of my DVD's. ). So I decided to screw the whole ripping thing, and just watch it on the TV. Unfortunatly it was late, and everybody else was in bed. So I went upstairs to watch it. After the second video (which was the one where Elissa moves to California), it started to flicker, pause for a few seconds, and in some cases, pixelated the screen. Also, the titles sometime became flickery. And too, sometimes, the whole DVD stopped playing. After from what the DVD did that I explained above, I took it out of the DVD, and cleaned it, I put it back in, and it does the same thing. Only not the same spots in the movie. Then, I tried the second DVD (which I never put in the conmputer), and it had that same problem. So I just concluded that the DVD player just couldn't keep up with the bit rate of the DVD, and I went to bed (And I did brush my teeth ) Today, after I was done taking a shower and everything, I tried to play the Theme Park Review DVD on the downstairs DVD (which is more reliable and more durable). And it got pretty far in the DVD. But then when it got to the fifteenth DVD I think (which is Paramount Kings Dominion), and then for less then a second, it froze, then started playing. But the a couple of seconds later, it froze again, and the same problem happened as the upstairs DVD player had. And the same thing happened with the video after that(which was Bonfante Gardens). Then I took it out of the DVD player, cleaned it, then popped it back in the DVD player. Then I started the DVD at Six Flags Marine World, and Valleyfair!, and it got past the whole video without flickering, except for I saw when it faded out at the end, I saw it flicker for a second. And then the next video, it just flickered then whole time. By then I just gave up, put it back in the case, and now I'm asking for help (by the way, I never tried the second DVD in the computer, nor the downstairs DVD player). I know this was a lot to read, but I need the help. Please reply if you have any suggestions. Because I need the help. Thank you.

coaster1 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Ive experienced the same issue .. over time I guess they die .. since they worked .. and now they don't .. very strange.
frozenflames Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I have the DVD set of volume five (Japan-A-Mania) and I've had the exact same problem with all three of the discs, but the problem has been occuring since I first got the DVDs. I've had the discs for about eight months now, and have never once been able to get through an enitre DVD before the problems occur. There are even many times where the discs "override" my remotes, and the only way I can perform any fucntions with the DVD player is if I literally pull the plug and restart the whole system! I really want to enjoy watching these videos, but I can't because all of the issues.
coasterdude5 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Yeah, that's only happened to me on my portable DVD player.
AshCampbell Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I've experienced a problem similar to this a couple of times and I found that MOST of the time cleaning the lens (Discwasher makes a cleaner - you put a drop of fluid on one of the two brushes on a special CD) will fix the problem. On a couple of rare occasions when cleaning the lens didn't work, I had a friend duplicate the disc on his PC using a TDK (or similar high quality disc) DVD, and the duplicated disc then plays fine. The problem comes down to a dirty lens on DVD. They arent' supposed to get dirty, but they do. I've never experienced any problems with the DVDs from TPR that a quick lens cleaning didn't fix.
robbalvey Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Basically, if you are having problems with any of our DVDs, just email me and I'll send a replacement disc. The DVDRs are quite tempermental. The blanks we use are considered "high quality" for bulk blanks, but they don't work in every player. If you've done everything (cleaned the disc and the lens) and still you're having problems, let me know and I can burn discs on an even higher quality blank, but for cost reasons, we don't do every one like that. Overall, most people seem to be able to watch them with little or no problems. Once DVD mastering and duplication comes down to a reasonable price we might go that way, but until then, we're kind of stuck with DVDR's. --Robb
coasterdude5 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Oh, they work fine with everything else, it's just one of those cheapo DVD players so I don't have high standards.
Angry_Gumball Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Are you guys using DVD-R or DVD+R? If you're using -R, good. If you're using +R, I'd switch to -R as it's more compatible with most DVD players out there...as I've learned at work. Also, as far as compatible DVD players, I'd recommend the CyberHome CH300 series...they have worked with my burnt DVDs.
