Vid clip from one of my favorite car shows ever, the Brits' "Top Gear" and my new dream car: the Ariel Atom. Doesn't matter whether you like the 2.0L Honda powerplant or not, they supercharge it to 300hp and dump it in a 1000 pound two seater........flat out amazing power to weight ratio, to say the least. A 2.8 second trot to 60 isn't that bad either!

Now how much would it be to get one to my door?

The first time I saw this car on Top Gear, watching Jeremy Clarkson's face flap as he quickly and viciously accelerated made me fall in love with the car. When I showed my roommate the video, he fell in love with it. I showed my best friend, he went to their website, configured an Atom, printed out pictures and said, I WILL have one of those.

The Ariel Atom is simply an amazing piece of engineering. The base price is below 50K and souped up with some essentials and then some, can remain under 60K. The only issue with having one is people messing it up. My main goal is to get one with the 300 HP Supercharged Civic engine and pull up to some unsuspecting ricer on the roads. Race him and totally annihilate him.

Yeah, I'm learning alot about this awesome car, although, I doubt I will ever have one, but never say never I guess

You can now get it with either the Honda Engine, or a General Motors Ecotech, both put out the same 300 HP, but the Ecotech has a torque edge, Reliability would not be a factor, as the Ecotech is a very nicely engineered piece of machinery, but the transmission, only a 5 speed for the Ecotech

I doubt it would matter what engine you used, this car is so so fast for so little money.

I heard on a message board that they are having some issues getting the Honda engines, now considering it came from a honda tuner message board, I of course take it waith a monsterous grain of salt

I would love to have any of them, even the base with 145hp would be fine by me

Here is Road and Tracks assesment of the U.S. version.

Can you imagine getting 1000hp ecotech, holy crap

Who knows? In maybe 5 years, when I have a steady job...

This beast is approved for regular road use, right?

EDIT: Just found out I have about 3/40 of the money I'd have to pay... Only about $18500 more to go.

For the most part, it's street legal, and it's pre built. There's other kit cars as fast or faster with equally stupid power to weight ratios (Google "Dax Rush" to see what a turbo'd Hyabusa engine can do in a super light package), but this one's pretty much turnkey.

When they raced the Atom around the Top Gear Test Track, I think it came in as the 2nd fastest car around the track!

Only the Ferrari Enzo was quicker.

It has since dropped to 4th behind the Pagani Zonda F, Maserati MC-12, and the Ferrari Enzo. Still an outstanding piece of machinery. It sucks that it's sold as track-only. I would do everything in my power to make it street-legal.
