DisneySea_Fan Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Hi! I'm thinking about going to Japan in August-September and was wondering if Journey to the Center of the Earth is worth going across the ocean for. I know their Indy is good but I can just go to Disneyland for it. How bout the ToT opening? Is it different enough to warrant a trip to Japan? Out of all these E-tickets, which one is best? Everybody keeps telling me this is the best ride at the resort and that it's the best thing Disney has ever made. I don't want to be disappointed so can someone please tell me if this is true. If not, what is the best Disney ride so I can plan my visit to that park. Thanks a dozen! P.S- I heard Pooh's Hunny Hunt is good but I'm not really into Fantasyland type dark rides.
SharkTums Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 One ride is not worth a trip of that magnitude. However if you are even slightly a 'disney enthusiast' you MUST make the trip! I can tell you personally, I HATE Winnie the Pooh with a passion...but you can't argue that the stupid ride is amazing! Unless you can get really cheap airfare and a cheap hotel try to do more than just Disney and it will really be worth it. Japan is amazing, Robb and I are now trying to go every year!

Is Journey really better than Tower of Terror, Indy, Splash Mountain, and all the other "classics"? I've enjoyed all these rides so will Journey be a bit of a let down or does it surpass even these rides? P.S- How big exactly is the drop at the end when you plunge down the side of the volcano?
robbalvey Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 IMO, Journey is great, but I have to be honest that I'm not as into it as other people, including Elissa are. The Lava monster animatoric is amazing, probably the company's best. The ride through the mountain is really cool, but I was dissapointing by the ending. I really thought the "drop" was going to be bigger, more like Spash Mountain, but it's actually really short, or at least it seemed short to me. And the whole "upwards helix" getting to the drop is completely in the dark so for me it's hard to get a sense of speed. I prefer Journey up until the lava monster over Test Track, but I like Test Track's ending better than Journey. As a 'complete package" though, in terms of both on and off the ride theming, effects, thrills, I'd say it IS one of Disney's best rides. I would put MGM's version of Tower ahead of it. --Robb
rollermonkey Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 DSF, You actually live in Nagoya, Japan, right? If that is the case, you really have no excuse not to come up and see DisneySea. The shinkansen would run you about 80,000 yen each way and if you are really pressed, there are always the capsule hotels! TDS is beautiful, quite possibly the most immersive theming of any of the Disney parks around the world. Journey is very good, as are Pooh and the 'classic' rides. If you can wait until ToT opens, you'll have it all. As you call yourself DisneySea Fan, you probably should make it up here to justify your choice. If I am mistaken, and you are not living in Japan, then you need to consider the value for cost with a plane ticket in the mix.
downunder Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Is there a POV video of Journey to the centre of the Earth? You Alvey's make me want to go to Japan, only been there once for sport but I didn't have time to check out parks.
SharkTums Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I know we have on on our Coaster & Ride Footage 2004 DVD. It's one of those rides that is pretty dark, don't think it would turn out very well as a downloadable video.
downunder Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Oh well, I'll have to keep my eye out for a TPR Japan tour in the future if it happens, now that I know so much more about England's coasters and parks the June tour looks great too. DisneySea sounds like an excellent park, is it the best Disney Park?
SharkTums Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 cough 2007 cough I don't know if it's the BEST Disney Park, but it's certainly up there!
downunder Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Let's hope steel dragon is back up by then, there are rumours, can't vouch for their validity though. I've heard a lot of good things about Disneysea, while I'm not a huge Disney fan like I don't want to go to their parks over and over again. I'm always up for a new Disney experience.
rollermonkey Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 ^ SD2K: Do not hold your breath for the reopening of this coaster. It will likely happen, but there really is no indication of when, let alone if. There are a lot of social and cultural ramifications about accidents in Japan. Railway presidents resign in this country when accidents occur, for example. There are may be contractual obligations between Morgan and Nagashima SpaLand gumming up the process as well. (Morgan's hyping the fact that they made 4 carousels this year fer cryin' out loud!) There are enough 'world class' coasters in Japan and enough cool stuff outside of parks that you shouldn't wait for something like that to visit. If you wait for Zaturn and Fuji-Q's 4D to open, that makes sense, just don't pile SD2K on top of those as a condition, too. (End rant?)

But then, I hear people say that Journey is better than Indy so what is the best Disney ride? Most people I've asked and actually been to all Disney parks say it is Journey but I find that hard to believe.
maliboomer Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 ^ I know you're determined for there to be a best, but I can't pick one out. I could make a fairly large list of my favourites, but each ride is so different it wouldn't make sense to pick just one particular ride.
