Christmas at Universal!

I went to UO on Friday and decided to fool around with my new camera for the occasion. I'm new to this whole photography thing, so bear with me. Not much to report from the parks. I only got on 4 rides (Jaws, Mummy, JPRA and Spider-man) between checking out the Christmas stuff. Mummy was having "technical difficulties" the first time I tried to ride, but thankfully it was working later. I never got on MIB because it was down as well. Damn I'm lucky. :? I noted that the hadrosaur was missing on JPRA. I guess our boat was knocked off course by a ghost? It also appears that they replaced the stegosaurus. It has different coloring and I think it's actually a little bigger than before.

 

There's a sign up for the Driving Machines in Suess stating it will open Summer 2006. They were doing some work in the tunnel and had it partially blocked off but you can still see in. Jaws will be closing again starting... today. It probably won't be open again until Spring Break, which is a shame, because all the boats were full and people obviously want to ride it. Some of the effects were working better than usual, so they don't seem to be completely neglecting it... yet.

Funny, I rode the JP Adventure a few weeks back and the Stegosaurus was covered by a big tarp...yet U can still hear him. It was my 4-year old son's 1st time riding so it kinda bummed me out since he swears he'll never ride it again (yet he'll do Scorpion at BGT over & over).

There's always something broken on JPRA. I think I had a ride where everything was working on JPRA in October.

I rode JPRA this past Saturday and was shocked to see the big giant JP gate/doors actually working.

I haven't had a problem with the gates in awhile. It's usually other things that aren't working when I ride. It wouldn't surprise me if there's effects I've never even seen. I never saw water gushing out of the tube right in front of the T-Rex until last year. I also seem to remember the T-Rex being surrounded by fog originally, which I haven't seen in a long time. They need an effect like that, because he's never moving yet when he comes into view. Totally kills the realism.

Surprisingly the J/P gates were working everytime! Although the 'raptor in the crate' wasnt working everytime.

Isn't it cutely ironic that the most-often-malfuntioning attraction at a theme park be themed after...a theme park where everything goes wrong? Very postmodern, that.
