No Limits!

But Its better on the PC. There are only two extra tools for the Mac version and countless tools for the PC. (Track Smoother etc)

Cost is I think $30.00 a pop. But trust me its worth it.

But If your talking like a RCT type of game there is "Sim Theme Park" I think its called that. (Not very good though)

Dude run a paper route for a few months... Buy a PC learn what hell they can be at times... Find a virus scanner learn not to use IE or Outlook for anything. Get a good spyware scanner and all before you should do anything with the machine.

Seriously though you can get or build a PC that should at least run RCT3 decently for like $600 and thats only a few months on a paper route. Honestly I have a windows machine for class work and some games. I use my Mac for almost everything despite the fact that it is almost 6 years old now. It works perfectly and there is better free software available in many areas IMHO.

Just remember that Macs have basically none of the attacks that Windows machines get every day so make sure to setup all the Anti-Virus and Spyware prevention systems. Oh and never click on banners advertising spyware prevention as they usually are spyware...

EDIT: PC owners don't get me wrong if a PC is setup well it can be fairly secure and should perform quite well for a while. It is just that mac users kinda take for granted that their comps are secure because most of the malware and such just doesn't exist on macs. Also almost all my friends who have used pc's all their lives reformat occasionally because performance decreases...

Since I switched to FireFox, I havent had a peice of spyware/malware on my computer. Nor have I contracted any viruses.

Obviously IE is flawed. If there were as many Mac users out there as there are windows, you can bet that people would be hacking the mac software and developing stuff for it too.

But why spend time making malware to affect a small portion of the population when you can spend the same time making something that affects most of the population?

Same goes for the production of games. If you want (or need) to make money, you are going to tap into the larger market.

Look if you want me to poke holes into your logic I will be happy to but fact is that Windows does have more holes than basically any other OS and it isn't just because people are looking for holes in it.

Seriously though if you want a truly safe Windows system you need to take it offline. The same is true for any system though.

Ultimately there are a variety of poor design decisions in Windows that make it far easier for someone to inadvertantly install something I mean name me any other OS that gives you root access as the default account... What the hell were they thinking?

Also you realize that by your logic they shouldn't make any games for Gamecube or X-box because they have smaller markets... The problem is that the Mac market really isn't big enought to support games developed just for it. However there are plenty of games that make money for the Mac. In fact a higher percentage of games for the Mac make money than those released for the PC. So yeah just because you could make a larger profit doesn't mean that you will.

EDIT: Ok I want to apologize for coming off as abusive sometimes but honestly as a Mac user I put up with the same logic from all PC users about why they get more attacks and the like. I am defensive of my platform of choice mainly because most people attack it. I'm sure you can understand that.

I also never once said that the Windows OS had less holes...I infact, am quite aware of its serious lack of protection.

But there are ways around it, for those who dnt care to do a few extra steps.

I think your response a little fast too. I would agree that most games made on mac make money because the community is smaller and tighter. Because of this, not that its because people buy every mac game they can because theres a lack of games, but because most Mac games that are ported are already established on Windows and the Mac gamers cant wait to get their hands on it.

However, when you do have a more centralized core of OS users and a smaller game base, its obvious that the percentages will go up. You wont sell as many units, but youll sell more percentage wise per user of that OS.

So yea, its kind of like if theres 10 mac users and 9 of them buy a game. Thats 90%. But for Windows, lets say theres 1,000 users and 500 buy it. Thats only 50% but 441 more units sold. Which, in the PC game market, might not fare so well.

Ive got nothing against the macs. I wish they had more prominance and I wouldnt have to hear people get on their soap boxes to defend it. I dont mean to say that at you, because I understand you defending it, but I wish more people would educate themselves on both systems. I owned a Mac awhile ago and while it was ok, I just couldnt get into the OS as much as Windows. But I wont take away from what is a very stable and safe system, thats for sure.

EDIT: About the GameCube XBox thing...Gamecube IMO isnt growing that much. XBox is. 5-6 weeks after Halo 2 came out, I STILL couldnt get an Xbox or Halo2 anywhere. I actually got an XBox at my local Walmart, one of the only places in town to have one. The system is gaining hugely on the PS. I think too once the next generation of XBox comes out, well definately see the boom start.

Except I was saying that more games (percentage wise) for the Mac actually make a profit than on PC. You can of course attribute this to the fact that first of all they are ports and therefore cheaper to make in most cases. The fact still remains that many PC games especially recently have failed to turn a profit.

I honestly look at the moves made by much of the industry and see the relevance of PC gaming decreasing. Personally I even think that XNA is more of an attempt by MS to keep developers making games on the PC than to try to lure them to consoles. I mean granted some genres just don't work well on the consoles but most of those genres have seen decreasing sales as well. The increase in differences between the low end and high end PC's will continue to cause problems for the PC games market.

Oh and just so you know the PS2 is back to outselling the X-box as of Jan...

Obviously, but its stupid when I hear people compare the PS2 to XBox. PS took awhile to catch on too, i remember. I remember when it only had a small selection of games too. Its going to take some time but I definatly think that XBox has caught on maybe even better than Gamecube.

That and GT4 just came out so Im assuming sales spiked on its behalf. Hopefully this Forza Motorsports which is coming out for Xbox in May (hopefully) will compete. Ive never liked PS much, only for Gran Turismo 2. 3 wasnt that great and Id probably only get a PS for GT4 even though Im fairly certain Forza will be better. I like Gotham better than GT anyways and its a touch less realistic.

Real I said January... GT4 only came out a few weeks ago and definitely didn't affect January numbers.

PGR has nothing to do with reality really. I mean it started with Metropolis Street Racer for Dreamcast (which I absolutely love but suck horribly at) which was all about style and quality driving while using movie type physics.

Also consider that overall the Cube is actually in second place albeit not a strong second but the sales in Japan of the X-box are so abysmal it basically offsets any ground that the X-box has over the GC in any other territory.

Also saying that the X-box is even remotely comparable to the PSOne at this point is just silly. PSOne caught on almost immediately it outsold the Saturn from day one and the N64 never came close. The X-box isn't even close to comparable to that. MS really made some horrible decisions and some decent ones when making the X-box. I mean what were they thinking just pulling components from manufacturers. Everyone wants a profit and that has really hurt them paying nVidia and Intel for their components instead of making their own.

I will say that I am a fan of japanese games and that is why I don't have an X-box. Plain and simple the games I tend to prefer just don't exist in high numbers on the X-box. Others like the type of games on the X-box so it is a better fit for them.

Honestly if the box drops to $100 this E3 like it is rumored I will pick one up but it will never be my primary system.

Posted

They pulled components because no other system compares in the power and range of design. I havent seen a PS2 game yet to compare with most of the XBox games out there.

PS1 caught on because they were the first ones to do what they did, WELL. Which is a huge deal in this market. There were other cd systems, but none of them faired very well.

PS2 graphics just are almost too bad for me to play on. My N64 had smoother graphics and Ill tell ya, I think I enjoyed more N64 games than I have PS games. I dont think it was a bad decision at all to pull from other manufacturers. Its a bit more costly, but I dont think MS could make products well enough to compete. MAybe they realized that too?

I dont wish to sound like a PS hater. I understand your point totally since I know a few japanese game nuts as well. Obviously your only real choice is PS, which theyve got that market entirely cornered. But I just couldnt get into any of the PS games. I havent found a controller yet thats big enough for me not to smash 2 buttons at once (and they seem to only get smaller) and even GT4 to me is nothign more than a makeover of an already good series. Not great, but good.

Ive been racing simulation games for 15 years, going way back to Papyrus's Indy Car Racing 2 I think was my first, that and Nascar by the same group. No console has been able to tap into that yet and when I compare GT to PGR, PGR wins hands down in fun factor.

But I dont want to turn this into a console bashing thread. XBox suits the types of games I like. Ive got no pre-existing opinions with any other system since I played most of them before XBox, but the games on there were more fun than the others. Most PS2 people play japanese games, role playing games or sports. Even though Ive found the XBox sports games to be just as good if not better now.

That video is just such complete and utter crap... There are plenty of games for the Mac. Sure it might not have every game but there are more than enough to keep most people happy. I mean that might have had some truth back in like 1996 when the mac was really having issues but the mac marketshare is larger than ever. There are quite a few companies that keep brining quality ports to the mac and they keep managing to release more titles each year. Ultimately though Mac users don't choose it because of games so a pure gamer isn't going to game on a Mac. Mac users like their OS and will defend it.

Of course lets be honest here the PC game market is gradually going the way of the dodo. Consoles are often the lead system now with PC versions of a game simply being ports. If that isn't a bad sign I don't know what is.

Oh and Real you must be a graphics whore man... I don't know what PS2 games you have played but many of them rival the X-box games and if you were at all openminded you would see that in a second. Look at things like God of War, Zone of Enders 2, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, Final Fantasy X, Champions of Norrath, and the Silent Hill games... I mean seriously if you can say those are ugly you are either blind or you are way to biased to be realistic.

You seem bound and determined to make me a PS2 fan so its quite pointless to even carry on. I guess one cannot express their own opinions (based on actual gameplay) without some sort of recourse.

As I believe I said way back in the beginning...for the types of games I play, what I like needs to be more powerful, play better and faster. Im not an RPG person at all. Not much into sports. Dont like fantasy games. That should explain why I dont feel the PS2 is that great a machine, for me.
