USRoadTripper Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 For anyone who got the Circuit City circular in todays paper...check out the $199 laptop on the front cover. Think it will have a sufficient video card to play RCT3? And if not, how much does a laptop video card cost? Even with the AOL subscription, that sounds like a fantastic deal, but only if it's fast enough to play the newer games. -Julie
Wes Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 For $199, I wouldn't even expect the thing to turn on, much less play video games.
USRoadTripper Posted November 24, 2005 Author Posted November 24, 2005 For $199, I wouldn't even expect the thing to turn on, much less play video games. Thanks for the nasty reply. Just what I needed on Thanksgiving. If you can't be helpful, why butt in and be rude? When was the last time you paid $200 for something that didn't turn on? I will ask again, if anyone knows what kind of video card that computer has in it, and if it would be able to play RCT3, I would like to know. Don't want to wait in line then discover it won't do something basic that I want. By the way, it meets all the other specs for RCT3, it just doesn't give info about the video card, and doesn't give a model number in the ad. -Julie
DenDen Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Laptops are made with video chips, not video cards. They aren't replacable. And that Celeron "M" processor is the pitts. Toshiba's high-end models are great, but their low-end models (such as this) are garbage for anything other than internet and work.
BelizeIt Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I checked out the Circuit City Ad in todays paper. Unfortunately this computer isn't really designed for video games, and the system requirements for RCT3 would be steep. (It may play some basic older games) I'd save up for a while and get a Dell Desktop, they run all sorts of specials all the time. You can get a decent starter computer $500.00 to $600.00. If you have your heart set on a laptop, then for a system that would play current games, it will be fairly costly. (At least compard to a Desktop)
USRoadTripper Posted November 25, 2005 Author Posted November 25, 2005 Those were pretty much the answers I was expecting, but figured I'd ask anyway. I figured that for $199, it was a great deal if it would do what I wanted it to, but wasn't holding my breath. Oh well, it was a nice thought. Thanks guys. -Julie
DenDen Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I may actually go get one of these tomorrow as a gift for a non-gamer, that is, if they don't sell out in 5 minutes. I have a circuit city within walking distance.
Wes Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Thanks for the nasty reply. Just what I needed on Thanksgiving. If you can't be helpful, why butt in and be rude? Well, that was just a warm up! On Christmas, I'm going to children's hospitals and telling them there's no Santa Clause and then I'll push them down a flight of stairs. On Chanukah, I'm going to read Mein Kampf to a bunch of mentally challenged Jewish kids. It's going to be a great time. Maybe I'll do a Photo TR. wes (I was joking, I wasn't being rude.)
BarryH Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Here are the system requirements for RCT3 off their website: Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP (Windows® XP recommended) Processor: Pentium® III 733 MHz or compatible (Pentium® 4 1.2 GHz or compatible recommended) Memory: 128 MB RAM; 256 MB for XP (256 MB; 384 MB for XP recommended) Hard Disk Space: 600 MB free CD-ROM Drive: 4X CD-ROM or faster (8X or faster recommended) Video:Any ATI Radeon™ or GeForce™ 2 with 32MB or higher; or other video card with 32MB and hardware T&L (ATI Radeon™ 64 MB SDR or GeForce™ 2 Pro or other video card with 64 MB or more memory and hardware T&L recommended)* Sound: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP-compatible 16-bit sound card* DirectX®: DirectX® version 9 (included) or higher I think you might be better off getting a desktop computer and perhaps adding in a pretty decent soundcard. Unless you want to play RCT3 at work or on an airplane, a desktop might be more cost effective and give you more than a notebook.
USRoadTripper Posted November 26, 2005 Author Posted November 26, 2005 Well, I was at Circuit City at 5:00am this morning, and I am very glad I had decided against the computer before I got there! It was shoulder to shoulder in the laptop area, and no doubt they sold out of them within minutes. Can you imagine tha hassle of trying to signup all those people for AOL on the spot  And yeah, if I'm gonna invest any money at all into a new computer, I want it to at least be able to play RCT3 and Sims2. If it won't do that, there is no need for me to upgrade, as far as I am concerned. -Julie
DRWP2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I was stupid enough to take my little brother to Best Buy to try and get him the desktop, and I got their at 2:30...they opened at 5 and the line was like already over 300 people long. Needless to say, I didn't get the computer, but found out that the people in the front of the line had camped out over night, and got at the store at 7 PM Thanksgiving day, and slept in tents on the concrete. It was about 15 degrees when I got there at 2:30 so I have no idea how could it possibly could have been in the middle of the night like that...Plus it was extremenly wind which didn't help the matter. Some people are just crazy...
benzo41190 Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 That is why I always have everything sent to me. I hate going to stores and standing in lines.
