EpcotLova Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I am looking at graduate programs around the southeastern part of the US. I want to get my MA and Ph.D possibly in English. Would you recommend University of Florida. I know my Gamecocks play them in sports every year, but I dont know much about the school. Any input would be awesome. Thank you!!!
Erik Johnson Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 While I am not a UF graduate, I believe its a highly ranked school. Plus you get to live in Gainesville which is only 114miles away from Islands of Adventure. Anyways check out this link for a prety cool event that occurs every year on UF campus. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19502
larrygator Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 The only downside I could see students having is which large class sizes and parking on campus. Some of the the required/more popular classes can be in auditoriums with 200-500 students. Personally, I never needed a teacher to know my name to do well so it didn't bother me. But I only had, at most, one of those classes a semester. Since you are going for graduate level classes that shouldn't be a factor. Although the school is in Florida it still has southern charm and everyone is very friendly. I only preface that because some parts of Florida are like suburbs of Northern US cities. It's an extremely affordable city. Like any city with have and have nots, crime can be a problem in certain parts of town.
memphish Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 What do a FSU student and a UF student have in common? They were both accepted to UF. *Go Noles*
SharkTums Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 What did the FSU grad say to the UF grad? "Would you like fries with that?" Go Gators... Anyways, I'm not sure about the English Grad program, I would look it up on some sites and magazines. As for Class size, it's all what you make of it. I had very few HUGE classes, partly because of the honors program, and partly because of selection. If you're coming in as a Grad student, I don't think class size will be an issue to begin with. As for the area, I liked it a lot. Not very Florida like, and a nice college town where there's weather, but not scary weather! Plus there's great food and two huge airports 2 hours away so travel is easy.
