Token Yankee Guy Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) So today when I was driving home from work, I got off I-95 South and was making a right onto Broadway when I see up the road what looks to be smoke. At first I thought it was coming from Governor's Resturant, but it turned out to be a house on broadway on fire. When I got closer I saw the signage for Fireman Training Area, so that means that it was a controlled fire and the fire department had the honor in destorying the house. So I hurried back to campus, grabbed my camera and went back and took a ton of pictures. Once the entire first floor was virtually gone, I was able to get closer. Closest I got was 6ft. Now onto the pictures Firetruck backing into the driveway, looks like they'll be hosing it down in a few. But I didn't see it happen since I was already freezing. Fireman throwing some wood into the basement Another look at the basement Check out the smoke! Thank goodness we had our backs to the wind the entire time, nor did the wind change direcitons. Back that bus up, part of the wall collapsed Closer look at the basement, you can see the furnace straight ahead, and in the right hand corner of the basement you can see a lonely flame. Yeah, that's coming from the open pipe into the oil tank! I think there was little or no oil left in the tank Wheres the chimney!, that's right, I didn't get a picture of it falling since I was in the process of slipping on some mud! Oh well, there was another person taking pictures and she said she'll send me the picture that she got of the chimney falling. The chimney is the tallest structure of what's left of the house It's one of those, "I saw it happen." pictures Wow, the fire got to something very flammable! Fireman trying to push down that one stubborn corner This fire sure is giving off a lot of smoke. North wall still going down Wow, Big flame. That can only mean that part of the floor collapsed. Looking at the north side of the house, you can see it's itching to fall down Part of the backwall went down The interior studs went down between the time I passed the house and when I got back to the site Here I am on the opposite side of Broadway to get a closer look From across the street. This house was surrounded by commercial lots for a long time. The property was even up for sale for commercial use Looking down Broadway from where I parked my car Edited October 31, 2005 by Token Yankee Guy
dandaman Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Pretty long hose those firemen have got! Well, I've met the TPR quota for the day.
Guest Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 What? No pictures of the hot firefighters? NOT FAIR! I LOVEEEEEEEE fire! Katie
Token Yankee Guy Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 ^ Sorry Katie, looks like you'll have to settle by looking at their asses. I also don't know why I didn't ask for a group pic, that would have been cool. Craiggers "The Firefighters were hot btw" K.
Stitch Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I love your picture of you in front of the fire, too bad you didn't get a "I saw the fire and all I got was this T-Shirt" shirt
Hattuchili Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Wow, great pictures, Craig. I have never seen a fire in a house! However, was it okay for the fireman, that you made all the pictures? --Sören
Token Yankee Guy Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 ^ There was another person that was taking pictures so they didn't care. The only thing they didn't want us to do was get extremely close due to the heat. But even at 6ft we were fine due to the wind direction and stuff. And the pictures I got where you are able to look into the basement were done by me simply putting my camera over my head.
CoasterCrazy Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I love Fire! I also like controlled explosions(rides like Jaws at USF) and firework shows.
Token Yankee Guy Posted October 29, 2005 Author Posted October 29, 2005 Little update about the house. I drove down Broadway tonight to get gas (2.34/gallon!) at the Mobil, and when I drove by, smoke was still rising from the ashes, and when I was at the gas station (About 1/4mile down the road) I could smell the burning wood.
Token Yankee Guy Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 New Photos: I finally got the photos from Donna who I gave my e-mail too since she was the one that managed to get the picture of the chimney falling. So here I am to share some of the pictures she sent me.
Hattuchili Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Wow, that looks awesome, Craig! Thanks for posting! --Sören
