beenagins87 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I have a question about the flash pass system, I know gold cuts your time 50% and Platinum 90%, but how do they get the times down?? For example, If you have a gold and it shows the ride being ready in 15 minutes, then that means the line is 30 minutes, but how do they determine that the line is 30 mins??
SharkTums Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 They are supposed to get updates throughout the day from the operations department and set the flashpass accordingly. It's not always exactly right, but we've used regular, gold, and platinum many times and it syncs up close enough that I'm happy.
aCoasterStory Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Keep in mind, though, that your actual wait time will vary greatly depending on the merge point & actual ride operations. While some rides dump you at the exit platform and others just dump you straight into the station, some merge a decent while before the station, so the entire line might be 60-90mins, but the merge point can still be 20 mins back from getting on the ride, so you wait 30-45 mins with your gold pass and then check in and wait another 20 mins in line. All parks/rides are different in how they handle that. I know at SFOG most dump you right into the station (Scorcher, Goliath, Mindbender, Superman, Cyclone), but some take you up the exit platform (Batman, DDD, GASM). Not sure about Ninja or Mine Train. But again, every SF park is different. I want to say SFStL had a bunch that dumped you straight on the exit platform. Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast comes to mind--I got to essentially marathon that right before closing when I visited a couple years ago bc my gold FP kept letting me reserve with 0 wait, so I'd get off, re-reserve, hand it to the guy to scan, and jump right back on the train I just got out of (only in empty seats that the GP weren't filling--I'm not a heartless tool). That was a super fun night. I will say, though, I've had platinum passes before (at another park) and had to wait over 30 mins in line for a ride because the merge point was that far back from the station. (That was a *very* frustrating day, btw.)
