PhishyBrewer Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I want to use the songs I purchased from iTunes in the movies I make. But it doesn't seem to work. I can't convert them to MP3's. Am I screwed?
Wes Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 ^ Sorta. Apple's Protected AAC format bars you from using the file in a video making program (unless that program is iMovie). However, there are programs that will let you rip the audio stream. Check this link out, it lists a few programs that you can use: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1727321,00.asp
coaster1 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Easiest way to to burn the iTunes songs to cd in CD Format, then import them as MP3.
PhishyBrewer Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 hmm... I'll have to try that. Thanks!
DisWiz Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Actually there is a way within iTunes. Just go up edit>>preferences, then click on the advanced tab, and within that the importing tab. Now switch where it says Import Using: (usually should say AAC Encoder) , just switch it to MP3. Now close that, and go to the song you want to convert, right-click on that song, and there is a convert selection option. Click on that, and it will now convert your song from AAC to MP3, the new songs pops up in the recently added list. And for a quick way of finding it, right-click on the new song, and go to get info, and at the bottom of that new box it says where this file is located. Go find it, and move it where you want, and have a great day! Also, when you convert it, it doesn't delete the old file, so you'll have the original and the new converted file. Hope that makes sense, took me forever to figure out how to do it.
PhishyBrewer Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Wow... another thing for me to try. Thanks! TPR is such great place!
Wes Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 ^^ That won't work. It won't allow Protected AACs (.m4p) to be converted. Also, burning to a CD and then re-importing will result in some loss in audio quality. The best way is to use my method, even though it's the trickiest.
PhishyBrewer Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 ^So are there any shareware programs? Or do I need to fork out $36 for one of these programs. Thanks Wes!
Teddymonster Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 That's weird...I never knew that Itunes formated its songs that way. Will CDex work you? http://www.download.com/3000-2140-10226370.html
WillMontu Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Of course, you can do it the old school way and get it off of Kazaa. It's not 100% legal, but since you already 'own' the file, you might be okay.
DATman Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 If you downloaded the song off itunes, burn it on a CD, then import it after changin the settings to import it as an mp3. That is what i've done before
