Soda or Pop?

I'm a soda drinker. I live in southeastern PA almost on the border of PA and NJ.

Up here in the Great White North it is POP. When we drink Soda that means Club Soda. That way when I ask for a "soda with lime", I get club soda with lime wedges. I used to drink scotch and soda and then realized the pleasures of 12 year old single malt straight up.

 

I think it is a regional thing though. I remember going to the lobby of a hotel in Washington, DC and asking the guy at the desk to get change for the "pop machine". He looked at me and asked if I was from the mid-west? Told him where I was from and he figured that we Canadians were like mid-westerners.

I'm from pittsburgh, and yes most of us call it "pop" instead of soda....I have relatives that moved from California last year, they say "soda"

 

My mom covers all the bases: she calls it "soda pop."

 

I call it soda. That's what it is, like it or not. Where did they get the term "pop" anyway? That sounds...stupid.

Well Like it or not, it was Revolutionized as "Pop" down here in Pittsburgh, you're not from here so you wouldn't have a clue. It doesn't really matter what some poeple call it.....Both terms are right, they never really made an offical name for pop/soda drinks......Live it, Like it, Love it!
