imawesome1124 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 It's that time of year again. My dad and I have gone to this car show every year for the past 5 years. We've been to other shows in the area, but this is the best in SOMD. The only rule for entering a car in the show is it must be at least 25 years old. Over the years I've seen cars in the show going back to as early as 1909. There's some great cars every year, but unlike some previous years, none particularly stood out as a "wow you" car. Still, the overall quality was in my opinion better than last year's, which can be found here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62262&hilit=Southern+Knights+Car+Show On to this year's pictures: There are always many good cars not even in the show, like this one. Once we're through the gate, the first car that catches my attention is this Impala. The interior of said Impala. I'm not a fan of yellow on a car, but this works because of the flames. Also not a fan of green on cars. This is a decent shade though. Don't see many old school Alfa Romeos. This was one of the coolest ones from the show. I bet that engine is LOUD! This was the second oldest car from the show. This was the oldest. Note the wooden body. NEVER drive this car in the rain. That looks like one of the most uncomfortable interiors ever developed. This was one of the nicest Corvettes at the show. "You gotta drive the miles to get the smiles." Words to live by. Except for the yellow, everything is airbrushed. Don't think a caption's needed here. I really liked the paint job on this one. This was a pretty nice interior. I usually don't care for baby blue, but this Thunderbird looked pretty nice. The T-Bird's interior. The Mustang is probably my favorite muscle car. I like it when people get trailers to match their cars. I saw a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud last year and didn't think I would see another one. I was wrong. The interior actually has built-in trays for the rear seats. The dashboard is pretty elegant, too. Again, I only like certain shades of green. This is one of them. This was a neat paint job. The interior was nice too. While not my favorite shade of red, this Mustang is nice. Showing the Camaro some love. Interior. (I know, the caption sucked) Red and black is my favorite color combination. The ghost flames on this were subtle but nice. A Hudson Hornet. Another fairly rare car. Perfect example of a classic flame job. The Maverick must be making a comeback. Last year we saw one and we saw the same one the year before. This year we saw at least 4. Yeah, this is my favorite shade of red. That's it for Part 1! Part 2 will begin with a piece of history possibly worth six-digits.
molemaster43 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Great TR, Brian. There are a lot of really neat cars there that I've never seen before. I hope you post Part Two!
TPDave Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Some fantastic cars there. I'd love to own a 50s hot rod pickup truck some day, probably not the most practical thing but it'd be the most unique thing in the car park! Thanks for sharing
imawesome1124 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Time for Part 2. This part will feature possibly the greatest flame job I've seen, one of the smallest cars in the world, and I'll start with a survivor. A Monte Carlo that has NEVER been restored or modified. The sign says it all! This kind of car in the shape it's in should be considered a treasure. I mean, just look at it. It's immaculate! There is not a scratch, dent, or imperfection of any kind to be found on this car! Same goes for the interior. Flawless! Just over 17k miles on the original engine. How much would a car like this be worth? Enough gawking over that car, time to move on. This Bel-Air is in very nice condition. Orange is my least favorite color for a car, but the pearl-like paint of this, along with the black racing stripes, make it look very nice. Big engine. Yeah, that's about it. Sorry for the blurriness, but the paint job on this is very well-done. Closer look at it. The flame-job on this is BAD-@$$! Probably my favorite flame-job ever. I've only seen a few Cobras in my life, this was the only one at the show. This is a four-seater car. It is no more than 54" tall, 36" wide, and 60" long. Note the size of the parking space compared to the car itself. These trucks have made a couple appearances over the years. Check out the tires of the one on the left, that could get to some difficult blazes. This is the first old Fairlane I've seen. I would've preferred different colors, but it's still nice. Sorry for the blurriness. This show always has a small bike section of between 10-20 bikes. There were only 2 that stood out this year, this was one of them. The other one had some outstanding paint. Close-up of the paint on the fuel-tank. Again, sorry for the blurriness. Close-up of the other section of paint. This was a different bike. It was fairly standard apart from the seat stitching, which was rather cool. This car is just pure dragster all the way. I did a good job of controlling my urge to take as many Mustang pictures as possible. This one stood out from the others in a way I can't put my finger on. This is probably my favorite shade of blue for a car. Probably the most bad@$$ a wagon will ever be. The underside of this hood(bonnet for Europeans) was completely chromed so it was practically a mirror. Very... interesting paint job for a Beetle. I really liked this interior. The dash. We saw the most well-preserved, this was the most well-customized of the show. This picture doesn't show it at all, but from a certain angle the reflection of the sun was BLINDING off this grill. You've seen flame-jobs for paint, what about for the steering wheel? Or the rearview mirror? I felt the rims were worthy of their own picture. This was the most unique piece at the show. An armored personnel carrier with some crazy airbrush work. Taz has a shotgun. Back away slowly... Despite the paint, it is still definitely a troop carrier. The iconic two-tone paint of the old Corvette. Classic. If you're going to paint a car purple, this is the shade to go with. That's all the car pictures I have! There was lots of other stuff that I didn't get pictures of: like a racing trailer full of model cars (I collect those), a stand raffling off a shifter-kart (They can do 0-100-0 faster than a Ferarri), and hands-down THE BEST hot-dogs I have EVER had! It's very easy to spend 2 and a half to 3 hours at this show. Hope you enjoyed!
mcjaco Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 My Grandfather had a Monte Carlo exactly like that except in Mint Green. I still remember the white vinyl top. I think it was his last Chevy, except for the 78 Nova my Grandmother drove. He then went over to Cadillacs from then on out....except the Buick he bought right before he passed away. Man, he loved big cars!
BeemerBoy Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Nice rides. Don't seem many old school Alfa Romeos. To be honest, you don't see many new ones either! As for the "interesting" paint job here, you know what it's based off of, right?
TPDave Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I love the stitching on that bike seat! Some more fantastic cars there, looks like a great event.
imawesome1124 Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 ^^ I honestly have no clue what that is supposed to be lol. I don't think I've ever seen that before. ^ It is a great event. I've been to better shows in the past, and the best one I didn't even think to bring a camera. In that show there was a '71 Camaro that actually had a marbled paint-job! The rest of the car was themed to spiders: There were chrome spiders on the speaker covers, spiderweb stitching in the seats, spiderweb pattern on the steering wheel, etc. I also have a link to last year's photos in the original post if you haven't already checked them out. There's some pretty good cars there too.
scbt Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 ^ It's the logo for the Grateful Dead Those are some pretty sweet cars. Nice TR.
