talonec
I would love to see a TPR Coaster/Theme Park Award..."Bucking Donkey Award"? I can see ESPN picking this up as a show...
gisco
^ I would venture to say that 99% of the GP don't know that the Golden Ticket award exists or even cares. They have strictly become a marketing tool by the park and even then its more "Oh, it won an award!" not anything more specific. Bingo! Totally unscientific poll, used for marketing. disneyfan1313
One thing that the Golden Ticket Awards suggest is that the voters prefer a "stuffed-full-of-awesome-coasters-and-thrill-rides" park experience over a "immerse-you-another-world-with-highly-detailed-theming" experience. I don't necessarily see anything wrong with that, and they're pretty different experiences so it's sort of hard to compare. I think most enthusiasts probably lean one way or the other. Anyway, all I'm saying is that the repeated result of Cedar Point beating out less "thrilling" parks that have elaborate theming which completely immerses you shows that more Golden Ticket voters are fans of thrill over other factors, which I think its perfectly valid. Their taste in coasters, however, seems pretty questionable lol. I disagree - it really isn't that valid. If it were the "Thrill Ride Awards" put on by "Thrill Ride Monthly" then yes. But these are awards that are supposedly based around the ENTIRE industry and should be keeping up with trends and what guests actually want.... not 30 enthusiasts in Ohio. Don't forget the ad sales part! It also helps Amusement Today sell all the "congratulations" ads!
