1pizza14
I will be visiting NYC this easter weekend (2012) and will be staying near times square for 4 nights. I need a few advice tips/cool things to see in order to make the best of our first trip to New York. Firstly, will Coney Island/Cyclone/Wonderwheel be open easter weekend? I looked on Luna Park's site but they appear to be closed. Is the Cyclone/Wonderwheel owned separately? Also how hard is it to get to Coney Island by subway? We were thinking of going to Lambardi's Pizza but what other great/cool/interesting restaurants are there to check out? Also what are some must see attractions (besides Empire State Building, Statue Of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall). Thanks for your help!
beatle11
Not sure if the rides will be open, but it's really easy to get to on the subway. I believe the D, F, N and Q trains all make their final stop there. Oh... and this: http://www.scottspizzatours.com/
robbalvey
Oh... and this: http://www.scottspizzatours.com/ HIGHLY recommend Scott's Pizza Tour! And pizza is in your screen name, so you gotta do it!
dbucknyc
The Cyclone is currently operated by Luna Park and traditionally opens on Palm sunday, and is open every weekend there after until the summer season starts. Luna Park, and The Scream Zone should also be open. All of them are also open the week of passover (as NYC schools are closed) which is April 6-14th this year. The Wonder Wheel is run by a different operator but should also be open each of these days.
larrygator
^Are you sure Luna Park is still opening Palm Sunday weekend? I know that has always been the tradition but there's no mention on the website at this time. http://www.lunaparknyc.com/calendar-a-events/interactive-calendar.html?view=calendar&year=2012&month=

I think I am going to go to Coney Island just to see the beach/sideshow attractions and the Nathans. Thanks for the help so far
larrygator
Make sure you stop here also. It's only 2 blocks from the Coney Island subway station. http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/totonno-pizzeria-napolitano/ Edited January 27, 2012 by larrygator
dbucknyc
On site posters imply that the parks will open in April, and as I recall, the calendar on the Luna Park web site did not list last years opening weekend until mid March. I would check the calendar again in March, but I think the chances are good that the park will be open Easter Weekend. http://www.flickr.com/photos/theoccasionalfag/sets/72157629089571405/with/6785294797/

You are 100% correct the original poster should check the Luna Park wesbite closer to his time in New York to confirm opening.

ginzo
http://www.thehighline.org/ It's pretty close to where you are staying, unique to NYC, very cool, and free.
