Noob Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hello Everyone! I am looking into buying a specific wooden Wild Mouse coaster and restoring it - the task is not going to be easy, cheap and is going to take a while! However, I thought other people may be interested in this process so I decided to post a thread on TPR for the first time. I would love any ideas surrounding the project - what things would you wish a coaster operator/owner would do? How should I market it?....Have some fun! I truly would appreciate your thoughts no matter how wild they may be. At this stage, or until certain things are underway, I will keep the location and specific coaster (etc) secret - but all will be revealed! However, it will be wood, and trim breaks don't exist in my eyes Oh yeah, there will be free rides for Club TPR members of course if all goes to plan.
DirkFunk Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Assuming you are serious, it'll have to go somewhere that's high visibility and probably be grouped with an assortment of other low cost, easy to manage attractions to probably be profitable. That or call up a *BIG* fairground - someone in the top half of the 50 fairs on MCW - and ask them if you can erect the mouse there and operate it as a independent vendor. Plenty of state fairs still do that with permanent skyrides and giant slides. A couple have done it into this decade with coasters. Its a tough sell but not impossible.
RollerCoasterSmi Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 So you are buying it on your own and restoring it on your own (I presume). If you are doing this I take my hat off to you, you have a choice of two Indonesian or two Australian ones (you are not taking the Blackpool one, I love that ride), unless you are buying a dismantled one? I rememember reading on another forum somewhere there was a mouse to purchase from Australia fo $50000 so I think you might have a little plausability. I don't know how to respond to this, but if you are going ahead keep it classic and simple...
ILoveRides Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 If you haven't talked to him yet, try getting in touch with Prince Desmond. He probably has all the info you need. This thread has the potential to be epic.
robbalvey Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I gotta be honest here - who are you? What park are you with? What experience do you have in the amusement park industry? And what experience do you have restoring and building wooden coasters? Let alone a wooden Wild Mouse? Look, if I didn't know any better, this kind of sounds like someone trolling this forum. Why don't you come back with an actual "plan" and give us details, and then we'll see if this is an effort worthy of getting behind. This sounds waaaaay too much like something we all went through last year...and we all saw how well that panned out...If I sound skeptical, that's because I am. I've witnessed all of about *maybe* five wooden roller coasters get successfully re-located in the past 20 years. That's not a very good track record. And when someone wants to keep details a "secret", sorry pal, I can't support that.... --Robb "If I had a dollar for every person who said they were going to buy an old, defunct wooden coaster, and re-open it...I'd have at least five bucks." Noob Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Don't worry Blackpool is safe from me I just wish they would give it a coat of paint! I can only give you my word at this stage that I am not trolling - be skeptical I would be too, just wanted to get the thread going for further updates. I will give details in the coming months if all goes to plan i.e. securing a site. Thanks for the comments so far, like I said, I do appreciate them
andre8 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 You really plan on restoring a wooden wild mouse? I'm sorry, but I just can't really take you seriously.
robbalvey Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I'm sorry, TPR cannot support a project like this with no plan, without revealing any details, or even who you are. When you have specifics on the project, and you want to share details, that's fine. But until then, I can't keep a thread open for a vaporware project that is being kept in secrecy. Thread closed. --Robb
