simon8899 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 (edited) The carnival layout has been released. For me this summer is a mixed bag as there are... 3 coasters: The indoor Höllenblitz, a Wilde Maus (wild mouse) and the Schwarzkopf double-loop Teststrecke. 2 waterrides: The log-flume Wildwasserbahn as well as the Atlantis Rafting ...but next to the Airwolf - which in my opinion has some quite rough movements - there are no major inversion rides. But at least the classic favorites like the Zierer Waveswinger and the Huss Frisbee and Breakdancer are there as always. Now all I can hope for is dry weather.... Stay tuned for pictures as the carnival opens this friday... carnival layout Edited August 17, 2011 by simon8899
alexinla Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 In Hamburg you go for the Reeperbahn. Although the ride there can be bumpy, most enjoy them quite a bit (Sorry, I just had to go there, but looking forward to the pictures)
Lamoure Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 In my opinion the Huss Top Spin and Mondial (?) Shaker are also great inversion-attractions The Huss Frisbee can be very mean, if you ride it late the op will nearly kill you !! Teststrecke is a great coaster! Ride it!
simon8899 Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 In Hamburg you go for the Reeperbahn. Yes, its right next door from the carnival....
alexinla Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 In Hamburg you go for the Reeperbahn. Yes, its right next door from the carnival.... Now we are talking,lol.... You should take some pics of it aswell(pg13 of course) as I dont think most Americans on TPR can even comprehend how "free" other countries are..
simon8899 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 First short - 2 hours - around the Dom as I had an early appointment today. But enough to get first rides and impressions..... I see Schwarzkopf loops..... looking good....but as this coaster was made in the looping frenzy in the late 70s / early 80s its not much more than two loops and two bayerncurves.....but perfect ones..... then onto a very wet log-flume - in germny widely known as Wildwasser (wildwater).... 20 meter drop......you get very wet at the end of this..... nice view before getting wet..... getting dry inside the DomDancer - on a very long and fast programm.... I see a mouse.... and some Autoscooter (bumber cars) opposite the mouse....you know you're getting old when the bumps hurt your back....but the music was excellent.....the ride ops here is more a DJ than a ride ops. this mouse is quite okay but must be an old one as the dispatch was manual.... Huss Frisbee.....way to go.....
simon8899 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Zierer swinging - no german carnival without it.... I spy a Hamburg first and a new credit: crazy Höllenblitz (Hell's Lightning) indoor-coaster in sight.... but before some swinging around.....and no "please don't rock the cars" like in the US.....man, these cars are made for rocking.... finally onto Höllenblitz....a crazy and quite fast lil indoor coaster at 80 kph with spinning cars....made by Stein Engineering which later became Gerstelauer. The indoor part is a fenzy of lasers and waves of LEDs pulsating in all colours....feels like on LSD..... This Huss Take-Off right next to Höllenblitz is truely insane. The compartments spin at incredible speeds creating high Gs - at max speed breathing was hard. I never get tipsy-turvy but this had me running circles after getting out. Had to do it three times..... And then another ride on Höllenblitz.....but not before sampling some good bavarian beer at one of the beer-stands..... Airwolf looming behind a harmless kiddie-ride. Airwolf - named after the TV-series - with hard shakes and turns as always. It's roumored that this will be its last year on the carnivals... Funny darkride with living ghosts - meaning actors - inside. Now this what we call an Afterburner, this one named KongaXXL - 45 meters high.....two riders puked after getting out....poor lil kids..... And yes: the ride attendants were wearing old-style safari outfits.... finally another ride on Teststrecke..... Love the same-sized loops back to back - the first with really intense Gs as another is comming. The second with near weightlessness as the train slows going up the loop. After the loop and first bayerncurve the track goes between the two loops narrowly - one man in the car before more broke his hand as he was holding out his arms sideways.....well, a stupid idea abviously. But holding your arms straight up in the loops is highly recommended....
A.J. Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Those trains on TestStrecke don't look like Schwarzkopf trains. Do you have any photos close-up of the trains?
SoCalCoasters Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Those trains on TestStrecke don't look like Schwarzkopf trains. Do you have any photos close-up of the trains? I believe those trains are Zerier made. After Dorney sold Laser (Test Track) the company bought new trains.
redmenace8 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Nice pictures, love seeing European Funfairs/Kirmes. I was wondering if you gave Konga a try, I've always wondered how much more intense the XXL's are compared to the far more common Afterburner model. I've been hoping one of our American ride companies would get one, but I don't know if the weight, size of the transports would be an issue, let alone the cost.
A.J. Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 It certainly looks massive. Might not even be legal for trailer travel in the US. I completely forgot the old Dorney Park Laser was traveling again. I wonder why the trains were replaced.
simon8899 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 I rode the KongaXXL and was a fun ride for me.....but next time they should place it next to the log-flume to get dry from the wind.... The XXL is made by netherlands KMG and is transported on 3 trailers. On KMGs website you can see one trailer and how the ride is folded for transport: http://www.kmg.nl/kmg/factory/xxl_en.html# - it should be no problem for european streets. Plus many rides are transported long-distance (100+ kilometers) by train here. Here we've Teststrecke on a train: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=238164102880204&set=a.238163912880223.70454.165091500187465&type=1&ref=nf - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=238164186213529&set=a.238163912880223.70454.165091500187465&type=1 Yes, the Teststrecke trains were made by Zierer as the refurbishment of the old trains would've been as expensive. I think the new trains are okay, running smoothly and very silent.
simon8899 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 pics from my second visit: Ferris Wheel from the entry station - one of the biggest portable "Riesenrad" (Giants Wheel) in the world noted! KongaXXL View over the whole fairground. The grey squat building on the right is a WWII above-ground air-raid bunker - well as you see it survived the bombs and today houses a music-club in the basement and artist lofts. I see loops.... Airwolf wolfing around Log-flume ride. Also one of the worlds biggest portable ones - with a 21 meter drop. As we were on the wheel a Teststrecke train was stuck inside one of the three final brakes - the malfunctioning brake was taken out of service with the auxilliary brake doing the job. A whole lotta shaking going on.... Queen Mary 2 in hamburg port... Swingey 1: I love the programs they do here in germany - I did one of these at Belmont park and it was so slow and boring.... Swingey 2 View from the log-flume.... Whoooooosh The new Zierer-made Teststrecke train on the lift Shoulder-free loopin' around Braking - as one of the brakes was out of service the slowing down was nearly B&M smooth... Highflyer View from the Highflyer....
