kdt511 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) I'll be in Japan on business in early June. I'll only have 1 day (probably only half a day, really), to do 'sight-seeing'. For me, that'll be riding some coasters. I'm up for traveling an hour or 2 away if I need to. Fuji-Q Highlands would be my first choice, but it seems to be about 3 hours from Tokyo, by train. I'm leaning towards LaQua so I can ride Thunder Dolphin. Is there something I'm overlooking; a park that I should be going to instead? Thanks in advance. Any other non-coaster related Japan advice? I'm pretty terrified of the culture shock, and not looking forward to a 16 hour flight. Edited April 27, 2011 by kdt511
SharkTums Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Tokyo is awesome, you'll have a ton of fun and be ready to go back before you leave. If you only have half -3/4 of a day there's really no way to go out to FujiQ as it's at least two hours from Tokyo. LaQua is still closed following the death on the Spinning Mouse back in January. If you're a Disney fan at all you HAVE to go to the Disney Parks. If you haven't been on an Intamin Megalite I would recommend Tobu Zoo. If you want a bunch of credits I would recommend Yomiuriland. Cool night time scenery - Yokohama Cosmoworld. Advice? Don't be scared. Learn a bit of Japanse, be polite and respectful and you'll have a blast!
kdt511 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks Elissa. Yomiuriland looks like Togo Land, so I'm gonna pass on that. I haven't had enough exposure to US Disney, so I don't think Tokyo Disney would do it for me. Not saying I don't believe you, but I can't find a single thing online that says Tokyo Dome City (LaQua) is closed... Leaves me with: Tobu Zoo Park or Yokohama Cosmoworld.
SharkTums Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 ^There's tons of stuff online about it. Here's the official word from the park: http://www.tokyo-dome.jp/pdf/important/oshirase110130.pdf

BarryH Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Personally, I'd do Tokyo DisneySea. It's the pinnacle of what a theme park should be.
mattnz Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Good advice Elissa! I've just hijacked it and passed it on to some friends who are visiting Tokyo next week. All those parks look easy to access by train and they're keen to get to a few parks while they're there. So thanks!!
kdt511 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Why do people waste our time? --Robb "Like, we're here to help, not lie to you or make s**t up..." Alvey I simply wanted to be able to read about the closure myself, and be able to follow the story in case it reopens by June...but I guess if it's anything like Steel Dragon, it's gonna be closed for awhile. -Kevin "wishes Robb wasn't a meanie" Toth
SharkTums Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 ^Robb's not mean, he's busy. It's frustrating when people second guess us about stuff we know. You should take it as a compliment that he actually took the time to respond to you!

SharkTums Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 ^You're just reinforcing why Robb and I get so frustrated with all of you guys! Seriously, is there a reason you posted? I did nothing but help the original poster and now Robb and I are the bad guys? No thanks.

You should take it as a compliment that he actually took the time to respond to you! But his comment was to say that Kevin was wasting his time? How can he compliment that? Wasting our time in that we've already been doing tons of research on Japan to begin with and we took time out to respond and answer his request only to have him question the validity of our response. I don't think most of you have any concept of the sheer amount of time everything we do for this site, my "day job", and my family actually takes up. And yet we continue to respond to every email, every PM, and as many posts on the forum as we can possibly get to. So when someone second guesses what we write, I can only throw my hands up in the air, and say to myself "Why the F**K do we even bother to help these people?!?!?" Perhaps it was the way the original poster wrote it, and they didn't mean it to come off like they were second guessing, I dunno, but it provoked a response out of both of us, and we don't get frustrated with people for no reason. And if that response isn't good enough for you - find another site to annoy the admins of. Thank you. --Robb "Just stopped writing an email to Six Flags Over Texas about our Texas Giant event to respond to this post..." Alvey Edited April 27, 2011 by robbalvey
robbalvey Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I did nothing but help the original poster and now Robb and I are the bad guys? No thanks. THIS! That's all that needs to be said. Seriously, if you cannot appreciate what Elissa and I do to help all of you... FIND ANOTHER THEME PARK SITE TO POST TO!!! I challenge you to find another similar site where the admins are as knowledgeable AND will take the time out to help you. You won't find it. It doesn't exist.
