On Friday afternoon (8/26), I got to Gurnee after going through very heavy traffic in downtown Chicago. The hotel was so close that we (Me, my sister, my sister's boyfriend, my mom, and my dad) walked over to the park.

On Saturday (8/27), we went to Great America and we got there at opening time (10:00 CDT). If you've ever been to SFGAm, you will have noticed that at least one in ten people in the park were either black and/or obese. Boy, was it crowded! The first coaster was:

Whizzer (#35)

Whizzer had around a 15 minute wait. My mom was waiting for the big drop, but it never came. (I sat on my mom!) After that, we went to:

Viper (#36)

OH MY GOD! This is as good as Shivering Timbers. My only gripe is the not-very-orderly waiting procedure. (See Magnum line to imagine what I'm talking about.) We all got ejector air time on this ride. We then queued up for:

Raging Bull (#37)

This is a very good coaster, probably the best at Great America. Signs say that the front row closes prior to all other rows and that the front row will be waiting a lot longer than rows 2-9.

Then, my sister, her boyfriend, and I queued up for Giant Drop. We ended up sitting next to a retarded man. It feels like you're going to slam into the ground until the brakes kicked in.

Then I ran up the queue for River Rocker and sat next to a little kid. I didn't puke on the ride. Then, Dad and I headed for:

Demon (#38)

This is a fun little coaster. This is like Corkscrew @ Cedar Point + extra loop + tunnels - corkscrews over midway. Then it was time for lunch.

After lunch, we all headed for:

American Eagle Forwards (#39)

American Eagle is like Mean Streak meets Shivering Timbers. The queue was around one hour for an overrated ride. Next on the list was:

Iron Wolf (#40)

Mom stayed off this coaster and Dad had to leave because he couldn't fit. (Good move Mom for staying off this ride!) The worst B&M ever! I call this VPSE, which stands for Very Primitive Swiss Engineering. TAER IRON WOLF DOWN!

Batman: the Ride (#41)

Dad didn't fit, but Mom and the rest of the gang rode Batman. It is my favorite inverted coaster. After that, we left for the night.

We came back the following morning (8/28) and got in line for:

Superman: Ultimate Flight (#42)

Everyone fit on this ride comfortably. I thought I was going to fall out of the ride. Did you see the amount of personal belongings on the brake run?

Then we headed back to Viper and Raging Bull, then went to the NASCAR show, and then Dad and I rode the Sky Trek Tower.

We left for dinner and came back at around 6:00 (minus Dad) and Mom and I headed towards Demon, only to find it closed. So, we went in line for:

Deja Vu (#43)

Quite good for a Vekoma coaster. Not much headbanging. The boarding procedure was very good.

Fun Fact:

We waited longer for Iron Wolf and American Eagle than for Deja Vu.

Closed Rides:

Ice Mountain Splash: Both days

Vertical Velocity: Both days

Scenic Railway Hometown Station: Both days

Trailblazer: Sunday morning

Stargate SG-3000: Sunday

Demon: Sunday afternoon

Condor: Sunday morning

Splash Water Falls: Sunday morning

American Eagle Backwards: Saturday and Sunday morning

Rumors:

Vertical Velocity won't be back next year.

Iron Wolf won't be back next year.

Actually, American Eagle is probably one of the most underrated rides- it's simply amazing in the front car, and good in other cars. People give it awful ratings for no reason.

In addition, both of rumors are false. Iron Wolf won't be going anywhere. It got a train refurbished last off-season and recieved a new safety sign. V2 got struck by lightning, and they are currently are fixing it. (A bunch of the electric parts were fried.)

Those who were at the park with the Alvey's a few weeks back will be pleased to know that the condom is still present on the brake run (rode it yesterday 8-30). Can't be sure that it's the same condom; though if it is, someone should use it before it's no longer any good.

I also have to agree with pvcoasterguy's comments about American Eagle. I think that it is a pretty great coaster - considering its age. Although yesterday it was running very poorly .. shuffling, and squealing through-out the entire course. A real shame..
