Now obviously I don't really mean it as harsh as it sounds, but sometimes you just gotta put the smack down on these kids. Hopefully that will make them shape up a bit. Otherwise, if not...goodbye!

Wasn't he discussing his own exchange site or something using our chat room?

Dotrobot has been a huge issue (to me personally, not necessairly to the site) in the past. When I was still able to update the RLP chain (RedLine Park thread) I had several issues with him being not only rude, but comparing me as being a rank-amateur with no experience, and then decided that I needed his help to make my parks better. (Note: that's a personal NOT a 'TPR Games Forum' issue- but this does feed into it.)

TLM asked me recently how to setup a private 'chatroom' within chat- to which I responded that only Robb or Elissa could do that. In addition, Coupon was pushing for this new 'forum' in chat recently. I asked him (and the others) to stop self-promoting it within chat, and he did stop- as did the people he was associating with at the time (I've not seen any of them back on TPR since).

NE is going to be an issue here with so many people cross-utilizing TPR and NE. We did get a lot of people from NE downloading TPR Challenge I, as we did from TPR itself; I did a static count of downloads at the end of the play round and it totaled 76 people.

To be fair, it's not all the NE people I'm concerned about. But there are a few 'bad apples' that are coming into TPR and possibly ruining the fun for others; and still there's this breakaway faction of players that are/have been using TPR as a jumping board from there. Where I see the biggest issue is the NE people who are the bad apples trying to force their opinions into TPR, and potentially corrupting the system we've setup; thus why I'm tending to keep a tight eye on things.

Anyone that's been here long enough knows I have no patience for the NE crowd. They're friggin' games, for crying out loud. Get over yourself.

That being said, I've banned Coupon once before as well, due to some incredible language and bickering in chat. We may need to police chat more frequently, as I don't (and I'm sure Robb doesn't either) it to turn into the land of misfit game idiots.

NE= New Element, a website dedicated to that game... "Pretty Building and Scenery Tycoon" - (J/K- to a degree)

As for policing chat- already being done to a degree; Since I'm working from home for the next few weeks, I'm popping in rather randomly dayside- and of course, in the evenings.

^ Gotcha. That's right. I've seen that site before.

Here's my perspective on it...

I don't care about NE because TPR isn't trying to be NE. Our Game Exchange is a great feature that is part of a much bigger site. TPR is not a "roller coaster video game website", but we have a great amount of people who are into it, so we offer that as an additional feature. It's the same way that CoasterTube isn't trying to be YouTube, but it's a feature that brings great support to the overall site.

I had always felt like our games forum was "missing something", and the Game Exchange totally fulfills that.

I think a lot of these people assume we are trying to be NE, and that's just not the case.

Our members can absolutely use a track they posted to NE in one of our contests. Why? Because I don't care about NE. And if people choose to use our games forum and exchange over NE... GREAT! But that's not really my goal.

Now a site like coastercrazy.com or ThrillNetwork, that's probably closer in "competition" to what we are doing. They aren't totally dedicated to a specific game. They have a forum, and news section, photos, videos, and a roller coaster related game exchange. They also have creepy people and a weird attitude (oh, wait, we kind of have that too... *smile*), but they also don't have a certain level of professionalism or respect from both the amusement and video game industry. (meaning that they aren't getting called out by ride manufacturers to film their new rides or have Atari at bay helping them develop new games!) *that* is what I feel TPR has going for us.

The types of relationships I have in the industry are absolutely going to help our games forum and exchange rise above some of the others out there, like coastercrazy or the one at ThrillNetwork, but as far as trying to compete with NE or even the official No Limits exchange, it's just not something I'm interested in.

Sorry if this seemed bit random, or doesn't make any sense. Was just thinking about it and decided to dump my random thoughts....

It makes perfect sense to me, Robb- in every way. It's what I've been saying to people in chat when they try to compare TPR to NE; and I'm seeing a few people go "Oh, wait, that's right". It will take time to get the complete message through to all of our game players; and keeping us 'better' is the goal- at least to me. I want us to be as successful as possible, and dispelling the myth that we're trying to take over the marketplace is a good start. We are TPR, we are different, we are weird and bizarre. That's what makes TPR special- it's what makes our exchange special. Keeping it with the spirit and feel of TPR is my aim and goal- and I'll be hornswaggled if somebody tries to make it anything but that.

Robb said dump.

It's precisely why I'ver tried for the past few years to tell people to drop the NE comparisons. It's a game. Sit back, create, and enjoy any way you can. Life too short to be worked up over a game.

I've been a part of the "I don't give a [censored] about NewElement" crowd ever since I heard about them.

I have better things to do than spend three hours working on a single building in RCT2. Just sayin'.

It's ok. You can say I don't give a fuck in here!

NE isn't all that bad, I mean, I post there and they all seem to somewhat enjoy my work.

It's really all on how you take them. Every website forum have their jackass and dumb posters you know.

^ Just to make sure people understand where I'm coming from, when I say I don't care about NE, it's not that I think anything is wrong with the site, or the people that post there, I just simply don't care about it. And not in a negative way. It's in the same way I don't care about RCDB, even though I contribute photos to that site all the time.

And when I say "I don't care" I mean more "I don't care about what they do" because it doesn't affect us in the least bit. TPR isn't a 'roller coaster database' so RCDB can do whatever it is they do, make it freakin awesome, and their success or failure doesn't impact us one bit. Now, if RCDB started producing roller coaster POV videos, I *might* start to care.

Hope that makes sense.
