babycakes Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hi, I live in the UK. I was planning a trip to Cedar Point this September, but I just looked on their website and it is closed much of September during the week days. Why is this? I've never been before and want to go for 2 days to make the most of it. I see that it's open on 2nd and 3rd of September but 3rd is a Saturday. I am dubious about going on a weekend in case it's too over crowded! I'll probably only ever be able to go here once in my lifetime and want to make sure I get to go on everything and make the most of it. Please can you help me out! What is the best/least crowded times to go and can I get away with it in September?
SharkTums Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 You'll find in the US that almost all schools go back mid to late August which then results in nearly all of the parks going to Weekends only operation after Labor Day (first Monday in September). So you pretty much have no choice, but to hit CP on a weekend. I don't know when they start their halloween events but try to go BEFORE they start if possible.
Carnage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I think Halloweekends typically start in the third or 4th weekend in September. I've been to the park in September, and it's normally deserted. Just as long as you don't go labour day weekend you should be alright. Halloweekend saturday's can get really busy, though Halloweekend Sundays are normally deserted. Although the weather can start to get cool in September, so plan to dress warmly if need be.
babycakes Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks guys. So if I go before Halloween weekends and not on labour day, then a saturday and sunday should be pretty empty? What date is labour day?
babycakes Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 I may also now have the opportunity to go there the last week in August instead. What would be best, last week of August on a weekday or on a weekend in September? (providing it's not halloween or labour day)
ernierocker Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 What date is labour day? Labor Day is Monday, September 5th.

Last week of August, the schools may be back in. So it shouldn't be crazy busy. For what it's worth, I used to always go one of the September weekends between labour day and the halloween events, and always had a good time. It tends to be cool, but not cold, and the park isn't typically busy at all.
CoasterGuy06 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I can't speak for Cedar Point personally as my only trip was in May, but Labor Day is actually not a bad day to visit a park. Most people do other things rather than go to a park.

(providing it's not halloween or labour day) I've heard that since most Ohio schools are back in session, late-August would be a GREAT time to go.

I'm going mid-August with Ace of Spades, I went last year, same time, and the lines, etc were not bad at all!
