vuurvogel Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Hi All, In the last years I have build a nice archive of picture from parks and Attractions I have been. And I thought it would be nice to share them with you. So check back once in a while for new updates. Burgers First up: Archeon This park is build on the location of a former Roman Military Camp and has grown to a historical park where you can experience live in the stone/copper age, roman age and medieval times in the Netherlands. You can not only choose to go one day as a visitor, but also stay for a week, garments are included but beware you have to stay in character for the area you live in for that time. So no modern stuff for a week. It is a nice park where the employees that play the roles of peasant or soldier and tell you about the life of past era's actually live the whole season on site and in character. They are a nice source of information and let you participate in lots of activities. You can do a quick course Roman Garrison Marching or learn how to make fishing baskets. And a 101 different craftworks and skills. Highlight of the day are the Gladiator Fights. These are only half acted because they fight hard. I spoke to one of the Gladiators before the fight, and we talked about sword mastering. I train in Japanese sword skills and it was nice to compare it to the Roman sword techniques which are totally different. But the Gladiator told me that it was common in the fightshows to get injured. They use real weapons and bad things can happen. In a former year a gladiator lost an ear! But here are the pics. Medieval Town Some Details They have old Lifestock Races Ready for Harvest The Roman Bath Learn to make Mozaik This is where high Romans relax Opening of the Games Making sure no visitors escape Bam! Groteslurf Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Great report EB. Never been there, but always wondered what it was like. I should dig up my pictures from 'Land van Ooit' and make a TR about that park too.
vuurvogel Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Update: Avifauna This park is a birdpark. It has 3 main attractions and lots of other exhibits featuring birds. In the last few years they are really making an effort to dress up the park a bit. But in comparison to the park they have the best flight show I have ever seen. Difficult to take pictures (there are some) but they use 3 species of owls, 3 species of vultures, red macaws, small parakeets, eagles and to close the show an arial display of 4 brown kites doing near misses, glides and all kinds of aerobatics. But let the photographs speak for themselves. First up australia kookabura lori exhibit my brother being attacked by a gang of them I'm gonna get ya! next up cuba this is the only large building in the park with a bar outside during the summer wich serves as an entrence to the cuban exhibit which is quite big lots of pink birds in here smaller pink treebird I'm not pink..... yet Highlight of the day, the free flight show They told this kid to close his eyes because a giant predatory bird will land on his arm impressive for all you americans, your not the only country with eagles
vuurvogel Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Now up Burgers Zoo. This is not a classic zoo. Most of the main attractions are eco-displays. They have a mangrove, a large aquarium, but their main displays are a 2 acre desert. Made after the Sonora an Mojave desert. And a 3.5 acre jungle. And that in the middle of the Netherlands. The main buildings are all conected so you can spend the whole day indoors if you got bad weather. edit: I always mix up desert and dessert. That leads to awkward situations This is an overview of the desert. And even now you can not see the whole thing. These plants are the real thing The rocks are not though Coke anyone? I cannot give you an overview of the jungle, it is to big, with way to many trees. there even is a 40 feet waterfall inside. You can not only walk below it, but also hike up to the top. a size indication, my brother who usally accompanies me if visiting a zoo The wildlife runs loose, so you have to search. Especially for little ones like this This is an African 'kopje' to be found in the outdoor walking safari and now for cute little animals. Just because they are cute I want one, I want one, squee (sorry, other website)
vuurvogel Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 This spring Hans (hansrubens) and I went to the Efteling for some really early fun. It was a beautiful day which created a lot of visitors. I have never seen the park this busy. Even rides like carnival festival, which usually are a walk on, had lines up to an hour. On to the pictures. The park is in a building frenzy... Here comes the new restaurant as part of the realm of fantasy... and this is the entrance to the new theatre SPRINGTIME! This park is CC aproved The Efteling is still one of the most beautifull parks in the world in my opinion Being artsy The light was magnificent to take pictures this day To bad, no train, the ride was down for maintainance today Joris, did run and well.. This is becoming my favorite part of the park, look at that view I'm gonna eat you little ..... train At this point I was really confused, somebody was in the wrong park
robinschroder Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hee EB! Your picture of Vliegende Hollander is fantastic! Groetjes, Robin
vuurvogel Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Time for another update. On the one free day I got this week my brother and I decided to go to Amsterdam. It was rainy in the morning but got better in the afternoon. Reason to go to Amsterdam was City of Fun. This is an experimental fair where you pay one admission price and the rides are free to go on. The organizers got some large rides out of Germany. My reason to visit was Hollenblitz and Wildwasser 3. And for only 15 euro admission it was a bargain. Not much of a growth that day though, a walk on on every ride and most of the time we were the only ones in a ride. Besides these two large rides there was Deamonium, one of the largest traveling ghost trains. It looked great on the outside, but was really lame inside. The event tower was also there, a nine stories tall traveling tower with lots of unrelated stuff inside. Not really worth it. There where some typical fair rides which we did, but only once and a fun house we did multiple times because it was a nice experience. An empty fun house just for you. A totally great experience was Tal der Koningen, this walk through haunt was really good and made me jump sometimes. Even without live actors, brilliant. Wildwasser 3 was fun. Never would have imagined a water ride that big to be traveling. and hollenblitz... Just in awe for that ride. It is fast, it is long it had great special effects, lasers, lights, christmas trees and fire. And the power the coaster gets from the lift hills...wow. On to the pictures calm day at the fair Not a really big Fair here you can see almost everything pictures where taken from atop this ride This one looks great but is realy lame I got me and my brother into the topscan. The operater thought it to be funny to run it for over 7 minutes. I do not think I can convince my brother to ride this machines again. One of the reasons of visiting this insanly big traveling log flume wet beaver! brilliant-non-live-actor-walk-through-haunt the other reason of visiting. Great, a must do traveling coaster look at the size of it. It is not Olympia, but I don't think you can compare them
the ghost Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Awesome! Love to get down there at some point...Amsterdam seems so awesome!
simon8899 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Topscan is a smooth ride - could book vacation on that one....lol. Lucky you also had a Frisbee....
