disneygurlz2s
Well, Lasik is a highly unstable surgery. My vision is fluctuating, but at worst, is only at a level just a bit better than what I had without glasses. Hang in there Nemmy... LASIK surgery, as well as other corneal surgeries like cataract surgery, take time to heal, and it is during that healing process that your vision can and likely will fluctuate. We tell our patients to expect this for several days to several weeks. I am sure your doctor has advised you of the same. Nemmy
Update: My vision has really improved. The opthamologist said that I should be seeing better in five to six months than I did with glasses. All pain is gone, but my eyes still get a bit dry every now and then. I can't see the best at night, but I don't really need to see anything at night, so hooray for me. The thing that pisses me off the most is not being able to go in water for three more weeks. I really want to ride the new water slide at Rapids, Big Thunder. My mom had it done, and she's amazed at the results. All she talks about is how well she sees, after having bad vision for 10+ years. (She had the surgery last year.) She even went out to buy a new TV, bacuase she didn't realize how messed up her old TV was. LOL Oh, and I saw Big Thunder on TV today, where is Rapids??? Heck, I've been down here over 3 years, and still haven't riden the Hurricane!

Nemmy
A final update - my vision is perfect. I have no side effects, and I can do everything, like ride roller coasters and go swimming. It was a successful surgery.
Hattuchili
Good to hear everything is okay. Remeber, I have two customers, with some problems after the surgery. However, that make me more happy to hear you are fine! --Sören
Sir Clinksalot
It is encouraging to hear that it went well, when I go to the eye doctor in October I am going to look into the Lasik and see if it is something that would work for me. Shockwave
I wear glasses, but I can't have laser surgery because my condition deteriorates over time. So any surgery may only result in a temporary fix. I just hope someone finds a cure for keritaconus! (sp?)

Sir Clinksalot
^does it hurt? I don't do well with pain
disneygurlz2s
^To be honest, I haven't had it yet.... not that I am afraid of the procedure, and certainly not that I don't trust the doctors, because ours are among the top in the country. My thing is that I am the person who who has something go wrong when 99% of the population doesn't have a problem. (ie, going into congestive heart failure while pregnant) But... we've had dozens of staff get it done, including my closest coworker, and almost everyone of them said it wasn't that bad and almost everyone has had excellent results. I have had several friends get it done, including a kid I used to babysit who had all kinds of eye muscle problems as a child and had been in glasses for years. He wanted to become and cop and couldn't have glasses, so he had it done about 5-6 years ago and his vision is perfect. Most people describe it as a "discomfort" more than a pain. Your eye heals very quickly. Mostly it feels kind of scratchy, but that is eased by wetting drops, and since those are non medicated you can pretty much use those as much as you need. You sleep in goggles for a few weeks to, just to keep yourself from scratching your eye in your sleep. My biggest piece of advice is to go to a refractive surgeon who is also a cornea subspecialist. Sir Clinksalot
Can it be done if you have astigmatism? Don't your eyes have to not change for a few years to have it done? Mine keep getting worse. I am just so sick of contacts. Kristi "has a hard time putting drops in eyes too!" C.
disneygurlz2s
^Yes, it can be done, even if you have astigmatism.... but there are variables. When they first introduced LASIK back a decade or so, there were only a slim number of people who were candidates because of the technology. As the technology has improved, they have been able to help an increasing number of people. There are different types of surgery based on what your needs are and what you are willing to spend. Again, it goes back to choosing a doctor who really knows his/her stuff, and who is doing the "latest" procedures. Generally, you can go in and have a consultation and they will do a series of tests that will ultimately tell you if you are a candidate or not. A good doctor will turn you away or advise you against surgery if you are not a good candidate. If you are really serious about it, I would be happy to see if I can get our cornea guys to give me some names of some good cornea/LASIK people in the San Fernando/LA area.
