JDo217 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I have the option of going any day from July 26-29 (Mon - Thurs). I know it's July and the park is way more crowded than in June but it's the only time I can go. I've been to GADv and Dorney recently and almost every ride was a walk-on on the day I went; I'm getting kind of lazy and spoiled with lines I'm thinking Tuesday right now but I honestly don't really have HP crowds figured out yet. Every time I've gone for the past three years, there have been huge crowds and minimum 30 minute waits for the coasters
braztaz Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 You're best bet would be either Tuesday or Wendesday. I'm not sure if anything's different with Hershey, but Kings DOminion and Busch Gardens are nearly empty those days.
SharkTums Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Hershey is always crowded. Keep in mind there are thousands of random day camps that will be bringing children during the week as well. I know in the past Tues/Wed/Thurs were always big camp days at parks.

Going in the evening on a weekday is the best from what I've heard. Plus it's a little easier on the wallet. Waits from what I've heard can vary from a walk-on to a hour wait. The Boardwalk is going to be the most crowded part of the park.
A.J. Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I went in just his past Wednesday, and it wasn't bad at all (it was raining for half the day though). My friends and I had walk-ons for Lightning Racer, Wildcat, Wild Mouse, Superdooperlooper and Trailblazer; and one-or-two load waits for Storm Runner and Great Bear. Fahrenheit and Comet were the only coasters which had long waits, usually from 30 minutes to an hour. Heck, I got three rides per side on Lightning Racer!

Foxy Roxy Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Mondays seem to be the least crowded in my experience. However, the last time I went to Hershey on a Friday, the lines were rather short except at Fahrenheit.
Erik Johnson Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 During my two visits to the park it really clears out about two to three hours before closing.
JDo217 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks for the responses guys. It turns out we're most likely going on the 20th instead, since that's the only date that really works for all of us. Question though: there's a concert slated for the 20th (Star Wars in Concert Tour at the GiantCenter). Will the park necessarily be more crowded because of this? I know when John Mayer and KISS perform at the park it'll probably be PACKED but I'm really not sure about the Star Wars thing. I guess if anything, the park will clear out around 7 since that's when the event starts.
Movieguy Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Last year, I visited Hersheypark in the middle of July. I went on the Monday and Tuesday of that week, and the crowds weren't actually that bad. I waited about an hour for Farenheit, but the waits on Storm Runner, Wildcat, Lightning Racer, and the like weren't nearly as long. Comet was a longer wait, but that was probably due to the ride's possibly lower through-put level. I'm visiting again next month, from August 16 to the 18th, so I'm wondering how the August crowds will be, compared to the July crowds. There are no concerts or events scheduled for the time I'll be there, according to hersheypark.com, so I'm hopeful it won't be too bad.
JDo217 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 The past two years I've gone in August and the crowds are kind of what you described. 10-20 minute wait for SR, an hour or more for Fahrenheit, Wildcat, SDL and Lightning Racer 0-5 minute wait, Great Bear and Comet more than 30 mins. My brother was there today and said crowds were pretty much like that, and there was a concert in the park today. Also, he said SR was closed for the rest of the night for technical difficulties. Does anyone know if Hershey usually gets those problems fixed quickly? I'm really looking forward to riding it on Tuesday
therooboy Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I went last week & Tuesday was far less crowded than the Monday. Even though Monday had heavy rain scheduled (which it did all afternoon) it was very crowded. On Tuesday I got about 3 times as many rides, as most rides were walk ons or under 10 minutes wait (bar Fahrenheit which was around 20 minutes). Not sure if that would still be the same in August though.
