SCBB: Remembering the Boardwalk|Santa Cruz, CA ,USA

Recommended Posts

Post your memories here!

Talk about ride and attraction changes! (Were they good changes or are you lonesome for a certain ride or attraction?)

-------------------------------

I made this thread because was inspired by a picture of the 3D Funhouse that the Boardwalk park used to have before they changed it to the Fright Walk.

Now, although I'm scared of clowns, I still sort of kick myself for not being brave enough to go inside.

Another ride I miss is the old Autorama that they had. It used to strat right where Ghost Blasters begins. This change happened in 2001 I believe, and Ghost Balsters actually let me forget about the old Autorama beacue in many ways, Ghost Blasters was a better ride.

Oh wow!! Great memories!! Man I misss Chaos and Typhoon the most!! Those were my top favorite rides, but now it's Fireball and Sea Swings... Sea Swings is fun and was a ride very much needed at the park, but Fireball isn't as cool as Chaos was.

The old Cavetrain was great... can't say the same for the remake though...

And yes, I remember the tea cups... Better known as Spin-Out... (I believe they were pool table balls) They were a lot of run, but Cyclone took up that spot, and it's a cool ride too.

As for Video Storm, Tsunami is basically the same ride.

More rides I remember are the Chinese dragon roller coaster that was in the kiddie area next to Crazy Surf (Orient Express) and Whirl Wind, which changed to "Wipe-Out" in 2008. Wipe-Out is much cooler though.

Hey, is it true that the bear they have at the beginning of the Cave Train was in the old Haunted Castle at one point? (I want to say it was where the wolf thing was at the end of the old ride...)

I remember a lot of the park's past as I went there a lot as a kid. However, my last visit prior to 2006 was probably in 1997, or whenever Chaos was new (Fun ride by the way). Before Chaos, there was another "Wipeout" ride, not the same thing as the Wipeout there today. Does anyone remember the second set of bumper cars that stood by the Giant Dipper? I think it was called "Auto Scooters." This ride could have sat where Fireball is now, or right next to where Fireball's at.

I totally will not forget Spinout, where my friend got outspun by my brother-in-law. He couldn't walk to the exit, he kind of just poured out of the tea cup and crawled until he got to the railing. Since, he could not do any spinning rides. Even the ride operator asked if he was ok.

Wavejammer was another fun ride, which was replaced with a similar type of ride, Rock 'n Roll, similar to what happened with Video Storm.

Lastly, anyone remember "Bermuda Triangle"? It was a typical scrambler ride, sat where the Cliff Hanger gliders sit now.

And those cave people...they've been riding the Sky Gliders since I was real little. They still ride today.

Great memories!

Yes, I do remember the Bremuda Triangle! I just forgot what it was called before. It was such a classic ride! I loved it a lot as well as Chaos, but then along came Fireball and Cliff hanger (both rides were advertised in 2005 I believe).

The other ride I miss is Typhoon. Man, that was the best swing ride the boardwalk had, and the only true upside-down ride at the Boardwalk.

I remember the Orient Express coaster that was in the kiddie section next to Crazy Surf, and Whirl Wind before it became Wipe-Out.

I also remember the old Cave Train ride... (which was much better than the remake in my opinion)...

^Typhoon is a very memorable ride...was my first "Upside Down" ride, followed by Orlean's Orbit at Great America. I remember my mom bribing me into riding it, telling me that we'd leave if I didn't do it. I got off, heading straight for the ride's entrance again to do another ride on Typhoon. That same night, I also rode the Dipper for the first time, thus beginning my coaster addiction. I was in the 4th grade when that happened.

The Cave Train revamp and addition of Whirlwind I do not remember, wasn't at the park during that era. I think I also may faintly remember the old Jet Star coaster, only because I remember seeing Hurricane that following year as a completely new ride. Also, I'm not sure if it was there when I went probably in 1990 but there was a roundup-like ride on the boardwalk (not riverwalk section) maybe sitting over near Typhoon or somewhere near that.

I miss the Jet Stars it was far superior to the Hurricane, I also miss the old Cave Train with all of the waterfalls

You know you love that "death spiral" drop and the double helix finale. Nor Cal Flashback...hardly. At least this thing was exciting!

What I really miss was the entrance to the walk from the San Lorenzo River, under the train tressel. It made parking in the "official" Boardwalk lot very convenient!

That Wild Mouse looked like something wicked. The Boardwalk still sells their coffee table book which is great for us histori-nuts. Well worth the investment.

I think Flashback may have been smoother that "death spiral" has nothing on the ground level turns of the Jet Stars
