Wild Waves Renovation

Recommended Posts

Wild Waves Theme Park in Federal Way, Washington (my local park) posted some pictures on their Facebook page. The park is undergoing renovation for the 2010 season. Here is a link to the website. Wild Waves Facebook Page

The exit gate is getting revamped.

New, better cabanas are being built near the entrance.

FINALLY! The kiddie complex that always had freezing a$$ water is getting a heater! =)

All of the parks fences are being repainted (and I can tell you , they REALLY need it!).

Probably the biggest change to a ride at the park, Wild Thing is getting a fresh coat of paint. You can see the new yellow paint on the left. Now they can't be sued by Valleyfair. =)

The Kangaroos at Kangabounce are cold? Nope, just getting covered to protect them from the new paint.

More fencework.

You can see all of the area that was repainted on WT, so far. The games on the WT side of the midway have been repainted/resigned. But something's missing... Wanna know what it is? If you want to make it fun for yourself, go to one of my *wonderful* TRs and look for yourself! Or if you're boring, you can scroll down. =)

If you looked through one of my TRs, you'd know that there used to be midway games, an arcade, and some entertaining 'feed the carp and watch them Roman Gladiator style fight-to-the-death for it' machines here. Well... they're gone. And I hope that they replace it with some sexy Intamin Mega-lite curvature in 2011!

This guy like fence. Do you like fence? If so, ask Robb if you can e-mail Dan! =)

Some workers digging the land for the new cabanas.

^^^Thank you!

Next up- add more brakes to Wild Thing's brake run so that it doesn't stop with just 4 brakes at the end of that long flat stretch of track perfect for a smooth stop

Amen!

^I agree. The paint on WT is pretty worn and faded. You can tell the paint job is 13 years old. Although personally I'd say Corkscrew at Silverwood (and I guess at Playland PNE as well) is more in need of renovation, I can't say I'm not glad so see a fresh coat of paint on WT. The part of the renovation that was most needed, though, is the fence painting. A lot of the fencing was heavily chipped, especially along the lake as you looped down the back of the park.

I've included some pics of fading, wearing, chipping, etc. of things at WW to show you how much this renovation is needed!

Here's that bad WT fading/chipping/wearing I'm talking about. The new repaint should cover up all of that (except for the little white brake fin, I hope it stays!)

This green fence has been worn so much it looks black ontop! I hope they fix 'malaria lake' as apart of the renovation as well, because it's just nasty. =)

This photo shows you how much the details of toward the back of the WT station are neglected.

I hope they address the issues (that I can see) with the WT train. It's not very clean, as you can see from the scuffing, the trim imperfections along the classic Arrow sidestripe, the paint fading on the floor, and the not-the-exact-same-red-as-the-rest-of-the-train restraint-mechanism coverings that are behind the headrests.

*UPDATE*

I drove by Wild Waves 2 days ago, and I managed to get some photos of the progress on Wild Thing.

AAA(37).jpg.3b252e2b7c275f4d3e5ef2f4f8773faa.jpg

Here's the current view of the park from I-5.

AAA(39).jpg.dd309225eb3510a1b2fef637021f2642.jpg

Is it me, or is the blue slide a little brighter than the other slides? Repainting? Cleaning?

AAA(40).jpg.3c3f23aca97c16c3f1b594151faa2191.jpg

In this shot, you can see that the repainting for Wild Thing has progressed to the corkscrews, some of the rear turnaround, and the top portion of the lift.

AAA(41).jpg.185a0a560beca5beb965378ef8ee0f87.jpg

This shot allows you to better see the repainting on the brake run and the chain return.

Finally, this shot allows you to see.... well, Klondike Goldrusher, for good measure. =)

  • 1 month later...

I am planning my first ever trip to Wild Waves (from Silverwood) in July. I think it's looking like it might be best for me to fly from Spokane to Seattle early in the morning and then do Wild Waves from mid-day to close. Are the renovations all complete and are all 4 coaster open?

Is this park doable within 4 hours?

^I cannot be exactly sure if all 4 (really only 3, unless you're a credit whore ) will be operating. WW isn't always so great with posting notifications on rides closures on their site. I can probably visit the park in July and tell you if any rides are closed/open. And yes, this park is easily done in 4 hours, especially in light crowds. One thing, though: if you want to do the waterpark, it will take quite a bit more time because the lines for most waterpark attractions are pretty horrendous during the summer.

Thanks for your quick reply!

I will whore myself for all 4 credits for sure. I have done every coaster in Vancouver, Washington, and Oregon with the exception of Wild Waves. I am flying to Spokane to do Silverwood and figure I will try to sneak Wild Waves in. It looks like I might get to Seattle Airport around 11AM and would drive to WW. (30 minutes?)

I'd like to be out of WW by 5PM. What are Sunday crowds like in July?

^The drive from SeaTac to Federal Way (on a good day before/after rush hour) is about 20-30 mins. A Sunday in July is probably the best time to cool down at the waterpark, but the worst time to wait in lines in the whole park. FYI, hours through most of July are 10AM-7PM Sun-Thu, 10AM-8PM Fri & Sat.

One other recommendation: Visit Rocky & Bullwinkle's Family Fun Center in Tukwila, less than 10 mins from SeaTac. It's got a really good arcade, an indoor Frog Hopper, I think a kiddie credit (since you're a CW ), a Screamin' Swing, a bungee trampoline, etc., etc., etc. A really nice FEC that's just 'moderately' expensive. Definitely worth checking out. Here's a Photo TR I took of it a little earlier. Photo TR: Rocky & Bullwinkle's Family Fun Center

Thanks for the tip on R&B. Are you sure they have a credit? (I know they have a simulator)

I will have literally about 5 hours between flights in Seattle and want to get the credits at Wild Waves. Don't care about the water park. Just want to know if this is going to be doable or dangerous!
