YoshiFan Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Yeah, the traffic in NJ can definetly be a factor. It's well past Labor Day at that point so a lot of the people going to the shore and back won't be on the road but there are still some that continue to go even through October (and a some shore towns have activities in later September) so it could be a disaster trying to go through NJ knowing you have to get to the airport (not to mention that I-95 can also be bad near the Philadelphia airport).
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 We have changed our flights and are now flying into PHI and we are getting there at 9pm Friday night so will then drive to Washington DC. We have decided to do DC stuff on Friday, Knoebels on Saturday and Dorney on Sunday. Our flight leaves PHI at 5:45 Sunday night. And we will be eating at Carrabas both nights Thanks everyone for all the advice and help, we need it!! Kristi "now looking forward to a coaster trip, not a looking at places to move trip " C.
CoasterFanatic Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 ^ That plan looks solid. You guys are going to have a great time. Have fun on your East Coast coaster adventure!
Meteornotes Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 ^ There was one time when we were coming back from PKD that it took us about 4 hours just to GET to D.C!!! (Remember that drive, Dave?) --Robb "That sucked!!!" Alvey Yes, that drive defined the word "suck". Gregg/Kristi, as someone that lives in Baltimore, let me warn you that traffic here, especially around DC, is very bad. DC traffic on weekdays is just as bad as LA traffic, so plan accordingly. If you're going to DC, also be careful about where you get a hotel, as some areas of DC are, um, not good... If you need hotel advice and stuff for the area, let me know. dt
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 ^ Yeah, hotel help for DC would be appreciated. I think what we are going to do is stay Friday and Saturday night in Allentown that way we only have to switch hotels once. We will just drive to Knoebels on Saturday morning since they don't open until 12:00 anyway. Any suggestions on hotels in Allentown? We only care that it's clean.
robbalvey Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 ^ The hotels across the street from Dorney are all very nice. We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express several times. --Robb
CoasterFanatic Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 ^^ I usually stay at the Crowne Plaza in Downtown Allentown. It can be had for around $60 on Hotwire. If you see a high-rated hotel for about $60 in Allentown, it is the Crowne Plaza. Probably about 3-4 miles from the park. King Beds rock! Fancy Pillows Fancy Bathrooms Very Plush Location is a little bit different story, but not too bad.
Coaster Palooza Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 ^^We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express too. It is really nice and super close to the park (across the street!).
What Now Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Hotels in Washington D.C tend to be either really fancy or really ghetto. I would recomend saying outside DC and take the Subway in to DC. When my family went to DC a couple of years ago, we stayed at a hotel (there are several hotels) in Columbia, MD and we drove to a Subway station in Greenbelt (I think).
