thataaronkid
Hey everyone, on friday i have my employment interview at six flags magic mountain and i just had a few questions. 1. How does there interview process work? 2. What sort of questions should i expect to be asked? 3. If you have been interviewed at Six Flags Magic Mountain before, would you say the interview process was fairly stressless easy and quick? 4. Got any helpful advice? 5. Finally, im assuming there only interviewing us for the position in which we applied for, right? I mean if i applied for a host or ride operator there not going to interview me for the clean up crew, right? Thanks everyone for your time and hope to get some help with these questions! themeparkman25
For starters, it wouldn't hurt to check out this list with common interview questions. http://jobsearch.about.com/od/interviewquestionsanswers/a/interviewquest.htm Now I have not applied at SFMM (yet), but when I applied at Elitches this summer I had two interviews and then a drug test. The first one was pretty easy with broader questions that they use to get an idea of who you are. The second was more specific about me, my morals, my experiences, etc. To answer your last question, you interview for what you applied for and only what you applied for. The law says you have to know what you are expected to do and stuff in a job description. But hey, a job is a job and a job in a theme park is the best there is. Only advice is, if they ask you why they shouldn't hire you, don't say "there is no reason". Oh ya, and dress for success. Good luck!

PeoplemoverMatt
Hey everyone, on friday i have my employment interview at six flags magic mountain and i just had a few questions. 1. Finally, im assuming there only interviewing us for the position in which we applied for, right? I mean if i applied for a host or ride operator there not going to interview me for the clean up crew, right? Thanks everyone for your time and hope to get some help with these questions! The interview process is basically what you'd expect it to be. Show up dressed to impress & be prepared to answer all sorts of questions about you, why you want the job, what you feel you'll bring to the job, etc. If you're honestly excited about the job you've applied for, and honestly want to put forth your best effort into it, that should express itself in how you answer the interviewer's questions. As in all things, just be yourself, and you'll do fine. They will talk to you about the position you applied for, but in case they like you but there's nothing available, they very well might offer you a position in another department (i.e. if there's nothing in Operations, you may be asked about Food Service). If that happens, just be honest with yourself & your interviewer about whatever prospect is presented to you. In my opinion and experience, the whole process is just about as stressfree as it can be. If you truly want to be a part of the team, that'll come out on its own. There won't be a need to force anything, nor will anything be forced upon you. Oh, and make sure you arrive ON TIME! Good luck!
thataaronkid
Thanks everyone for the help! I just got out of the interview.. The lady said I passed everything but she did not say I was hired. She said I will be put on a wait list. Which is better then nothing I guess, but I do not think I'm gonna get it. Has anyone else been in this position and still got hired? If so, how long did you have to wait before they called you? Thanks everyone!
Chris Benvenuto
Most of the time (80%) employers will not hire you. But on the Theme Park side of life, it may be alot different, you may still have a chance. Because with other jobs, it's unlikely you'll make it. SharkTums
You also need to realize that the park is only open weekends right now so they don't need as much help. There's a good chance they're not hiring anyone right now; just getting a database of potential good employees for when they go daily in March. ebl
Right now, I'm a member of the Looking For Work Club these days and it's incredibly frustrating to have what seemed like a good interview, and then you hear...nothing. Eric
thataaronkid
Yeah, i dont think its gonna happen though because when i first got there the receptionist said "How did you hear that we WERE hiring." So i figured they are hiring after she said that. Then i got down with the interview and she said congratulations you passed the interview, unfortunately were are not hiring anymore. So, im just keeping my fingers crossed.
ebl
^ In my last interview, we got all done, then she told me that the position was put "on hold." The games that are played sometimes are very frustrating. I wish you luck in finding a position that you enjoy. Eric
thataaronkid
Yeah, its pretty ridiculous. Im not trying to be mean, but seriously, some of the people they hire here at the Six Flags in Valencia, CA its almost like "What were you thinking when you hired them?" I know like 5 people from my school that work there, all have below a 1.5 GPA and are dopers and constantly get into fights, but i guess they don't take that into a count. lol *Ok, im done with my rant. Zenechai
That's what we hear a lot at Knott's (you know, the park that seasonally hires over 1,000 immature teenagers who get paid to take up space in the ONLY EMPLOYEE LOT WE USE DURING HAUNT (seriously, it takes an hour to leave, some nights) and jump out and scare people). I haven't been inspired by some of the guest service stories I've heard regarding ride operators. Would love to know if the same TV show that came to the park to see if we were using our cell phones while operating rides (dunno if anything's aired yet... so I don't know if they found anything) went to Six Flags. I would be interested to hear it. As far as the job interview/hiring process goes, I didn't have a problem getting a job at Knott's, but the other people interviewing made it really easy. Flip-flops, baggy shorts around their butts, girls dressed in tube-tops, ear guages the size of half-dollars (I kid you not...). And I was business-casual. I got put in front of about 17 people who applied before me, simply because of how I was dressed. You never know WHAT will put you ahead in an interview, so just make sure you're as prepared as you can be. Another thing that really helped me was getting hired during a seasonal period (I was a 2008 Haunt "beef up the staffing" hire,) and then doing a better job than the people who'd worked there longer. It's sad to see, but operators tend to get into routines, and they focus less and less on guest service in their ultimate goal of getting as many people through the turnstiles as they can in one day (though this may be a product of supervision not being satisfied with numbers. I'm not sure). If you're a standout with a good work ethic, there's no reason they shouldn't keep you past your original hire date, especially if you get pulled in to an area that operates year-round. The only questions I found difficult (since I'd never been a ride operator before) were "what-if" scenarios. But those scenarios become very easy to handle once you tell the billionth person that NO, their child is NOT tall enough to ride, even if they stand on their tippy-toes (that gets old fast). They'll throw some common scenarios at you, shouldn't be anything too hard. But be warned, you have to take the interview VERY seriously. Someone I referred for a job was interviewing and jokingly answered that they would let a child on an attraction if they were JUST BARELY too small. He didn't get called back for a second interview, needless to say. The best of luck to you!!!! ~Zen
