Airtime&Gravity Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I finally made it out to Indiana Beach today, and I was impressed with how great of a park it was. While it had some problems, it is an all around great park. If you've never been there, the best way to describe it is if someone built a bunch of rides in a tourist trap town. The rides are all owned by Morgan RV Resorts, but there are several independently owned businesses which make the park unique. The rides: Steel Hawg - I knew the elements to expect, but even with that, this ride still scared me. The ride is a ton of fun, but there are several "Oh crap" moments throughout. It isn't very intense, but it is very smooth and a lot of fun. It probably places in my top 10 steel coasters, but I'm not sure where. LoCoSuMo - A very fun but very messed up coaster. It was fairly smooth, but it is just so wrong but so fun. Frankenstein's Castle - a fun cheesy walk through haunted house. It is worth the $4 it costs to do. My only complaint is the 12-14 year old boy in the group that I was in kept criticizing how stupid and lame the effects were. Hoosier Hurricane - probably the disappointment of the trip. It's fun, but there was little to no airtime when I rode. There was only one train operation on it and it broke down later in the day, so I was unable to reride it in hopes of changing my opinion (see Cornball). Cornball Express - When I first rode it, I didn't see why everyone loved it. There wasn't much airtime, and it just didn't seem to deserve all the praise. I rode it later in the day, and it was on my second ride when it lived up to the hype. There was plenty of airtime, and the train flew around the course. It was a great ride and it probably places around 3-5 on my favorite wooden coaster list. Double Shot - This was my first S&S tower ride, and it was a lot of fun...scary, but fun. Galaxi - This coaster was a surprise. It was smooth and had some good moments of airtime. Tig'rr coaster - I didn't know what to expect, but this coaster was a lot of fun. Water Swigs - scary but fun yo-yo over water Falling Star - fun flat ride Giant Wheel - scary ferris wheel of death Schafer Queen - boat ride that allowed me to get some nice photos. Unfortunately, I didn't ride Den of Lost Thieves as it was so hot and humid (ambulance even took a heat stroke victim away), that by the time I would have ridden it, I wanted to leave. Air Crows was closed. The tacos and Pronto Pup are great. So yeah, go visit Indiana Beach. I have a lot of photos, so they will be posted over multiple posts. However, feel free to post between updates, and any can be used for the index. Flying Bobs again More to come soon...or later...or whenever Next update: the coasters Flying Bobs - another ride I have no intention of riding Sea Dragon Yes, the Tig'rr coaster is built on top of a restaurant (the Dog n' Suds) Air Crows was closed Indiana Beach Double Shot Double Shot Double Shot Double Shot IB has the same dual water slide thing that Kiddieland has Fail...or win? bumper cars same ride flat ride The splash battle looks fun, but it fails compared to SFGAM's. Plus you have to pay to use the off-ride water canons here. Cornball and Hurricane cover the kiddieland Log flume again Log flume, but the line was too long for a mediocre looking ride for me IB There's even a Dog n' Suds here, although it wasn't very clean. Even if it was cleaner, I didn't want to eat there since there is one not too far from SFGAM, and because there is better food at IB. Galaxi Galaxi The Galaxi is tucked away in some water slides Den of Lost Thieves building Den of Lost Thieves - next time I'll ride it Frankenstein's Castle character Frankenstein's Castle character Not so much rattling, but more along the lines of just really messed up LoCoSuMo LoCoSuMo just like the car ride and a lot of the other rides at IB is built over the water Here is a caption about the sign LoCouMo was the first coaster of the day. It opened late due to testing not happening until after the park opened, but I ended up on the first train of the day. Here is a map of Indiana Beach. There is a lot to do in a small area.
Airtime&Gravity Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Part 2 A ride op at Steel Hawg said that on a new top thrill ride T.V. show, Steel Hawg made the list. Hurricane towers over the park. More updates will come tomorrow and possibly Monday depending on my available time and ability to narrow down my photos. Hurricane runs over the water along the edge of the park. Hurricane - while a train is running, the ride is closed and will be for the rest of my day there I believe. Hurricane Hurricane's Station Hurricane For you lift hill enthusiasts Super incredible nerd shot Steel Hawg is a mess of track Waiting to enter the station again random track Super nerd shot Coming into the brakes The downward barrel roll was a cool element Steel Hawg Another nerd shot Steel Hawg again Nerd Shot You spend what seems like a long upside down here Lots of strange elements Steel Hawg was a great ride
WFChris Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Great pictures! As always, I love to see parts of the park that arent usually 'featured' on most TRs Chris.
Airtime&Gravity Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Part 3: What should be the last set Thanks for reading Random ducks The Galaxi is somewhere back there in the water park. Here you can see almost the entire park Giant Wheel again The Giant Wheel offers some great views Obligatory tiki head photo Cornball races through a turn above the park's kiddieland. Cornball Cornball Cornball is a lot of fun with some great airtime. Cornball is my 5th favorite wooden coaster. Cornball The Falling Star was fun. Swinging over the lake Water Swings Coasters are everywhere at IB. Fascination, but I didn't have time to play. A car about to enter the first turn. It is just one mess of track. While not very tall, Tig'rr Coaster manages to get going very fast. Tig'rr Coaster
Electerik Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Indiana Beach is one of my favorite parks. But I've only ever been when it was slow. I imagine it probably doesn't handle crowds well. But I'm glad you finally made it out there. I think it's an amazing park.
