Next week, I will be going to Las Vegas. Since it has been about six years since I went out there last, I am too young to gamble, and I'll be with people who haven't done all the roller coasters, I'm going to spend a day and go on the big four (Desperado, Canyon Blaster, Speed, and the Roller Coaster). I have been on all of them except Speed before, so I kind of know what to expect. However, I have a couple questions regarding a couple of them.

Speed: I have heard that speed is the best coaster in Las Vegas, but since it is a shuttle coaster I don't think it will live up to the hype. I have never been on a Premier LIM shuttle loop coaster before, but are they really that great? Is Speed worth riding more than once? I'll only have about an hour for Nascar Cafe, and am trying to decide whether or not to buy an all day pass. It is only five dollars more than a combo ticket, which I know I am going to get. I've heard that at one point Speed gave you two laps for one ticket. Is that still the case?

The Roller Coaster: When I last rode this, it was my favorite roller coaster in Vegas. I don't remember it being too rough, but that was six years ago. How is it now? I will definitely be riding it once, but is it worth buying an all-day pass for? I'll be staying at the Excalibur so I could easily ride it several times throughout the day if I bought an all day pass, but if it is as bad as I have heard now (worse than a Vekoma SLC or Boomerang), I don't think it would be a good idea. The restraints don't seem like the type that would beat you up too much.

Speed is a lot of fun. Before heading over though, try checking one of the tix4tonight locations as I know before Speed went down a while back it frequently was there for half price all day tickets (it was $10 which was the price of one ride last time I rode it). No clue if it'll be there now so soon after it reopened or since it's such a "prime" tourist season, but it can't hurt to check real quick.

As for The Roller Coaster, you can handle quite the beating when you are younger (you would have been around 12, I'm sure it was butter smooth lol) it hurts plain and simple, the newer Premier trains didn't stop any of the head bashing, they just have softer padding around your head to slam into. I wouldn't invest into an all day pass for this one.

Just some advice: Avoid TRC at NYNY, or as I call it, The Togo Spinebuster Deluxe 5000. The thing left me with neck pain, shoulder bruising and a bad headache that lasted for two days afterward.

Maybe it is just me, but I didn't think that any of the coasters were THAT bad. The togo didn't rip me apart like it seemed to have done to everyone else, and to be honest I kind of found it to be fun. Canyon blaster was running pretty good and was pretty cool flipping around that little park. Speed was awesome, nuff said. I didn't check out stratosphere though, it was too expensive for a broke college kid.

If you haven't left on your trip yet I want to tell you, Speed is closed. I went during New Years and it had been closed, it may have re opened? Goodluck.

I'm back from my trip, and Speed has reopened. Because of what everyone else in my group wanted to do, I just ended up buying an all day pass for everything. There are more details in the trip report I posted.
