paintballer Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Very cool! Although they're just diffrent colored Griffons, But I guess its like that in real life too.
DBru Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Ehh...not a fan of the SheiKra trains. It seems like CD took the 'easy way out', by just painting the Griffon trains a different color. I would like them much better of they were 8 seats across (like they are in real life), instead of 10. The Kumba trains, however, look stunning! I would buy one in a heartbeat.

It does look kinda odd with the SheiKra trains with 2 extra seats than they should have. But the Kumba trains are sweet. They really look like the real ones. I'm wondering what ride will be the next to get Statix trains...?
hyyyper Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 ^ and ^^, you can easily saw off the 1st and 10th seat, and you'll yourself an eight-seater Sheikra train.
DiSab Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yeah, I figured that, but it would be nice if they made it so we don't have to mangle it to make it accurate.
Jack Rimer Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Here is the reasoning behind this: When we originally made the molds for the Griffon Statix, we approached BGT about Sheikra. We said we could have the molds so the 1st and 10th seat were gated off, thus giving an 8 across. This is more expensive to do so we needed a guarantee that we would receive an order. They had no interest in any Statix at the time. Fast forward one year and given the success BGE has had with them, they now want to stock them. Of course, they want 8 across. We tell them that it is too late, but we can do 10 across. If they sell well, we will maybe consider a new mold, but the numbers would have to justify it. The funny thing is, when we showed them these pictures, they loved the Sheikra, but thought the Kumba track didn't look good! I suppose everyone has their own thing that bothers them about these models. Remember, they are SOUVENIRS not scale replicas. We do our best, but there are practical limitations we have to consider. Personally, I am not sure the GP will even notice. I have seen shirts for sale that show Alpengeist trains on Loch Ness Monster track and they sell them just fine. This is a minor detail that only enthusiasts would care about. Besides, if they order more and we do make them 8 across, these will be MAJOR collectors items.
