mrtickles
After living in London for over 2 years, I finally made the trip up to visit the best park I think the UK has to offer. It's a very close call for me between Oblivion and back row of Nemesis for the best coaster in the park, both intense rides. Single rider queue line definitely helped me have the best time over the weekend! Oblivion x6 Air x5 Nemesis x6 Rita x3 Spinball Whizzer x3 plus most of the other smaller rides, enjoy the pics! woops pictures in reverse order, scroll down why didn't I come sooner! straight to Oblivion for my first ride that drop gets me everytime what's going on here? that's better it's a one trick coaster but it certainly packs a punch with that drop this ride is so popular, massive queue's all weekend lets check out the aquarium there were some areas where they would let you touch different species I think this was a good addition for the park, lots to see including a walk through a tunnel with fish and sharks swimming overhead a great way to cool down once the sun came out time for a walk through the gardens a nice pleasant break from the coasters Air wasn't intense but really alot of fun running 3 trains on both days, very happy twisty goodness big queues for Nemesis, single rider definitely helped intense in the back row, easily a favourite of mine coming at you in 3D an ok rapids ride this needs just some kind of lap bar, the OTSR were a bit annoying after the launch, there's not much to it oohhh what could it be? nothing much happening yet might have to make a trip back next year a Sonic balloon??? tedten
Thanks for uploading your pictures! I'm looking forward to seeing the completed new addition in 2010!
RedSpecial
Very nice TR - I'm not intending on going to Alton towers until Scarefest in October - the new Sea life Aquarium looks good fun - it'll be interesting to see how the new ride area develops over the summer. Thanks for posting.
Koolkid
I completely agree with Rita, I don't really get it to be honest, It's just a bit of a nothing ride. And the neck bashing is very very painful on this. Aswell as the ever increasing tightness of the restraints. I agree Nemesis is awesome in the back row
monkeyoverlord71
Rita isn't much after the launch but is still a good ride. I'm not affected by the OTSR's because of my small height but it would be so much better with lap bars. Nemesis is by far the best coaster i've ridden, it's so intense and the speed off the first drop is incredible for the small drop it is. I do love Oblivion too but it isn't anywhere near how awesome Nemesis is. I agree with you on Air, it isn't "thrilling" as such but it's fun and is more true to the "flying experience" than other flyers if you get what I mean. Spinball Whizzer is another favourite of mine! It gives some pretty good forces if you get a good 2:1 spinning ratio. I can't wait to see what they get for 2010.

Interesting comments regarding 'Air' - don't get me wrong I really like it as a ride but once you've had a go on Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain you really can't class Air as the preferred flyer. The problem I think Alton Towers always seems to suffer from is the local planning restrictions. I think that the park does a great job working around local restrictions but feel that it always seems to have an impact when they build new rides. Hope we don't get a similar experience with the construction of the new 2010 attraction. General question - do other parks suffer from the same planning restrictions that Alton Towers seems to suffer from. When I've visited US parks it seems to be a case of anything goes with no restrictions. I still remember seeing Kraken at Sea World on the horizon driving to the park in Florida and the first thing that came to mind was how on earth would we get planning permission for something like that in the UK? Really I can't see anywhere else instructing a park to restrict a ride because it may put my cows off from milking. When will the locals around Alton Towers realise that the park is the main income generator for the area. Getting back on topic for me Oblivion although a one trick wonder always does the business for me and I'd be happy to ride Nemesis all day long given the chance. Personally love riding Nemesis in the dark - last Scarefest the ride generated such a cool atmosphere. Although not a coaster I always have great fun on Ripsaw at Alton which is often over looked. The queues are never too long to get in a number of goes one after another and always like playing the game of how many goes can you do before someone screams enough! monkeyoverlord71
^What I was trying to say is that Air is not as good of a thrill ride as the other flyers but it is all about simulating flight rather than scaring you. Does that make sense? Regarding the other question there are not any "big parks" aside from Alton, Thorpe Park and Chessington Worlds of Adventure. So there isn't need for big rides to attract people as much. Alton is the only one with such tight restrictions that I can think of. It's a miracle the 2010 coaster finally got approved from silly arguments the nearby residents made.

Does that make sense? Yep I'd totally agree with your description of Air - often a ride can be exhilarating and not scary which is fine. Whenever I go on Air I get to the end of the ride and want it to go around again without stopping - you just get in to the feel for the ride and its time to get off.
