natatomic Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I really waited until the last minute here, but I'll be going to Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens this weekend, and I was wondering if there's an optimal order to do the parks - Busch Gardens on Saturday and Kings Dominion on Sunday, or vice versa? Maybe it won't really matter since both are weekend days in June, so the parks are bound to be busy; but if anyone has any opinions or advice on the subject, I'd really appreciate you sharing it with me. And as a thank you, I'll be sure to post a really awesome Photo TR when I get back. Sounds like a fair trade to me.
Erik Johnson Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hmmmm....I am not sure which days would be better, but make sure you get there before opening at either park. For KD, run to Volcano! They also open Avalanche at noon, so make sure you line up early for that one as well.
bgeguy Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I would say hit BGE on Sunday, as the lines (in general) are usually somewhat shorter than Saturday. I havn't been to KD in a few years so I don't know what to tell ya there.
All Clear Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I would do KD first, based simply on the fact that it will seem a little less like a ghetto dump before Busch Gardens than after. I was at BGE last Sunday and it never got terribly crowded. I don't know how much of that had to do with it being Father's day, though. I've been to King's Dominion a couple of times this year on a Sunday, and while it's not too crowded, wait times are long due to lack of staff and mostly single-train operations. You might have better luck on Saturday when they are likely to be planning on a busier day so they'll be better staffed. In general, though, BGE can handle a crowd better than KD so there's a reason to go there Saturday...I guess I'm not really helping.
TheRapidsNerd Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Agreed with the others. KD on Saturday seems a better bet and wind up the weekend on a high note with BGE Sunday. Since we're giving advice here, when in Rome, don't swim in the rapids. Heh, just realized Avalanche Bobsled was my last credit...in 88 or 89. Anyway have a great time this weekend and enjoy both parks.
okinawaboy11 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Just to put this out there. Went to KD on Tuesday and Wednesday and Dominator ops were shooting trains out like no other (10 minute wait max, both days). They were doing great, keeping the line short with 2 train operations. Volcano's staff was unusually fast as well. Most ops were doing good. Rebel Yell's ops were very slow though, very lazy. So do KD on Saturday, hopefully the ops will be nice and fast and keep the lines moving. Go to Volcano first. No matter what day it is, if you get there within the first 30 minutes of the park opening, you don't have to worry about the line. But if you don't there WILL be about 30 minute to an hour wait at least. Especially on a Saturday. It was about 45 minutes both days we went.
NegaDuck Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Whats your plan? I definitely recommend you check out the Busch Gardens Summer Nights concerts in the park – I've been doing some work with BGE, and the concerts are great in that they're free of charge, (well, admission ). Schedule a couple of shows in there, you won't regret it. Here's a listing to help. Have fun!
bgeguy Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 ^Yeah, those start in mid-July and she's already been and has posted a photo TR.
NegaDuck Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I'm talking about the Summer Nights Series in July and August with Rick Springfield, Grand Funk Railroad and other good classic names performing. I posted the info on the BGW Facebook Fan Page, if anyone's interested. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Williamsburg-VA/Busch-Gardens-Williamsburg/18543728314?ref=ts#/pages/Williamsburg-VA/Busch-Gardens-Williamsburg/18543728314
