krouvi
Hi Robb (and everybody). Someone comment in youtube that the car in Tower of Terror is actually pulled down so it's not actually a free fall ? Is it true ? As TOT is the only drop tower ride I have ever done, does ot feels more than a regular free fall ride or less ? Thanks Alon.
hyyyper
I assume you are talking about the Disney ToT, from what i know, the elevator is being shot down, rather then pulled down. This way, you'll experience more negatieve G's. The feeling of weightlessness is hereby enhanced. Some people will call it a 'fake' freefall, but to me it's just a common freefall. ebl
A long time ago, I saw a diagram of the Tower of Terror (I think it was WDW's) that showed how the ride worked. If I recall, the cars are raised and lowered by cables along with powerful motors, so it really isn't a freefall ride, though the feeling is such. If anyone can explain better, please do so. hollers25
Tower of Terror's drop mechanism is an elevator (although it's maker, Otis, prefers it to be referred to as a ride vehicle. so there are no negative associations with their usual product). It pulls you up and down in the shaft rather than just dropping you (it is not actually a "free fall"). This is how they are able to change the drop sequences, something they could not do in a traditional drop ride. I forget the way the ToT CMs to explain the drop...something like "faster velocity than the force due to gravity" (that doesn't seem right - it's something all technical and fancy-like, though. I don't remember - I wasn't in attractions ).
Yankee cannonball
and now the real quaestion. is it a real drop tower CREDIT?
ebl
^^ I had forgotten that Otis had a part in the Tower of Terror. If I recall, that was mentioned in the article I read. If anyone knows elevators, it's Otis. They do escalators, too. What sort of scary escalator ride could someone come up with...? Eric

BeemerBoy
and now the real quaestion. is it a real drop tower CREDIT? 1. The thread hasn't done enough to help you form your own answer? 2. Does your shift button only work at the end of your post?
RCoasterny
If anyone knows elevators, it's Otis. They do escalators, too. What sort of scary escalator ride could someone come up with...? Eric It has happened. I remember an article about people leaving a football game and a lot of people got on the elevator to go from one level to the ground floor. I think it was a 40 foot descent. There was too many people on the escalator that it became overloaded. Once it became overloaded, I think the speed regulating system failed and became a very fast ride. Of course, there were injuries. You could assume that it was one scary escalator ride!
ebl
For some reason, I just thought of "The Escalator Ride" at Parque Espana in Japan. But that's scary for a different reason! Eric
Gav
and now the real quaestion. is it a real drop tower CREDIT? What sort of a silly statement is that? It's not even a roller coaster so why would it be a credit?
Teacups Make Me Sick
I remember an old cast remember telling me that the TOT worked by magnets. I think he said it was along the same technology of LIM's. I dunno if that is for real, gotta love Disney and its secrets.
Purplepills
^^ He said drop tower credit, not coaster credit. Its up to you if you count it as a credit. Different people have different ideas on what is a coaster credit, so you can make your own mind up whether its a drop credit or not.
Force 310
I didn't know that people counted their credits on drop towers in the first place.
ebl
I still haven't figured out the whole credit thing about any ride. Well, to be fair, I do keep an Excel spreadsheet and add new coasters ridden, but I don't run all over creation trying to rack 'em up. "Oh look! A parking lot carnival---is there a coaster in there?" And I couldn't tell you how many elevators, drop rides, or burros I've ridden. And I couldn't care less, either. Eric
