cfc Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Thanks to write-in votes, Steve Colbert, the guy with the show that parodies right-wing, Fox News types on Comedy Central, actually tied for a seat on Williamsburg’s water and soil conservation district board, along with two William & Mary students. They got three votes each, which tells you a lot about the turnout last Tuesday (all of the candidates in my district were unopposed). They’re going to draw the winner out of a hat, but alas, poor Colbert—he isn’t a ‘Burg resident, so he won’t be part of the big drawing for such a key post. Williamsburg should give him a temporary residence at a local hotel, march him down the Duke of Gloucester Street (the main drag of the colonial section), and let him make a speech in front of the Colonial Capitol with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in attendance--that would totally rule! This should be followed by Q&A at Pierce's Pitt Barbeque.
Moose Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 That seems like as heated of a race as our shellfish commissioner . It is important to keep the bivalves in check or there will be anarchy I tell you, anarchy. Colbert cannot move to VA, he is a proud son of South Carolina.
BeemerBoy Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Haha. Great story. Voter turnout has been just as bad here over the past few elections as well. Of course, then again, half the population is probably here illegally and couldn't even read the ballot to begin with.
cfc Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 ^This was a very "off" year election, at least in the Powahatan district of James City County. Voters were asked to go into the booth with a rubber stamp, for the most part. Let's just say that we didn't contribute to the Democrats taking over the Virginia Senate--we didn't even have the opportunity.
bgeguy Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 This is hilarious. If he did win and actually moved here (won't happen), that would be awesome for him to live in Hampton Roads.
BarryH Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Chuck, why didn't you run for a seat on Williamsburg’s water and soil conservation district board? You could have had at least 5 votes -- you, your mom, your dad, your sister, and some random drunk dude! You could have easily won the election!
cfc Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 ^My mom, dad, and sister live in California, but I could still win the "random drunk dude" vote.
