Photo-TR: Soren´s Culinary Trip Through Brazil

Joakin´s "O Hamburger Definitivo"

Some of you know that I am in Sao Paulo-Brazil since a few weeks to visit my girlfriend and I had the chance to go to a lot of restaurants so far. I was trying to make pictures everytime we visited a restaurant, to show you guys how the food and the restaurants are here in Brazil.

Joakin´s:

So, let´s start with the first restaurant. The place is called Joakin´s and it is kind of a Hamburger restaurant. Joakin´s exist there since 1965 and they told me it is one of the oldest hamburger places in Sao Paulo.

Anyway, my first impression was that the place looked a bit like a Denny´s, but after sitting there for a while I need to say it is more a “high class” Denny´s. They are having awesome shakes there and great burgers. It was also interesting to see that they are having sweet or piquant waffles and pancakes. A nice gimmick is the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. The whole time you can watch them preparing your food. Ohh, I need to say the desserts were also looking great.

I had a good burger with nearly everything on it, they are having on the menu and after that a warm waffle with ice cream and a marshmallow topping.

Overall I need to say it is a great restaurant, with a nice atmosphere and good food. I was feeling really full and happy after the dinner we had there.

One last thing at the end. They are having a free parking service, which was great because it was raining that night. We just stopped infront of Joakin´s, jumped out of the car and one of the guys were parking our car. After leaving the restaurant he was already back with the car and waiting for us. So, I need to say that is a great service.

So, I hope you liked my first review. More will come, soon!

Are you going to stay and work there ?

I am not sure how long I will stay, but it will be a while. Right now I am not working. I am trying to learn portuguese and going to see my private teacher a few times a week.

Um, not that kind of "private teacher"! She is just teaching me portuguese! haha...

Braugarten

I think it is time for another restaurant from my trip. This time I will bring you into German food in Brazil. Yes, it sounds a bit strange to go to a German restaurant in Brazil, but I kinda miss the good German food and I was curious how the food will be there.

In total I was really surprised how good the food was there. With all the theming around me, I had the feeling I would be back in EPCOT´s Germany, which was very strange.

Anyway, I had Kassler with a sweet mustard sauce and Röstie and my girlfriend had a steak with cheese sauce and Röstie! I need to say it was very tasty and we had a great evening. Of course I also had a German beer Since they had no Beck´s beer, I had a Paulaner!

I am sure we will go there again to try some other food and another German beer!

Onto the pictures:

Fogo De Chão

A real brazilian Churrascaria = a perfect place for meat lovers!

A few nights ago we went to Fogo De Chão and I think that was the most expensive restaurant I have ever been to. But it was also the best food I have ever had. It is a restaurant for "meat lovers" and you can be sure, you are really getting what you are paying for. It is an All You Can Eat Buffet" and starts with a huge salad bar. There you find everything you are looking for. A big hit was the giant parmesan cheese, where you could cut as much fresh cheese as you want. Then, at the table they came with a lot of different stuff, like fried bananas, bread and much more.

Now is the best part coming. They are having a coaster on the table with a red and a green side. When you are starting, the red side is up and as soon as you turn it to the green side, the fun will begin. Every few minutes someone will come with a sward full of meat to your table. If you have been to "Ohana" at Disney´s Polynesian Resort, then you know what I am talking about. As long as you don´t turn the coaster back to the red side, they will come with that good stuff. They are serving 10 different kinds of meat and sausages.

At the end I was so stuffed that I couldn´t barely move. Like I said, that was a great restaurant and I am sure we will make it back anytime.

There are also some "Fogo De Chão´s" in the USA, when you want some real brazilian food. Here you can check out if there os one of these restaurants near by you: Fogo De Chão

Onto some pictures:

Why pick the international chain when you can go to a multitude of places just like it for MUCH cheaper. I mean, you're in the right country to find churrascarias. My brother-in-law hits as many as he can when he's down there on business. He said they were around $10-12.

Posted

^ Food is really not that expensive here and you find some nice places for $ 10-12 bucks. But churrascarias like Fogo De Chao are much more expensive then any other place here and it is woth every cent.

^No, I mean there are very good churrascarias for about $10-12. They aren't big name places like Fogo (we have one of those here in L.A., soooo good), but apparently still amazing food.

Maybe he was in a different area of the country.

Either way, my mouth was drooling at your review
