cfc Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 ^ & ^^It would be drag to lose an old-school dark ride like Gold Rusher--there was were some pretty cool gags in that one. At least they had an interesting video about the history of the Old Mill in the Garfield queue. Patch fries do, indeed, rule!
Jim S. Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I just read on yet another board that the Gold Rusher is closed for the season, so something is definitely going on there. As for the history of the Old Mill, all the video did was make me wonder why they didn't keep it in its original form. Kennywood has demolished a lot of coasters over the years (according to RCDB, they had a 6-track steeplechase open for just one year!), but they seem to be all about preserving other rides (Kangaroo, Turtle, etc.)

A few years back it had skeletons that reminded me of the CP Train skeletons.
FeelTheFORCE Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I just read on yet another board that the Gold Rusher is closed for the season, so something is definitely going on there. Did it just close today? I was there yesterday and it was open all day, and even had a line that spewed well out of the que.
Jim S. Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 ^The same guy just said that it was open yesterday, he was basing his statement on something somebody else told him. Sorry for posting crap. ^^I know the Old Mill was changed several times, but I'm sure it was never anything like what it is today. Have you seen it? Putting up a video in the queue telling what it used to be is ironic, not to mention moronic.

I respectufully disagree--running the video is neither "ironic" nor "moronic," but it is a nice nod to the park's history (and to the history of amusement parks in general).
Myself Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 The Log Jammer is safe. Not going anywhere, at least during this off season. However, the Gold Rusher will indeed close on Wednesday. Go get your last rides in! I don't have the slightest idea what will replace it. If anything, I'm hoping for a retheme not involving anything to do with Jim Davis.
andy_e219 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I hope they dont take the ride out. If at least a ride is there I will be happy.
cfc Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 Yep--looks like it was fortunate that I rode Gold Rusher when I did: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07234/811070-42.stm

I withdraw the "moronic" comment. The "ironic" comment still stands. I don't mind that the ride wasn't preserved in its original state; what I mind is that the latest change is completely out of character with what has gone before -- it's no longer a haunted-house-style ride, not even a campy and unscary one, but childish and gaudy and commercialized.
