robbalvey Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 http://www.idlewildmoments.com/paulbunyans.html After sitting in the park's maintenance grounds for seven long years, Paul Bunyan's Loggin' Toboggan officially opened Sunday, May 29th. Missing park opening by just three days, the Loggin' Toboggan still makes a splash onto Idlewild's map and offers yet another way for families to enjoy the park together. While the Loggin' Toboggan just opened for 2005, it actually started at a park several states away. Opening as Waterfull Log Flume at Old Indiana Fun Park, Thorntown, Indiana, in 1988, the log flume is was manufactured by S&S Arrow. Idlewild purchased the log flume at an auction in 1997, along with a kiddie turnpike ride which now operates as Ricky's Racers. In typical Idlewild fashion, the log flume wasn't just constructed. It was built, themed, and crafted naturally into the park's western section of the park, Hootin' Holler.' Hootin' Holler' was created in 1984 as an extension to the park after its purchase by nearby Kennywood Park. The 'town' is home to favorites such as Potato Patch fries, Dizzy Lizzy's, a remake of the classic haunted swing; and The Wild Bunch, a highly popular western show occurring twice daily throughout the season.
FlyingScooter Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 That's nice to hear. I wish conneaut had the money to buy log flume from Americana. A Flume would fit nicely into conneaut's tree covered terrain.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Looks really nice. Good to see one of the old Arrow flumes back in action. I will have to get up there and check it out in the near future.
coasterdude5 Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 It's good to see that park doing well. Wasn't that flume originally from Opryland USA?
Chris Benvenuto Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 well, with Idlewild, when I visited on Memorial Day weekend, the 29th. to be precise they were still testing the ride 3 logs would be sent out empty, then 1 log with 2-4 employees and admistrative employees would test the ride as live water body bottles. what i mean is, employees would ride it. we asked about if it opened and it was having problems, they said " sorry, it hasn't been open at all to the public, sorry, we're deciding still what the opening day is, sorry. We're sorry for the inconvenence. Enjoy the rest of your day!" That's what a employee said as an apology from the Adminstration of Idlewild and Kennywood Entertainment Corportion. hopes this scoop helps explain the ride. all it is, is just 3-4 turns, a 80 foot hill and drop. Not worth my time. sounds like a waste of my time riding,if it's queue becomes full. Chris
YoshiFan Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Sounds like the capacity is going to be horrible, it says there are only 6 logs.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 ^ Shouldn't be a problem. After all ... it's at Idlewild.
MattyboiTN Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 its not the one from opryland because it went up and stayed up untill the drop to me looks like the one from dollywood. the one they just took out.
CoasterFanatic Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 ^ True. Kennywood has had it in storage. They got all kinds of crazy stuff in storage.
