beyond-redline
Hello all, I'v been reading this website all summer and just basically enjoying all the great photo trip reports and awesome POV videos. Now that I'm planning a small trip I thought I'd tap into the infinite knowledge that is on this forum. My wife's family lives near the twin cities and she's been bugging me to visit, so I thought why not tie in a trip to Vallyfair. Only problem is that we could only go on a Saturday. I'v been to some parks at Saturday's before and it was almost unbearable, but since Vallyfair is a smaller park I was wondering how they handle the crowds? Are we talking about 1+ hour lines for all major rides? (eg. Wildthing, Rennegade, etc) This forum rocks! I really wish I could go on some of those trips... Swoosh
Well I hate to tell you this, but the longer you wait, the more crowded the Saturdays will get at Valleyfair. You are getting into the "guilt trip" season at amusement parks. What is the "guilt trip" season, you ask? Well that is the time of the year when parents realize that school is right around the corner and they have not taken Jimmy John and Sally Sue anywhere this summer. So to "hush" their sub-conscious guilt of being terrible parents that have not taken their kiddos anywhere for a summer trip like all of their friends' parents have, they do this "fail-proof vacation" to the local amusement park as a last-minute "cover-up" because well they were busy and "forgot". This "phenomenon" happens every year around the last two weeks of July and will continue to be so up until the later parts of August, including the holiday weekend. Once you get into September, you will see things slow down on Saturdays (because kids are back in school and "no longer need to go to the park -- it's not summer"). It will pick up once again when the Halloween events start though.
307
On a similar note, I'll be at VF on Sunday September uh 16 I think... you say generally the crowds will be lighter in September, but in your experiences, and this goes for anyone, around how long should I budget for a credit run of the park + some re-rides on anything we might fancy re-riding? Kind of a general question, but we're coming in from the Wisconsin Dells that morning and I'm just curious if we should get there for park opening, or stick around the Dells until Avalanche opens, and then haul ass over to VF after some Avalanche rides. Thanks all
Swoosh
I honestly don't think it would take more than 4-5 hours to ride the major rides and do a few rerides. A lot depends on the weather that time of year at VF. It might take less time, but I would say 4-5 hours is a good amount of time to expect to get everything + some in. Timo
What weekend were you planning to visit? I have some friends coming to MPLS this weekend and they want to go to VF on Saturday. I usually avoid Saturdays in late July - August. If I go I will let you know how the crowds were.

Swoosh
^^Hmmm... you must be living life right when you go to the park then because the lines are never that short on Saturdays in Late July and August.
metrock
Well, hopefully the lines are not too bad. I am still trying to figure out what day to visit the park. I fly in on Tuesday morning (Aug 7th) and was thinking about going on Wednesday. But I wont have a rental car until Friday, so I am not sure how I would get to the park. As far as I can see, there isn't any public transportation that goes by the park. There are routs that are close, but I may not want to be on a bus all day anyways. If Saturdays are not that bad, then I might try for Sunday when it should be even lighter. As long as I can cover the entire park and get a few rides on each of the "big" rides, then I'll be happy.
